Iwami was always designed to be a mid range ship, the problem was everyone saw the line "Accurate secondaries" and wet themselves. The secondaries do exactly as advertised, they're accurate and will smash a DD foolishly getting too close, the main guns are also accurate and the torps are great for area denial. With her armor layout and massive citadel she was never, ever going to be a good brawler, but again, people saw the words Accurate secondaries and lost their minds.

The only downside on the Bel 43 is her 10s reload. Other than that, your CL guns can pen BBs (IFHE) & is an excellent cap contester. Short duration smoke actually fits the current meta IMO as longer smokes tends to be wasted. Like I said, the only thing that WG needs to buff to make her a good ship is if they buff the reload, then it'll be a very deadly ship in the right hands If you want to talk about disappointments, that'll be the Tiger 59. Literally WTF

I had some good games in tiger 59 in ranked. Very conservative playstyle but got a build from a player on the forums that played in game with and knows what doing. You can make it work however would need to dig out the build after last commander reset. I did put a 21 pt cpt on as well.

Yeah but I can see why it disappoints if you get it thinking it's a Japanese Pommern meant for brawling when the armor means it isn't. The secondaries are good but it's still not a brawler.

Excellent ship! It is a brawler! End game CA/DD crusher more than BB v BB brawler. I play her as a “patiently looking to get close ship” that spams long range torps! She has been great!

Worst thing to see are some HALFORDS, sitting behind an island, just waiting for another Airplane cooldown, cause normally they would be descent cap contesters... Specially in cv games they're pretty useless imoo

It does hurt my soul that an AA build is largely ineffective on her. Also, that Wee Vee '44 can actually do AA BETTER than California, thanks to its solid AA stats AND the DFAA consumable.

Should have made it a secondary brawler like WV44. Its speed won’t let it dictate a battle but I wish it would at least brawl the heck out of any target that gets into its secondary range.

I don't have a Kitakami, but I do have the rest, and I really can't disagree with this. I will say that my experience with premium ships is that there's usually something disappointing about many of them. Not that they're bad, but that after you get them and play them, the feeling is "meh." Due to either WG uptiering it compared to the tech line equivalent, or that at the end of the day, it's just not any (or much) better than the tech line. So you're left with the feeling that maybe you should have saved the resources.

when i started 6 years ago all premiums (well most apart from a few exceptions (looking at you t7 belfast)) would have a side gimmick with penalties vs tech line stats , increased reload times or a missing consumable . i get that paying extra to play a ship should feel like an improvement but to my eyes the biggest advantage was having ships you could move captains around for free . which for me is fine since i`d rather not be in a pay to win game . so yeah definitely MEH i agree but half the fun is finding out how to make them work imo

@@daniellambert1217 There are some premium ships I've been happy to have, like the Wichita, the Atlanta, Tirpitz, and Warspite. Not for every type of battle, but in various situations, they really shine. Some of the others, like Duke of York, aren't bad, but made me wonder why I blew the coal to get it. If I get them in container drops, well, that's OK.

I have all these ships ... yay me .....California, when all you got is guns, they need to be good (but they aint). Iwami - I run her out in small battle modes sometimes, ranked or brawls, she is meh in randoms. Halford, something different for sure, losing control of your DD is not a good feature, having some super spotting is handy sometimes. Belfast 43 ... better utility than Belfast, but damn the DPM just blows. Kitakami .. it s everything I expected, I have no buyers remorse on this one. Not saying she is good or a beast, but she is what she promised. Really sucks to push a flank with a Kita defending it. Good list Sea Lord, keep it coming.

My most disapointing premium ship, as an IJN torp DD main, is the Yuduchi. It seems to be a torp DD with mediocre to bad torpedoes. It just almost never seems to have a good game. The other annoying thing about it, is there are very few options. There is the Shinonome, which can only be aquired by a long Random match grind. Then there are the Kamikazi sisters which are not available. The Harekazi and Yukikaze which are event ships so not aviliable either, except on occastion. Even the challenging Asashio has been removed from the Armory. That leaves the Hayate, a tier ten ship, and with the conversion from 2M FXP to coal and the recent buff is a good ship, but a tier ten ship. And now there is the Minegumo at tier nine but only available with a event grind or $75 worth of gold. So not only is the Yuduchi disapointing, if you are a newish player who wants a mid tier trainer for your captains, the only choice.

Thks for this analysis. Just one remark regarding the California. I think she’s not as bas as you say. She’s slow for sure but she’s able to do significant damages. And yes, she’s totally outclassed by tier X but many ships are in the same case. It’s a nonsense to mix 3 tiers, specially if your ship is not fully equiped. But that’s the philosophy of this game.

First of all, your California should NOT be engaging Tier X ships, 'cause that's a fail div :P Secondly, even with the small (NECESSARY) buff she got, she's definitely measurably better, but she's not quite even in terms of overall power levels with her near-sister, the Wee Vee '44. And Wee Vee '44 is quite balanced across the board for a Tier VII battleship. That said, while I would love a 45s turret traverse on California or even DFAA consumables or something like that, I sincerely appreciate the fact that Wargaming FINALLY buffed Cali after nearly 4 years since her poorly-received release (and justifiably so).

i don't play a lot at 9+. But for me, the USS Virginia '41 is pretty disappointing. It has eight 16" guns which at tier 6 should be terrifying. But these guns can't hit, and when they do, they can't pen. You're banking on overmatch, and when you're aren't top-tier your gimmick is negated.

With the small buff California got recently (just took nearly 4 years, no sweat 😅), she's definitely measurably better, but she's not QUITE even in terms of overall power levels with her near-sister, the Wee Vee '44 (and Wee Vee '44 is quite balanced across the board for a Tier VII battleship imho), let alone the rest of her Tier VII battleship counterparts. That said, while I would honestly love a 45s turret traverse on California or even DFAA consumables to allow her to build into her strength (AA), I do sincerely appreciate the fact that Wargaming **FINALLY** buffed California after the aforementioned near 4 years since her poorly-received release (and justifiably so).

How to make Halford 300% better. Swap the "planes" with a "Airstrike". Like you call in a Flight of Torpedo/Divebombers that carpet bomb an area. And if thats too much just give it Fighters/spotterplane.

I like my kitakami, i got my highest damage recond it in, sure it was asymetic, but still, i do like the ship, and in a no-cv game it can be _lethal_ I nuked a skikishima with 11 of the fast torps from pretty much full health to zero, that was a fun match. I'm looking forward to seeing how well it performs in the upcoming asym mode too

I am one of the old commanders in the game since 2016, I have the original Belfast. WG should have kept 43 at T7 and the other nerfs may have been about right with adding the torps. I still play the original now and then and with the Dunkirk Brothers, radar Mod and using signal flags to extend hydro and smoke she is still very strong. Played right she can hold her own in T9 games. However, she may be a bigger glass cannon than 43. When Bismarck hit you at the end of the match, i believe the original would have popped like balloon lol. I agree 43 owners may have been expecting more than they got. I see fewer originals in the game than 3 years ago so most new players have no idea what they are encountering with the original. o7 SLM keep up the good videos!! 🚢

Many people say tiger 59 but I run it any t8 ranked and manage a 74% w/r in it. Its to help win dd fights then just farm whatever comes. I use both radar and smoke boots

I dont have kitakami but MAYBE you were playing her wrong because in most highlight video about her that i have seen, they mostly use her deep torp to snipe cruisers and BBs and they usually launch her torps at 2 rack reloaded per side (8-16 torps per launch) but not waiting 5 whole minutes for a full screen of torps. But sure, when she got spotted she really is a glass cannon.

Mount, I have to disagree with Iwami. The turret angles are excellent allowing it to bounce both bow and stern in. It can face tank for days. Going partial secondary (2 captain and 2ndary range module) give it some very decent close in firepower. Its not a top end secondary ship, but its not terribad either.

I agree, California (even in her pre-buff form) could EASILY be down-tiered to Tier VI and I wouldn't say boo about it. Drop the main battery and secondary ranges a tad and voila. Done. Tier VI USN Standard BB. Also, I fully agree that Texas needs a buff, it is objectively worse in virtually every stat bar AA in comparison to her sister ship, New York.

As a player who has come over from Legends its surprising to see California is a Tier7 , as most Legends ships are -1 Tier and California absolutely dominates legends +/- 1 match making also helps

Belfast 43 just needs a little buff to get her good. Boost reload to near her sister Edinburgh, and/or a small heal. I would add Schill to the list. The guns (6x 11" with a 20 second reload) are atrocious. The reload booster is a waste of a gimmick, but even with that, the DPM is so low, I feel like I am a liability to my team when I run her. Again, if they stuck with the planned 15 second reload when they first announced her, I feel she would be more competitive.

I can think of at least one premium ship that is infinitely more disappointing than any of the ships mentioned in the vid; the only ship I got from 2023 christmas event and all those santa crates was the K. Schonberg which is bad at lots and good at nothing. I would also like to mention the Hood; one of the most famous ships from naval history, and it's just meh. Art imitating life I suppose. I would like to mention the Genova now; not even 203mm guns at T5 or the 12 x 102mm secondaries can save this floating explosion with 70mm citadel armor and 13mm fore and aft armor. I could go on. I think there are plenty of mediocre premium ships in the game, just waiting for you to waste resources or, god forbid, real money on. If you manage/d to pull one of these ships for free, I would wager it's nothing but a port queen, and a rather plain one at that.

Of the Premium ships that I have actually purchased, the most disappointing at the moment is the Texas. a great ship for her AA befor the carrier reworked, and this was AA severely decimated afterwards. a other I got for coal, which disappointed was Marco Polo

Texas has slightly better firing angles than New York. I play her as a better NY, which is not so bad at tier V.

@@j_taylor Except that's a bit of a lie. New York is objectively better in ALL stats bar AA compared to Texas. In addition, New York has slightly better 3rd turret firing angles, whereas Texas has slightly better 4th turret firing angles. They aren't a huge deal, however. They're still pretty bad ;P (Bear in mind, I forgot if Texas had the better 4th or 3rd turret angle, so it could be the other way around XD)

I have two of the ships on this list and I kinda disagree with one. The Iwami is not that bad to be honest. Yes the secondaries are one of its main selling points. While they don´t go out as far as the German and American secondaries, they still get the job done even surprise a lot of people since IJN BBs are not known for their secondaries. Plus you have to admit, the main battery gun angles are really, really good. You can be as angled as you want and still fire all of your main battery guns. Now, the Belfast 43, that is a huge disappointment. I made the mistake of getting it the very day it came out for sale because I had always wanted the OG Belfast so much. What ruins this ship is the long reload in combination with the British DD smoke. If they gave it the same reload as the OG Belfast and the Pan-Asian smokes, that would transform it from trash to good without being OP IMO.

@kaollachan under the current characteristics of the ship, a refund would be welcomed, of course, I have never known WG to issue refunds for "terrible ships". They can easily give the Halford some greatly needed buffs to at least make it playable

Learn to play it. It is OP when you start using aircraft for spoting. You get so much spoting damage you don't even need damage.

On console, cali is a menace. At tier 5 (t6 on pc) more armor and more accurate than Tennessee or new mexico. Smaller maps are less of a problem for her speed and we dont have to deal with double up tiers. God help the carriers that get anywhere near that no fly zone that is her aa.

He did but he was also talking about how it's actually good as a mid to long range BB thanks to the main guns. When it was first announced I think some people thought it would be a Japanese Pommern with the secondaries but it just doesn't have the armor or secondary range to be a brawler. Secondaries are still good as a means of keeping DDs away though.

Yes, she’s a pretty good ship for today’s meta, but can still be frustrating with her 8 guns and IJN dispersion. I would recommend the Izumo over her still tho. But as mentioned above, it was looking like we were getting a high tier Japanese brawling BB and we just got another standard IJN BB instead

The thing that disappointed me about Iwami was that she had everything her sister did not. Hizen is probably the worst Japaness premium bb in the game with tier 6/7 Sigma at tier 9 on her 12, 410 mm guns and combine that with Horrible Japanese Vertical dispersion, long range and short range shots are a big Gamble, also the lower shell penetration compaired to Izumo. Hizen has a 32mm deck on an Izumo sized hull. Although it has an improved heal over Izumo and Iwami, you get 3 base charges, and it does not cover the massive damage you take in matches these days. While Iwami lost the spotter Aircraft the Hizen has, which is Hizens' ONE advantage beside the gun count, Iwami was basically sold as a better Hizen that could be earned for free.

Personally i would switch California with Graf Zeppelin Even after the Buffs the AP Bombers still dosnt compare with the AP Bombers from the other Carrier in terms of averrage damage. And the Rocket planes become even worse. They where quiet usable before they get teir attack zone turned 90° doing easly 8000 dmg + multiple fire vs. Cruisers and battleships.

Coincidentally i just purchased iwami today and played twice, it was alright the problem is that damage output is not comparable to izumo, but still it is better purchase than my krasny krim, cant believe i paid $15 for that circuit player

Iwami is pretty good in mid range engagements, when you can use your secondaries safely. It basically means it's bad in randoms, but decent in ranked/brawls.

Scharnhorst. I am very happy with the Gneisenau and thought, well smaller guns but more so this should work. It didn't for me, never had a good game with the damn thing. Main artillery is too small to damage the heavy ships and too inaccurate to hit the light ones. Meanwhile Gneisenau has better AA, more HP, heavier secondaries...yea, wasted some money there.

I am not sure the Kitakami really fits; it was not a premium ship but a resource/money pit. Secondly folks should of known they were going in on a gimmick ship that WG had basically nerfed into the ground.

California is actually really good on Legends (console peasant WoWS). We don't have the potential two tier disparity over here though.

Same as on Blitz, the mobile version. No double up-tier, and the AA isn't quashed nearly as bad as on PC (for all ships, not just Cali). But the lack of double up-tier (and subs!) means more than a few premiums that suck on PC, are still viable on Blitz.

Yep, she's solid in Legends. Not OP though, and that's perfectly fine. Hyuga still overtakes her, and of course lack of overmatch is still a thing. But yeah, California's in a GREAT place in Legends. Love her 🥰

Not mentioned, but the sheer lack of logic with Belfast 43 is it's what Belfast was before its more modern representation at T7. So, it shouldn't be as good, really... But, somehow, WG decided it needed to be T8 and able to get dragged into T10 games where even the OG Belfast would struggle, especially in the current meta.

This has got to be the most difficult list to make. So many disappointing premium ships in game. Remember Krispy Kreme, the first ship you would get from Santa gifts about 3 or 4 years ago? haha. So many silly ships that are trash.

Kitakami - for what people paid for it, they need to buff it. Not a great idea to charge people 2 arms and 3 legs and then give them a lemon, but WoW isn't known for making smart decisions. One word shows that point - 'subs'.

I still like my California. Those six 14 inch (356 mm) Guns are very accurate. It never gets old when the enemy cruiser thinks that he can just turn broadside in front of my ship and just like that he looses all his heath. The secondaries are the same as on the west virginia 44 and I try to brawl with both ships. Sure fighting higher tier Battleships can be quite painfull but overall the ship is still ok. Of course you are missing the overmatch of the West virginia 44 but the ship is still decent. Of course you could just play Arizona or west virginia 41 down at tier 6 but then you would be missing out on the more modern secondaries/AA. So choose what you like or do it like me and have them all

Except that California's secondaries are NOT the same as Wee Vee '44's. Not the same range, reload times nor (and this is the most important bit) the same accuracy. Saying California's secondaries are the same as Wee Vee '44's is basically like saying Alabama's secondaries are the same as Massachusetts. They aren't even close. And to be fair, ANY battleship can be an effective cruiser-killer, that's not exactly a defining strength of any one battleship. Yes, California's guns are reasonably accurate, but they're not THAT accurate. If they were, California would actually fulfill her role as a heavyweight sniper, and to be frank, she kinda struggles at that due to lack of dispersion mods/lack of battlecruiser dispersion. Also yes, as you mentioned, California is missing on overmatch capability and that hurts her AP damage output considerably. It's only because of the recent buff that California is at least slightly more enjoyable to play now (and again Wargaming, I am THANKFUL for that buff, I really am, regardless of how small the buff was). But yeah, if you want the modern secondaries/ship barbie, then California has that in spades 🥰

@@SaiIor_Moon yes you are right. I did not know that the secondaries on the west virginia were that good.. west virginia 44 got the secondary range of a german tier 7 bb. Normally the US BBs got a shorter secondary rage compared to the german and french bbs.

@@damiandorhoff719 Yep! That's actually Wee Vee '44's strength - her secondaries. She does lose out on sigma though, only 1.8 sigma. Also, her shells are SUPER-floaty, forcing her to be short-ranged. So she's more like a Tier VII Oklahoma than a Tier VII Massachusetts if we're talking overall power level. Which is actually a good thing, because Massachusetts is arguably VERY strong, maybe not OP, but definitely borderline.

I absolutely disagree on the Iwami, it’s a fine BB, just ignore the facts that she has secondaries and focus completely on her main guns. Her Main guns have the highest sigma value on any t9 ship if I remember correctly and her Torpedoes are no joke either.

I disagree about Halford and Iwami. Iwami still has great guns with 2.1 sigma even if her secondaries don’t have the best range. Sure, the Halford kinda sucks, but I like it more than the fletcher due to the planes, and it is more fun. Texas is kind of disappointing now sadly.

For me its the Aegir. Many will disargee but i was never happy with this ship - i never seem to get it work when i tried. The guns dont reload fast enough für a heavy cruiser / light battlecruiser type. And they are not powerful enough to do significant damage - unless you have the one foolish cc driver that shows you broadside. An then you are sitting in a ship that moves and turns more like a battleship then a cruiser. The baseline german cruisers are so much better in comparison...

California - BB suffer from the BB meta .. Iwami is like - 20KM Shima torp do not really work even on Shima , why do the developer think it would work on a BB Halford - in theory it would work ( in game and in real world ) , well in practice it just do not work , in game and in real world Belfast 43 - its OK ship at the wrong tier , it should be T7 as the original with the same reload or just slightly nerfed reload Kitakami - T4 CL without the guns at T10 .. and torp that do not work , BTW , this is so with toprs , since 0.5.X just to please the BBabies all torp had been nerfed , over nerfed with their detection so pretty much torp at amny distance is of no use as a consistent way to deal damage , same with Kitakami , you can had all 20 a side launch and the enemy can still not get hit courtesy of so many hydro and the way torp are made only unable

@@snorkman2 the fact you done that proves it's worth. It's a bit like Jinan or Emerald, but with more flexibility. Though I have to say, Brisbane came out more recently and can do a lot of the same things, arguably better. Edit: remember Hector is at T9 and there's no other ship that can do what Hector does at that tier and the damage Hector ideally does with torps is much more impactful than HE spamming cruisers.

California and Arizona don't have the same guns. The Arizona has 14"/45 caliber guns and the California is has 14"/50 caliber guns. The California's guns have significantly better penetration. Not that it matters much since you won't be over matching.

Halford is probably the best DD in game if you know how to play it. Aircrafts are made for spoting not attacking... If you are the only DD on your team you can spot A and C at the same time. One side with aircrafts the other with ship. Only problem is controlling ship with autopilot. If only they could add control of a ship when flying... In a division with DM is a cheatcode.

Vanguard was wg's most expensive premium ship in the shop for some time , Vanguard is the most modern bb in reality, in game it has terrible armour that eats cits from all angles and guns that struggle to do any damage against most tier VIII and above bb's. Vanguard sits very near the bottom of tier VIII bb stats, its baffling why this ship hasn't been buf'f'd

I have been telling players Kitakami was a piece of junk since it was pulled 6 or 7 years ago. It was a POS then, it's a POS now, and it will remain a POS until the game dies. You cannot take a tier 4 cruiser and plop it down in tier 10 matches and expect it to be competitive and survivable no matter how many damned torps you give it.

It's got the same awful accuracy and armour scheme as Colorado and you're not going to get to use those secondaries on bigger maps with T9s. Californias improved engine and better dispersion makes it hit a bit harder and get around/react a bit quicker. You can still wreck most battleships/cruisers broadsides at T8/9 with 14" guns. I wouldn't call it strong by any means, but WV44 isn't either outside of ranked/brawls.

That's 20% more reload for 25% to 33% more gun. Her guns are Tier 8, but Kearsarge's guns are Tier 7 and also slaps. Rhode Island has Tier 7 guns in T10 and she's awesome too, just not for getting citadels. In short: git gud, to git gud results. If bad, then obviously ships that don't hold your hand are gonna perform badly.

Why drop 12,000 DBs on a premium Hizen to "git gud" when other IJN BBs like Musashi and Izumo are better? Iwami plays her role better than Hizen plays hers.

i dont get it about the Iwami ..... 1. u always say she isnt fast despite going 28,2knts at TIX and that is fckign fast compared to most TIX Battleships in the game ??? i just looked up every single Battleship in the game at TIX and what a surprise . . . Iwami is at the top 70% of the speed of TIX Battleships 2. u say 10,5km sec range is not good for TIX standards ........ only the german can get up to 11+km sec range ..... thats it so i dont know what "standards" u talking about 3. i dont rly care what ppl say ..... I help team at the start of a game kill DDs on our side then spot with ship and use planes on other side because our 2 DDs died on the other side. You need to know how to use autopilot but that is it. You get over 200K spoting damage a lot of times... But you do need a team that will fire on what you spot... But if you have a friend in DM you can smoke him and spot for him... That is a real cheatcode...
