I see that on matches on PS4. The amount of time I see a Gneisenau and Scharhorst bee line to each other just to torpedo each other. About 80 percent of the time they both miss and die to either destroyers or another battleship.

Jeez Jingles, you are really hard on BB drivers...some of those circumstances they really could not have done anything else. Remember, it takes them minutes to turn around, turn their turrets, to reload, etc. They dont have the reflexes of a destroyer, so if a DD pops out of cover, and you slam the rudder hard over...it may already be too late. Have pity on us poor BB drivers please!

and the BB captain should be aware of those facts. there are many bad situations that are somewhat unavoidable, but there are just as many that can be avoided, but take serious, near-constant planning up to several minutes in advance. and that planning makes the difference between an average/good player and a great player.

Reflexes are not what save BBs. Prior Planning is. As Jingles says, if you wait until you see the Torps coming, you're too late. If you wait until the Destroyer pops out from behind the island, you're too late. If there is a destroyer behind an island, you DO NOT wait broadside on sailing in a straight line until you spot him.

But if you knew that a torp is coming your way and you avoided, and you knew a destroyer will pop out of an island to torp you, There is only so much you can do. Battleships are not by all means flexible. They can't always get out of a hairy situation like a Cruiser or a Destroyer. Most times they are forced, pushed, and stomped down to a situation where the only option is to get shot and torpedoed and sunk. Thing is, you KNOW everything, but because of the ship you're sailing, you can only DO LITTLE.

Indeed. And that kind of applies to all the other German BBs. You can't stay in the back because you can't hit, you can't go into the front because your team doesn't help you. So you have to improvise... At least that's what I'm doing.

Nothing better then to take a 3xTirpitz division into a game, get flamed, then have all the DD's not cap or spot, wherepon you take your heavy DD tirpitz division, caps all 3 points, defends, and end up top 3 in the game with just about double the XP of anyone else.

i have to say, ive been loving the heck out of the german bb's. I havent found any of them to be a grind at all. I almost have the bismark, maybe 20k more xp, just missed the new years discount though :(. The gneisenau has been such a pleasure to play. Its secondaries are great and the torps really come in handy alot. The main gun dispersion is abysmal but, i still manage to get some kills out of em. I love getting into 10km range with german bbs. Just do what jingles says and keep turning and moving and you should avoid most torpedos. I got the speed up mod for the 50% acceleration boost instead of the turning, and you know what, i think it was the wise choice. it accelerates almost as fast as a cruiser. Gets you out of sticky situations quite a bit. If you like bb's, i would recommend going down the german line. You really wont be dissapointed.

This was literally an example of playing for fun and being successful. Subman at around the 8 minute mark put himself in between 3 ships. 2 BBs from east and west and the hatsuharo from the south. He exhibited great game skill but seriously he wasn't playing for the win he was playing for himself. Of course the Mahan was going to ignore going to A, he'd probably done very little damage at that point and was looking out for his best interests. Going all the way to A wouldn't be in his best interests. Engaging in high risk behavior to get as much XP as he can IS in his best interests.

That is the unfortunate thruth behind most of the games in a loosing team. The players do not do what would be best for the team. Instead a short sighted futile firing from extreme ranges on any single unimportant target, just to get a few hits to get an arp ship or getting a few more credits, instead of helping the team to win.

He's firing torpedos around one side of the island, and then sailing around the other, Jingles. The Tashkent can either sail into a potential torpedo spread, OR meed a most-health-left Scharnhorst when he has so little health the Scharnhorst can kill him by sneezing. Which is EXACTLY the right thing to do for the Scharnhorst.

I literally just found this game today. Stoked as hell to play it, as naval warfare is just epic. I just hope it's not a World of Tanks experience, where i kept getting sniped by tanks miles off and unable to damage anybody while getting one hit by them.

Range and distance is a pretty big part of the game, so definitely expect to get rained on at some point. Luckily, one shots are pretty rare; though an entire salvo in the right area of a cruiser (the citadel) can probably delete a ship from the game instantaneously.

Well Bucky at least has some range on those torps. Still struggling in my USN Wickes. Between BBs in open sea and BBs escorted by cruisers, one doesn't even know how to play at times. You're bound to risk your ship every time you charge

+Sirion Not bad advice, but you're thinking like a WoT player. You don't get any exp for spotting in WoWs, and the central point of a Japanese destroyer is their stealth.

+Sirion problem is in WoWs, it's not so heavily emphasised on spotting. A IJN DD relies in stealth to fire off torpedo salvoes to punish broadsiding enemies. if you've got an enemy who turns regularly, prepare to watch every spread miss helplessly. Closing to gun duel is suicide, which is why IJN DD play has become so hard.

I think that's the smoke screen boundary, which is an option in settings, if I recall correctly.

Yes it is smoke. As the Fubuki moves you can see more white rings emerging in a pattern that follows his movement and helps the dd player stay within the borders of the screen.

the friendly Scharnhorst actually did a very good thing that you wrongly criticised him for It was a very tactically astute move given the relative positions and the cover the DD was using he had no way of knowing wich way round the rock the Tashkent would emerge it was a 50/50 chance so he used his torps to close on of the two possible directions while closed the other himself guaranteeing that the DD would die as he had single-handedly closed all the retreat options for the DD simultaneously as if the DD had decided to retreat by exiting from behind the other side of the rock it would have eaten a face full or torps

Experienced players just don't need to, I guess. I think they also fire them off in different ways - to predict where an enemy will move, rather than following the game's straight-line prediction.
