Shouldn't that be Sampson hold? You got your myths crossed, musclebrains.
@GiantsLiveSTRONGMAN
@GiantsLiveSTRONGMAN 3 жыл бұрын
You are quite right, they certainly could have been named it after Sampson. However, that famous strongman was not into pillar-holding we believe. We have read that he was actually a bit of a charlatan. So there is also good reason to avoid Sampson…. Firstly, let me explain why it is what it is. The naming is with Hercules because WSM (World's Strongest Man) who created this modern grip-event were actually staging WSM near the real "Pillars of Hercules". So it just seemed right that they would also honour Hercules - who actually was a pretty good strongman from all accounts. To add in some geographical info - the 'Pillars of Hercules' are more commonly referred to as Gibraltar and Monte Hacho. The initial WSM contest where we brought these out and used them was a few years back now, but this event and this name has become a strongman classic. Going back to your suggested name - Sampson or perhaps Sampson Hold - well as we have assumed you wrote about the legendary strongman (from the 1890s) Charles "the strongest man on Earth" Sampson who famously made a big deal of the letter 'p' in basis name to distinguish him from Samson - well, he was just not that impressive. Not worth naming na event after. He was nowhere near as good as the other Samson either. hmmmm… Has a silly spelling error in a smart ass comment got our muscle-brains all confused? Is it in fact 'Samson' with no P and of the the Temple fame actually who you meant Brian? If so, I believe historians are mainly of the belief that, Samson (with no P), actually pushed over his pillars, which means the story isn't that relevant to pillar holding, if true. Though it's close, and it sounds like he would, or could be a great name for a strongman event. Especially for an event like the Fingal's Fingers. The tricky thing is that a Celtic chap called Fingal has really cornered the pushing-pillar strongman event naming market. But thanks all the same for your comments. Hopefully, our most-muscular brains have helped you with a. little insight into naming aspects behind WSM events. Thanks

@@graefus Thanks Tria. TBH - We don't believe anyone should come here or anywhere and be rude for no good reason. I assume he was here to insult all the strength community in one hit? But, to our amusement, careless Brian tried to slap us from a faulty knowledge base. I must also say we do loads of spelling mistakes, actually, we do them all the time! And our grammar can be pretty ropey too. But what we don't do is go around suggesting other people are stupid for creating something and then offering it up for others enjoyment. But our pal Brian is clearly fuelled up on his own arrogance, and thanks to his hubris (a good term plucked from the serious consequences store for you when disrespect others due to your own smugness - a vital term which stems from Greek Tragedy) and his hubris here was to make a peach of a spelling error. Please don't come on our site and chuck out a few half-baked factoids to try and sound smart. As for calling us all muscle-heads - well, that is surely the single lamest insult ever concocted. What does that even mean? ,
