@@thehorsefromhorsinabout cru custom vrr range doesnt work on my msi 4k oled 240hz monitor. CRU is not the alternative people should look into, hardware based solution is better. I'm pretty sure the people that are crying about lower vrr range just doesnt understand that LFC is the better solution even on my older ips display. Moving your mouse cursor in a 60fps game feels awful when the refresh rate is at 60 but feels snappier at 120Hz mode due to LFC.

Sadly Displays Unboxed showed that the anti VRR flicker doesn't actually fix the problem as it just reduces the effectiveness of VRR. Kinda defeats the point. Still, love the idea of a true glossy monitor. Just a shame the first one is 1440p and not 4K.

Been using a C2 42" as a monitor for almost 2 years now, I only ecountered vrr flicker in menus and loading screens, never in actual gameplay. Granted, maybe there are games which do suffer from it, but I haven't found one yet. I think capping the framerate and maybe lowering settings a bit or using dlss/fsr to ensure framerate is as stable as possible and doesn't dip too much in the most demanding scenes minimizes the chance of it happening.

@Skylancer727

@AshLordCurry that's just misinformation. Even a 3060 could easily handle 4K in any game. I used to play at 4K on a GTX 1080. Anything over 60fps is well in the playable area and nearly anything can handle 4K at medium settings. You don't have to use ultra everything. And there will be older games that will max it out. 240fps is pretty unrealistic in any game with most being CPU bottlenecked just over 120fps or in some cases even just 90fps. Unless you're playing esports on low settings you just shouldn't expect that high a frame rate and even then in those games 4K may still be fairly close. In CSGO the drop from 1440p to 4K is only from 320fps to 290fps at Ultra on both using a 3090 for reference of CPU bottlenecking. For more realistic GPUs an RX 6800 gets 240fps at both, the 3060 ti gets 290 vs 200, and 5700XT gets 220 vs 180. As you can see, in the games that benefit from frame rate you still get absurdly high in them. Just don't expect it to be the same with path tracing in the newest COD. My one friend asked me to troubleshoot his system with a 4090 and it turned out that setting just forced itself on. Doesn't even work with the highest hardware so don't freak out about not being able to run the highest settings.

Disabling VRR partly is not fixing the problem. The fix needs to be at the source, so the gamma shift at different frame rates needs to be equalized. So far we‘ve only seen improvements with the G1 and now the G4 where LG decided to increase the dithering strength
@eduonkhl
@eduonkhl 3 ай бұрын
This monitor is NOT glossy. It's using a low roughness anti glare instead of an anti reflection coating like LG's tv's do. In fact you can take a look yourself in this very video at the 1:26 mark. You can clearly see the GRAIN around the bright white light and the reflection itself is blurry, there would be no such thing on a true glossy monitor. No grain and the reflection would be razer sharp. Anti reflection coatings are much more expensive than anti glare so Asus decided to cheap out here by looking for a foil with the least amount of roughness and then falsely advertise this as glossy because apparently it's reflective enough to be called that from the marketings point of view. If you buy this with the hope of finally getting a glossy monitor I'm sorry to disappoint but it's more semi gloss than actually glossy.

Offering a glossy option is a step in the right direction from LG Display. I'm just confused why it is introduced with an old RWBG panel; they might be trying to get rid of old stock by pairing it with a new property, but if/when the sales are bad they might draw the wrong conclusions from it. WOLED's advantages lie in its better ambient black depth, higher real-world brightness (i.e. at 5-25% white, on the 1st-gen 1440p ASUS) and a longer/better track record in avoiding burn-in. These are all core OLED selling points. LG Display _needs_ to push these advantages.

Because input lag with "Reflex on" and at 120Hz, is actually not that huge for a single player. But there is no VRR flicker etc. But the real use for VRR is that you do not have to fit a game into a set range. And anything that defeats that purpose, defeats VRR.

depends on the environs, purely for colour and image, gotta be Glossy. But if you work a lot, with sun involved or things in your background, you want matte.

If you’re asking him, he says he prefers glossy in the video. I really hate matte OLEDs because they defeat the entire purpose of the technology to me which is the incredible contrast and depth. If there is enough light in a room to annoy you on a glossy OLED, it is also enough light to make a matte OLED look like shit. They just scatter the light across the screen, dulling the picture and turning blacks to grey. At that point you might as well just get an alternative type of panel that can get much brighter to combat light issues.

Excellent news. Can't believe it took this long. Rant incoming: Like one of the comments on screen said, you can control how light is in your room, so many options. What the **** can you do with a matte screen to get the clarity and color back? Give the user options don't just ship a matte and say yea it's not perfect but it's better for you. These aren't budget products and we're grown adults. Oled displays already demand some level of consideration due to the potential of burn in. People aren't generally buying it without some research and consideration, so why is the choice of display finish being made for us? Let us make that decision on our own.

Noooo... my complaint with your entire TV review circle is that none of you ever addressed VRR Flicker and recommend TVs for gaming. Dead honest I think you guys should I have more integrity and be with us on the idea that LG advertising g-sync on the box should be false advertisement and we should be able to sue them. I couldn't be more pissed about my G2 and the promises I got from Classy and Brian. Hell I even sent classy money for talking to me privately about it out of appreciation...

I HATE glossiness with passion. I must play it in DARK room environment because sun and artificial light make it impossible to see anything. Well Philips Ambilight fixes that little problem to some extent, but even so would love to play in a properly lit room from time to time .😞

It is actually the reverse, matte screenes have HORRIBLE contrast ratios when there is any light in the room! Glossy screens with AR coatings cut down reflections by 90-99%

@@georgejones5019 After seeing the early results from Monitors Unboxed's burn-in test I'm also fairly skeptical for OLED monitors for anything except video and gaming. Tim has some burn-in easily visible in test patterns (and in a KZbin video) after just 3 months, and that is with real-world usage, not a stress test. FWIW I have an OLED TV and use it as a monitor at times, but I have to say I'm fairly careful with it during desktop usage now.
