I’ve been joking about swapping an 8.1 into an h2 ever since I got a silverado with one. I’ve done all sorts of wild stuff with it and it’s never let me down, but the 6.0, that on the other hand, has left a lot to be desired. What all is involved in actually doing the swap? I’ve seen duramax swaps that move the radiator forward and that seems to be the major packaging restraint. I’m very curious about this, especially since you’ve actually done it. What was your experience with it? What should I look out for? Does the computer work directly with the rest of the wiring from the original stuff? I assume most of the stuff should just swap over fairly easily because it’s basically the same truck under all the fancy bodywork. What transmission do you use?
@2lucky019 ай бұрын
@@-sh1t the radiator and air-conditioning components stay put even reuse the factory, AC pump, I used the stock, H2, PCM, and wiring harness slightly modified the crank sensor and cam sensor wiring swapped in a 4L 80 and the transfer case from an 0809 model I use electric fans and the PCM controls them. I did get a two core aluminum radiator for a 03 Silverado that bolts perfectly, but I added a sitting to the extra heater core hose. I had to cut the top off of the passenger side motor mount and move it forward I think 2 1/4 inch not sure I took measurements with the factory transmission in the truck with no engine, DMAX store upper motor mounts. I’m sure that I’m missing some of the finer details.
@-sh1t9 ай бұрын
@@2lucky01 I looked over your a channel a bit and it seems like you did almost exactly what I was imagining with the swap. I mostly want to keep the insides all mostly stock, mainly for reliability sake. The 8.1 I have has a little over 200k and supposedly had a supercharger on it before I bought it, and it shows no signs of wear and tear. I’ve towed, gone off road, all sorts of activities and it’s never let me down. The h2 is immensely capable off road with the stock engine, however my right foot is left itching with the 6.0’s power level. I have considered looking into the newer 6.6 gas motors and possibly doing a 427 based off that, but I have concerns about reliability and ease of swap. The 8.1 is simple and does everything I ask of it. I’m not too worried about mileage because it’s already not ideal, however I’d like to look into some sort of system that allows the stock drivetrain to run in rear wheel drive if I choose. Around town I don’t really need the full time awd, and it’s a lot of extra drag on the drivetrain that could be reduced easily. I am much more interested and seriously considering the idea of finding a junkyard motor and cracking it open to replace wear items for a swap now. If motor mounts are the biggest hurdle for packaging, I will most definitely be looking into a swap if the 6.0 ever pops or I get free time, haha. Thanks for responding, I really appreciate the knowledge man.

Larry has adapted the 6.2 Hydraulic cam sprocket architecture onto the 8.1L big block which will be a first for this particular engine which didn't event have VVT.
