@mikehawk691810 ай бұрын
This machine doesn't measure power. When we talk about punching power, we're essentially talking about kinetic energy, which is just mass and velocity. The machine has a laser inside, and the bag's arm interrupts the laser, and that's how the score is calculated. Meaning, the machine only measure the speed of the bag, nothing else. That's why kicks got a lower score, even though they should be 2x as powerful as a punch, because they simply move the bag slower. An easy way to cheat is to punch the bag up at an 45 degree angle, instead of forward, to give it more upwards velocity from the start.

Respect to Eddie for making the distinction between raw strength and the other skills you need in fight. Absolutely MAD power you have Eddie. Really fun video to watch. As a person with martial arts background, I found the results very interesting and validating. If you do the math and compare the power to weight ratio of Eddie to Rico (highest personal score on the machine divided by the weight of the person) you can see the effects of training quite clearly: Eddie -> 901/170 = 5.3 Rico -> 875/116 = 7.5 That means if you master your speed and technique to the level that Rico has, whatever your untrained strength is, you could see up to a 41% improvement in your power with training. Good to know.

These machines have always been the same. A light sensor that measures how fast it passes through. The faster you send it on an upward arc, the higher it will score. That's why most people punch high and down through the bottom edge of the ball. It doesn't measure power, it measures angular momentum.
@exile083110 ай бұрын
I think Marc Rober did this in his winning arcade games with engineering video. Just use a card with a slot cut out of it to trip the light sensor. So when they were saying it was about speed at the beginning was totally correct.

They’re basically the same thing in this context though. Given that each person makes contact with the target for roughly the same amount of time, the angular velocity you get on the bag is going to be directly proportional to the power you deliver.

Jabs and inside leg kick is what he is known for to have that control. He is not know for the hardest puncher or kicker ever. There are kickbox guys relying on 1 ko punch or kick, but on the contrary they lack stamina. So if that change is not there in the match they probably loose. But Rico is overall good: technically, stamina, defense, he can surive getting punced and kicked, he is smart when to do what as well and sometimes he can pull off the ko. Thats why he is the best at this time.

There is no difference in this context between speed and “impact.” The amount of force you hit the bag with is the only thing that determined the speed that it will move with. There is not real distinction here between speed and “impact.”
@icksTeeveeАй бұрын
@@therainman7777 You'd be surprised how differently you punch if you either wanna hit hard, or fast. "Impact" may not have been the best choice of words, you're right! Force of impact= mass*velocity pretty much yes!
@therainman7777Ай бұрын
@ Not trying to be rude or anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised because it just isn’t true. Momentum is equal to mass times velocity. Since the mass of your arm, fist, torso, etc are all fixed, the only thing you can do to increase the momentum of the punch is to punch faster. Now you may be talking about how quickly you draw your hand back, in which case, yes it’s kind of true that if you “pull” the punch a bit to decrease the amount of time it takes to pull it back to your chin/body, it will transfer less energy. But really, speed is the only thing that determines the momentum and kinetic energy of a lunch. There are no other variables.
@therainman7777Ай бұрын
@ Also please keep in mind that when I say the speed of a punch, I mean the speed your first is moving at at the moment it makes contact with your opponent. Not the windup time or anything else like that. Just the speed your first is actually traveling at.

00:59 A point of view from a mechanical engineer, of who I think punches the hardest, without watching the full video yet: The equation of kinetic energy is: Ec = 1/2 x m x V^2. For examples sake lets assume the following: Eddie punches with a mass of 50kg at a velocity of 3,5m/s. Ec = 306,25Joules Tom punches with a mass of 40kg at a velocity of 4m/s. Ec = 320Joules Rico punches with a mass of 35kg at a velocity of 4,5m/s. Ec = 354,375Joules And the Jake with a mass of 30kg at a velocity of 5m/s. Ec = 375Joules Because the velocity is squared, Jake is the safest bet, since his punches, despite lacking mass behind them, have low-key, explosive energy. Now, lets see how fast each one of the other 3 guys would have to throw their punch is order to match Jake's energy. Eddie would have to throw his 50kg punch at a velocity of 3,87m/s. Tom would have to throw his 40 kg punch at a velocity of 4,33m/s. And Rico would have to throw his 35kg punch at a velocity of 4,63m/s. This was a fun exercise, it shows the balance between velocity and mass to attain a certain amount of energy, especially in ballistics. But i'm yet to see a lightweight boxer win a medium weight adversary. Sincerely your, A mechanical engineer.

@johngault20010 ай бұрын
Yeah, but he's running up to the machine and throwing a punch with a crazy wind up that would never land in a fight. The pro fighter are throwing punch properly without running and winding up with huge telegraph. Would like to see what Eddie can do with out walking up to it and throwing more like a cross

This is the right way to measure punching power accurately. Eddie still may have won just based on force=mass x velocity but he needs that wind up for the velocity, where Tom seems to generate it from nowhere. I'd be more interested to see what measurements their muscle fibres are exerting as a better measurement of punching power.
