Your FD guide to Wednesday’s Mystery Places (2 min read) This week, we go from filthy rich to dirt poor on our tour of Mystery Places with some sparkling gems in between. Worlds richest country Doha, Qatar 🇶🇦 Awarding Qatar the 2022 World Cup probably is the single most important event to happen to this tiny country ever. Unfortunately, it’s not going well but first things first. It took our team a year to get an interview with one of the richtest entrepreneurs. If you already live in the richest country in the world, that’s pretty darn loaded. The guy trades in luxury goods. The emir of Qatar personally grants trading rights to deal in various businesses. This guy got the rights to deal in watches, cars, yachts etc. Goes without saying, he owns some serious bling. His house: the size of three footfall fields and not to be found on any map. He owns 80 cars worth 100 million dollars. Most of them Ferrari’s. ‘Nuff said. What we also know about Qatar: they treat the laborers building the stadiums for the 2022 World Cup like slaves. Amnesty International has reported on their horrendous living and working conditions. Living conditions comparable to the worst prisons, pay barely enough to send home, passports confiscated. What is particularly egregious: it’s happening in the richest country on earth. Our team tries to find their own answers, gets mostly varnished propaganda. The best mystery place this week is an absolute gem 💎 Santo Stefano di Sessanio in Italy 🇮🇹 The village in the province of L’Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Southern Italy was abandoned for 50 years. With much love and some 10 million dollars, new life has returned. It’s been turned into a hotel complex. And it’s bringing the entire village back to life. People have been moving back. And the way it’s being done is exemplary: organic and sustainability everywhere; no plastic used anywhere. Everything is sourced regionally. Traditions from the past reawakened. Coffee is served traditionally. That means no steaming espresso machines. We are given a demonstration how Italian coffee used to be made. This place should definitely go on your list if you want to gently travel back in time; getting a feel what life was like in a remote Italian village, in sun drenched streets, with esprit italiano. Ramstein Germany 🇩🇪 It’s a fairly well know Military Airbase 17,000 soldiers live there and is the hub for or when troops are transported to conflict areas. A US military base is basically a slice of US life uprooted and replanted in other countries. Everything is in $, all the products and food and free time activities are exactly what you’d find anywhere in the US. Only you are on a piece of land in Germany or South Korea or the Middle East. Wherever the troops are stationed..home away from home. Indonesia 🇮🇩 Deep in the Indonesian jungle stands a Chicken Church. All faiths welcome. 🐓 Poor, rich, vegetarian or chicken eaters. The Chicken Church is open to all. The Owner gives a tour. A smaller gem 💎 in the forest of Mystery Places. Moscow, Russia 🇷🇺 What lies underneath is where it’s at. At least in this episode. Life underground. Not subway underground. Sewage etc underground. Sergei takes us down down down into what lies underneath a big city. We begin with an obscenely rich guy to the desolate and forgotten. Mystery Places of our World. Always an adventure. Enjoy! Available worldwide except GAS (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) Asia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Israel

I can easily see it is a DOVE with a crown. IF the man could paint the crown gold or better yet, affix gold leaf on the crown, it would more likely make it more apparent that it is on the head of a dove. Also, if he would put signs that reference it as a DOVE and its location and purpose, it may draw more visitors, possibly some investors to help him out financially. God Bless you, Charis for your kind comment and compassion. LOVE is what makes people better to one another and bring peace and happiness.

the system usually works like this: they have their own recruiters in different countries, the recruiters promises them a good pay, usually $1,000 plus living, free meals, etc. Also they have to pay recruiters a hefty price to get recruited $3,000 to $5,000. When they do come to Qatar or Dubai (same system), the reality hits, they take away their passports, in many instances phones and you are a slave, instead of promised 8hrs a day, $1,000 a months, they work morning to night, $400 a month. They are lucky if they get a bed, usually its on the floor on a cardboard. First they have to give money back to recruiters, and than they can send money to families. Many ashamed of their fate just simply get lost and never heard of back home. They are just a number after all.

Such a waste living in Germany and never going outside your comfort zone. I've had family and friends live at that base but they traveled, made local friends, ate/shopped locally, learned some of the language, had an experience you can't get in the US, loved it and talk about how much they miss it. One friend actually married a German girl. Watching him eat packaged grits and drink red sugar juice...I knew he was going to have some missed opportunities. haha

Probably the documentary didn't show it, I doubt it, but he's not talking about the design, performance, or the brand's history, just lists the cars that he owns. Probably the main reason he likes them is because of status, it is true to some extent to everybody who owns them I know, but I watch my fair share of supercar videos and he strikes me as someone not very interested in them, again probably he has great driving skills and from time to time busies himself with details and maintenance of the cars, but the only thing the documentary teaches us is as a big rich boy he has a lot of money and likes to boast about it.

I got such a kick out of the guy who has been exploring the sewers in Russia since he was 15. Didn’t look like fun to me but it sure was for him! He certainly makes the best out of what he has for fun, bless his heart.

I have a really hard time believing that whole underground story. I doubt he has authorization to give people tours. Seems more likely that him and his cohorts lure unsuspecting tourists into underground robbery tours. lol. Call me jaded, but there is no way in hell I would follow those sketchy mofos into their sewers. I’m not gonna say the documentary crew was lucky to get out of there alive, because they probably had a sizable enough group, and had left team members above ground, so that the bandits would have had to take more risks than they were comfortable with, if they tried anything. They probably saw the cameras, and became aware they where outnumbered by the film crew. So he had his first ‘assistant’ get word ahead to the ambush team, and told them to hold off on the muggings/kidnappings, and go with the pitty story instead. So that tragic couple, wholly innocent victims of misfortune, in case you missed that, cried about being beaten by hooligans in their hell hole of squalor where they lived on recycled oil, until the film crew gave them some money. Please kids, don’t try this at home. These are professionals… If you take the Russian hooligan sewer tour because some cutthroats provide rain gear, it’s quite possible that things may not turn out this nicely…

Having lived in Qatar for 8 years, I can unfortunately say that the workers housing they showed your cameras are the best that there probably is. I left there in 2014, back then they had 15 - 20 people living in one room, in what is called worker camps. Often you'd see sites where shipping containers are stacked on top of each other, like 3 stories, and converted into housing. Very packed. Their treatment of Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalis and many more such nations is very, very unfortunate. As an expat, I had it good.

On the bright side, the chicken (🐓 rooster) is seen as a very positive emblem/animal in certain Asian nations. If he had the 👑 crown removed then it would have a better chance at being seen as a 🕊 dove.

Their story sounded very dodgy. They can go to Belarusian embassy to get their papers/emergency passport etc. They don't tell the real reason why they are there. Also healthcare is totally different in Russia- if they need- the medics are there! Again. They tell only half of the story. I suspect alcoholism in their case
