3:51 I used to grow up like this. For my mom, typically not anymore because our relationship is different. She treats me almoat like an equal, not someone to obey her and command around. For her husband, absolutely not. He lost my respect a long time ago and hasnt made much effort to earn it back. It was something he tried to enforce and force for a long time. It kind of became an abusive power dynamic, so after I started pushing back and standing up against it he didnt push for it. I always stick to Mr. Mrs. Ms. for elders around me and that I have respect for or don't have a nickname I can call them. I don't people by first name unless they say its ok and I feel close enough with them for that or close enough in age. One thing I can say because I grew up in a strict house. Those parents are creating the most sneaky ass kids with their parenting, that’s 100% sure, it’s better to be open, your kids should come to you with anything, there are enough consequences in the world. Not being able to trust your parents it’s the worst, and it fucks up almost all the chances of having a relationship with your child if you don’t allow them to learn from mistakes. EDIT: after watching the whole video, pops was kinda spitting life lessons, their kids might grow vanilla or perhaps totally dissociate from their parents, but those lessons will stick, and definetly shape them into kind adults, so I'mma say, they were doing it right, but perhaps just chill on the passing out judgment, kids need understanding, making sure they understand why something is wrong to do is a better way to parent, rather than assigning punishments for every bad deed they commit, we often punish ourselves for bad deeds, so having your parents punish you on that as well can sometimes send you over the edge.

Personally I don't think it's crazy that a toddler is sweeping a porch. Sweeping is a good first chore to get your child to do. Chores are not a negative thing and you can enjoy doing them. Toddlers like to mimic other people, it's how they learn to do things in their early years. Sweeping is not that hard to do anyways, and it's probably fun for them at that age.

When I was a kid, starting at the age of 4, my parents would whoop me with a belt, or make me do 100 push-ups, or make me hold my arms straight out to my side for an hour. I also got blamed for things my older sister did, and my parents always took her side because she's older. When i got older they would make me move several hundred pounds of cinder blocks from the front yard to the back yard back and forth all day in the scorching summer heat. They made me start doing chores at the age of 5. My dad always had huge outbursts of anger and yell at me like a maniac when i got punished, and the things that i did to get punished werent even that bad. They would go through my stuff all the time , and once i got a phone they basically blocked everything on it except texting them and them only. No games, no social media, not even fucking spotify or pandora. If i wanted to talk to a friend i would have to use the house phone. We also had mandatory 2 hour bible studies every night. Now i'm starting to realize just how strict my parents were. I live with my grandma now, and i turn 18 in 2 months. I have a LOT more freedom over here.

Pops is basically giving these kids the military school approach in teaching them morals and how to do things yourself. He’s strict but these are unruly kids who will end up horrible people if this approach isn’t taken.

My parents were the strictest amongst my peers parents. I turned 18 and went buck wild though as an adult I'm glad I learned all of the lessons I learned from them both very much. I raised my own son much the same way until he was around 12 and eased off a bit. He went buck wild at 18 and appreciates my way of raising him. Parenting makes you want to pull your hair out in frustration at times, but it is the most rewarding experience of my lifetime. Teaching kids good lessons that they can appreciate as adults is what it's all about. When your kids let you know you did a good job raising them is like heaven to your ears.

@@thelastshadowpigz No, It comes from my neighbor who takes in kids from the state. She slaves drives these kids and treats them like trash. kids need to be able to enjoy life being a kid. if a 14 year old can be slaved by his parents for free let them have a real job and get paid vs being used by adults for their own benefit. I just don't believe in child labor.
@thelastshadowpigz3 ай бұрын
@@StephenSJN Ok so you are on about a totally different thing. These parents are nothing like the one you described. The neighbor you have that gets kids from the state most likely also gets paid big money to do so. Foster parents get paid not an insignificant amount for each kid they take in. It's a business for some of them. Why not get free labor on top of it? That is a totally disgusting mindset and if I were to ever personally meet someone like that, their little "business" would be shutdown rather quickly. These parents however, are working alongside the kids. I assure you, as someone who has worked a great deal with youth, most tasks are actually done much faster and to a better quality if you don't have a teen helping or if you aren't teaching one. How long do you think it would have taken the dad to just drill the board in himself? Or the mother could've banged out those dishes way faster herself. This teaches work ethic, "do it yourself instead of paying someone" mentality, and patience, to name a few things. Sure it may be seen as a "punishment" now, but when they are older it will just be a necessary task they must get done. Again, I *hate* child labor and people who stop these kids from getting into a loving home, but in this case, you are barking up the wrong tree.
@Eldoraan3 ай бұрын
This is not how to raise good children. This is how you raise rebellious children who, as soon as they turn 18, will immediately distance themselves from you and probably forever. Also, even if you're a parent, respect still has to be earned to an extent...you are not owed respect from anyone, even your kids.
@ey_is_me7773 ай бұрын
this is incredibly true. my guardian has been incredibly strict and overprotective, and most of the time it just makes more problems. they either 1. don't teach things that kids need to know (doing their own laundry, dishes, how to drive, etc), or 2. force them to do those things to the point where it feels like a punishment, which causes them to either not want to do it or associate it with a negative feeling when they're adults. too many ppl want to take their anger out on the children, or make it out like every day has to be manual labor and hard work.. you can't feel comfortable or have a close bond with a parent that way.
@codyrogers10112 ай бұрын
I get what you're saying but also keep in mind that the parents are feeding the kids and keeping a roof over their heads, that does deserve respect of some kind because it doesnt have to be there for them and the parents go out of their way to give their children basic nessecities that are taken for granted

Man, I grew up on a farm. I showed hogs, rode horses, and helped with planting and harvest. My parents were not all that strict. In fact, my mom says she should have been more strict, and even I have had to do manual labor! I picked up horse and hog shit, bathed hogs, saddled horses, fed the animals, potty trained dogs, power washed a whole ass tractor, ran the dish washer, learned to use an air fryer to prepare some small meals, and went to college knowing how to do my own laundry. Can I just say how proud of myself I am for that? For being better off than these kids? My point is that farm life should be pretty strict, even if these parents didn't always have to take things as far as they did. And these kids are sheltered little pansies. I say that as someone who grew up a little sheltered myself. Dad never taught me how to use the mower, though...

Growing up in the South, we call everyone and their mamas “yes ma’am” and “yes sir”. I grew up saying it and so has everyone around me, it’s just a common courtesy out here in the South! I find it annoying, but i’ve grown to appreciate it because it’s not just adults that we say it too but also peers. I see it as a sign of understanding and hearing what the person said and saying “yes ma’am/sir”, in my eyes, is just a way to communicate that we heard and will do what they say!

I think getting on the girls case about being squeamish with the dishes is a little bit overkill. I personally, being a teenager, also hate touching the food when I'm cleaning dishes. I have sensory issues and it can be really overwhelming, especially when you have to smell it, too. Not everything is solved by making kids to things that stress them out, nor does doing a bunch of chores magically "fix" the kids lol
