Based on my experience hormone is tied to melasma. Once I treated low thyroid, taking iron and reducing mental stress specifically. My majority of hyper pigmentation went away.

Great video Abs! I've started using cream for my hyperpigmentation recently (Eucerin) and I can't believe how much of a difference it's made.
@Dr_Abs

Thanks buddy! Eucerin (if it's the one I'm thinking of) has 4-n-butylresorcinol which is a really strong tyrosinase inhibitor like hydroquinone and I believe in a study a while back it showed comparable strength without the potential toxicity in high doses. Remember that once the pigmentation goes, you need to keep it away for life

Retoric question, but I just have to ask: If You've had an event where you weren't using (enough) sun protection for a short time (20 mins), and the sun was so strong that say your neck got sun damage which resulted in redness and wrinkles: Is there anything that can be done to reverse that deep damage to elasticity?

What are your thoughts on topical tranexamic acid and the oral/pill form of tranexamic acid? I keep hearing people’s success stories using the pill form but am hesitant since its main use is something to do with blood clotting. Thanks!

Thanks, Dr. Abs! Question - I am 51 and have very minimal sun damage and no wrinkles since I have been diligent with sunscreen for at least 30 years. I have one small light colored spot on my cheek. To prevent more from showing up as I get older, do you recommend using the skincare systems you mentioned here or just continue with Tretinoin and sunscreen?
@Dr_Abs
@Dr_Abs 7 ай бұрын
I'd carry on with tret and suncream. Maybe over time add some niacinamide powder into the tret and rub them in together. You can get it for very cheap from TheOrdinary

Hi Dr. I am in SA. I started by having dark circles under my eyes during a very stressful period and I thought it was the lack of sleep over the past 3months it has worsened. I have not formally been diagnosed but I have these symmetrical dark brown patches from the under eye area to the chiks and on the eyelids. Is it possible that the stress was a trigger? Or it was coming anyways. I am planning to buy the Skin functional for treatment or is it advisable to see a dermatologist first? Thank you.

Cyspera isn't working for me. It is so expensive. I have tried so many things it's sad. My question is, if you have facial hair, will Obagi work? Also, if you do sugar waxing, will that hinder it from working? I know a product line that targets hyperpigmentation and permanently removing facial hair. But I'm trying to weigh all options for the next product I try.

Cosmetic surgery such as Lazer procedures could be an effective and viable option although these tend to be relatively expensive, OTC ingredients to help with skin brightening include but are not limited to, Alpha Arbutin, kojic acid, tranexamic acid, retinoids, vitamin C, niacinamide, azelaic acid, licorice root extract, mequinol, resorcinol, N- a Acetylglucosamine, Bearberry Extract, Mulberry Extract, Papaya Extract, Saffron Extract, Cysteamine, Ellagic Acid, Gigawhite, Soybean Extract, Tumeric, Oligopeptides, Ginseng, Peony extract, Methoxxyphenl Decanome, Sepiwhite, Vitamin E, Green Tea Extract, Rosehip Oil and Daisy Flower Extract Ultimately OTC topicals may not be of much assistance in severe cases and dematological assistance may be required but I'd advise you to stick with using the aforementioned active ingredients in your skincare routine to help with brightening and inhibiting melanin production, the specific ingredients I'd recommend the most are Alpha Arbutin, Kojic Acid, Tranexamic Acid, Vitamin C, Retinoids, Azelaic Acid, Niacinamide and licorice root extract.
