Hi Brian and Carrie. Just wanted to let you know that we just finished three weeks in Romania thanks to you! Your videos encouraged us to go there and we loved every moment. We went to Cluj, Sighisoara, Brasov, and Sibiu (day trip to Bucharest). We drank palinca and ate mici and placinta and lots of other great snacks. We can’t wait to return to Romania. So, if you ever think your videos aren’t having an impact on people’s lives, think again. Thanks for all that you do. Have a great summer! Missed you both and am thrilled that Italy (my homeland) is next on the list- I love that you are covering both north and south of Italy- try and make a stop on the Amalfi coast- you may never leave this magical place and leave no "carb" behind with the bread and pasta. Your video is spot on with the new day in travel- yes, it is indeed tough to be spontaneous and carve out solitude with the masses but nothing stops us in our quest for experiencing the wonder that travel affords us. Be safe and I can't wait to see Italy through your eyes- I am heading back to Portugal to Lagos in the Algarve and if you are both there in October, let me know. My husband and I would love to connect over dinner and beer!

We LOVE LOVE Italy. We are countryside people and visit the many hill towns through Tuscany. It will be interesting to see how you visit the area as you typically keep to public transit. Will you venture off the rail system? Based on your Thailand videos we are taking our first trip Dec 23-Jan 24. You mentioned being back in Southeast Asia Jan. 24. Maybe our paths will cross 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi, thanks so much for your videos! I have been nomadic and working online since Covid took full effect and your pros/cons videos have been helpful in choosing destinations. If you are headed to Sicily, I spent most of the winter there this past year and I highly recommend the Aeolian islands (off season) if you like your nature dramatic (volcanoes, mountain, sea) and the Egadi islands off Trapani if you want to get away from it all. Arancini make a fabulous, inexpensive meal throughout Sicily!

@@NapoleonDynamyteAgree 100-percent. If one travels spontaneously from say point A to B and there’s only one bus that will bring you there-you run the risk of not having a reservation (because your were spontaneous) and missing that bus. So some advance planning is always wise. 👋🏻

Hey! Great choice for Central Europe and Italy- I spent 6 weeks in Rome and Sicily and Tuscany in the spring so I can give you some tips if you like-- donb't sleep on BOLOGNA! Much cheaper than other Italian cities- very close to Tuscany and easy to get to Venice, Florence, Rome and a million other places! Also-- for Vienna-- make sure you watch the movie The Third Man on your way over and then take the Third Man tour-- it's great. Where in Sicily are you going? I was just in Catania and Taomorina

@@BrianandCarrieItaly has SO much to offer so concentrating on two regions is a great plan. 👍🏻 Here’s my two cents (having lived in Tuscany with family and friends who live there)… 1) Sicily: Taormina is THE crown jewel. Please don’t miss it. Could work on-your-way up the peninsula towards Florence vs a day trip from Palermo. 2) Train travel: consider overnight train from Sicily to Florence. Cool ferry ride (on train!) across the straight but you may need to change trains in Rome. 3) Tuscany: Lucca is a worthwhile visit and easy day trip from Florence. 4) Liguria: While visits to Cinque Terre and Santa Margherita Ligure (suggested by others and both in Liguria) from Florence are do-able, trips by train is somewhat long making a day trip from Florence very rushed and brief. If you plan visiting these towns, recommend visiting this area on your way leaving Tuscany and forming a base in La Spezia or Genova (less crowded albeit not as picturesque). Buon viaggio! 👋🏻

I calling it BOUNCING but there has to be a better word for it. Still got a 3 month stay in PT starting November with three places booked in the East Algarve. Was planning on coming back and applying for D7 but now am thinking of Bouncing around instead. Bounce out of the EU for a bit and then bounce back in or head for SE Asia. Sicily is amazing! I don’t like the food quite as much as central Italy, but it is very good. If you end up in Palermo, do a food tour first thing. Wish you the Best for the next leg of travel. We loved Italy a lot and made 2 trips of 3 week duration. One was with Sorrento (specifically Sant Agnello as a base 15 min walk to Sorrento and cheaper to stay than Sorrento) and day trips to Amalfi, Positano, Capri Island, Pompei, Mount Vesuvius, Naples etc. This took us 10 days and the remaining we split between Santorini and Athens. Our Flt plan was a RT from DFW to Athens. Land Athens, fly to Santorini-> Santorini -> Paros -> Mykanos-> Fly to Naples (10 days in Sorrento - 1.5 hr bus ride from Naples airport for about 10 Euros),Then from there to Athens spend 3 days and back to DFW. If you plan properly the flights within Europe on Easy jet / Ryan Air can find as low as $45-50 with a carry on bag allowance. That was an awesome trip. The other one to Italy was Fly to Rome and visit Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre (the other version of Amalfi coast), Milan, and Lake Como. Even though we did Portugal, Barcelona, and Valencia on other trips, Italy was by far the best we enjoyed for the spectacular sceneries and would love to find a 2 month rental and see places on a more relaxed pace and get the best of Italy. Like you mentioned, Yes travel has gotten expensive and Airline deals are hard to come by and Air BnB is ever increasing. Looking for some deals for fall (after the European travel slows down) like to do a 3 week to land in Brussels and visit Paris and Amsterdam a week each. As always luv your Vlogs. Our Santorini trip was courtesy Your Vlog (even sat in the same bench you sat watching the sunset in Santorini). Looking forward to your next series. Cheers!

I lived in Naples for 7 years and I'm telling you, if you want good food, Naples is a must stop! Also, I agree with you on the crowds coming back. I remember going to Phuket during the Sandbox scheme. I'm not going to lie, it was so nice be in an empty place but sad to see, as a lot of people were out of work. :-( STILL, to me, Southeast Asia is a great place to move around for months at a time. I love being in Thailand, even if it's gone up a little in price. Safe travels!

Mmmmm, food in Italy! I agree on the QR codes and the menus. I can't see those things and even if I could it's too hard to see the whole menu four or five items at a time on a little screen. Even worse when you don't speak the language. I forget the name of a thing and have to scroll back and forth etc.

More quality content. I think one benefit that I found in my recent travels to Portugal was that booking online and in advance saved lots of time! For the castle in Lisbon buying in advance saved an enormous queue to just buy the entrance. What hasn't changed and what you suggest often is getting to touristy places early. Avoid the crowds and the buses of tourists that will be descending on a place. The monastery in Belem was a prime example. Public transit is your friend. Booking well in advance for flights too saves plenty of money. Your travels to Italy and Tuscany will be amazing. My eldest son just came back and his highlight in Tuscany was a cooking course that he attended. Central Europe you have enjoyed and your itinerary for three weeks will be good to see. Is Prague on the list? Beautiful city. Safe travels. More wine in Italy than beer, but you can make up for that in Central Europe! Cheers!

People that travel all over the world tend not to book in advance, I know my wife and I do not do this, things change so quickly in this day and age, we like to remain very flexible, once you book something, which is almost always non refundable, you are stuck, if you want to change your mind you are out a lot of money, so we book almost everything on the fly, often days in advance, it works well for us, our lifestyle is (and has to be) very flexible

Great vlog. As for you guys having planned Argentina prior, I remember you commenting how loud it was in Vietnam. Well, if you go to Buenos Aires, it's also loud. I rented an apartment in a brand new building, in the Palermo Hollywood neighborhood, and the traffic and other noise was so loud until I got very little sleep and I travel with earplugs. But, otherwise, the neighborhood was great and I loved Buenos Aires. I was in BA in Dec 2008. I had planned to go to Buenos Aires in June 2009 as I go to Thailand and that region in the winter. But, in 2008, the Yellow Shirts took over both airports in Bangkok area and shut them down in protests, resulting in over 230,000 tourists being stranded. So, I had to cancel my trip at the very last minute and start trying to get refunds. For over four decades, since a teen, I have planned around politics, unrest outbreaks, virus and other medical outbreaks, etc in places around the world. I can shift gears in a split second. Thank goodness I travel solo. Thai Air had so many cancelations until the refund money didn't get back to me for over a month. But, at the 11th hour, I needed to plan another vacation, during that same time slot, but without the refund airline money. I ended up planning only 7 nights in Buenos Aires, with the budget that I had left. I had originally planned 2 weeks in Argentina for June 2009. It's good that I had already done extensive research on Buenos Aires a year prior and thus was able to shift gears quickly and even get the same planned accommodations for Dec 2008. I had all the research information written down. Buenos Aires was great, just noisy. The food was really delicious and I don't even eat meat or poultry, but the fish and vegetables were delicious. And the music, tango, and spirit of the Argentinian people was wonderful. I really hope you get there one day. And I also hope that you get to Brazil, the Bahia region. I was there years ago. One of my best friends from here even sold her house and moved there permanently, back around 2014 and is living in a gorgeous house right at the ocean. I look forward to your next adventure. Italy is great and Tuscany is beautiful. I started going to Italy in the 70s, back in my university days. For a couple decades, I spent my whole summers in Europe, but up in Denmark as my main area and where I would rent a place for the summer and then would travel from there. As for Italy, I've been in Naples, Vietri Sur Mare, Amalfi area, Rome, Florence, Venice, Treviso, Milan, and a lot of other areas along the way. I was last in Italy (Milan) in summer 2017 as I drop into more southern European countries during the time that I'm staying up in Scandinavia for long periods in the summer. I go south, for a while, for hot weather and really good food and then head back up to Scandinavia. Greetings from Los Angeles

I laughed so hard when Carrie said she was surprised Brian listed food as number one and not beer! 🤣😂. I was thinking the exact same thing when he said it. I’m sorry I haven’t commented on your last couple of videos. We we’re busy saying goodbye to our family and friends. We arrived at our first stop on our world travel adventures a week ago. We are in Guadalajara, Mexico. I thought it was ironic that you mentioned changing your plans to come to Mexico because of safety concerns. We have felt very safe here, so far. Guadalajara is the second city in Mexico and there a very few tourists here. There is, however, a very large and very present security force here. There are police on every kind of mode of transportation possible! 😮 We will be in 5 more different states during the next six months we’re in Mexico. Y’all are my absolute favorite KZbin people! I was wondering if you might do me a favor? We made our first couple of videos on KZbin and I would love to hear any comments or suggestions you could make so that we can learn more about what kind of things to include, change, etc. Here’s the name of our channel: where_in_the_world_are_we_now. ❤ We’re excited you’re going to Italy! Yes Travel has become expensive with every component of it (a/fare, BnB) going up. I know you guys mentioned that you have set aside funds and make it earn to fund the travel. Lately the US interest rates on the rise, even though the banks offer better rates on CDs, The Federal Govt's T Bills earn very decent rates and you can get as high as 5.4 % on 1 year investment which isn't bad considering the safety of principal and stock market being subject to volatility.
