It's worth pointing out that Tetsuzo Iwamoto's war diary was discovered after his death, and that it contained details of 202 kills. That figure is quite possible for a man with his number of combat hours, which dated back to China.

One of the pilots who participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor, migrated to America after the war and became a Methodist minister, maybe somewhere in Kansas. Can't remember his name, probably something like Fushida. All nations, even the enemy ones, have their revered war heroes.

(It is important to understand each other's people)として布教活動(missionary work)を行いました。彼の息子(his son)はアメリカで建築家になり(became an architect in the United States)、彼の娘(his daughter)はアメリカ人と結婚しました(married to an American)。

As noted, Fuchida led the attack and later preached the Word of God in America.
In his own mind. He personally once claimed 350 kills.

Bit wierd making 1st video with german pilots where you go just with what the germans claimed and 2nd video with japanese pilots and not saying what the japanese claimed but what american said about them. there were multiple japanese pilots over 100 claimed air wins and tetsuzo iwamoto had over 200 claimed air wins.
I haven't watched the video about WW2 German aces so won't comment on it. For this video, I find it kind of odd to use/highlight the LOWER scores attributed (likely by US sources) to these Japanese aces. I recall reading several books (by Western authors) all of which mentioned Saburo Sakai's tally to be 62, while this video gives 28.
@Snuffy0325 күн бұрын
The Japanese pilots were superb fliers. It was sad that their own government did not care more for their well being. Their aircraft were superb but had no built in survivability factors. They were fragile, and easily destroyed, not having self sealing fuel tanks like American craft.

@@sopwithsnoopy8779 Ask some American fighter pilots in WW2...about how formidable the Japanese Aces were.
@sopwithsnoopy877927 күн бұрын
@@user-tb6uj9hz6k I already know, I don't have to ask. But people more expert than me have gone thru Sakai's claims, where and when, and have determined his real kill total was roughly 27, matching up with allied losses at the same time/same area, not 64. 27 is still very respectable. As a life long history buff, and military aviation buff, I've read enough to know that the vast majority of the top aces claimed kills don't always match up with opponents official losses. In a few cases they all match, but not usually.

I suppose American Pilots were a Joke to the Japanese since the Highest Scoring American has 40 kills
@alessiodecarolis Жыл бұрын
@@kyleJohn1997 This was bcz allied pilots had a limited number of missions (25, if I remember), then were send at home as instructors/consultants, so they could pass their experience to others, on the contrary for either germans or japanese pilots, until you were killed/maimed or similar, there wasn't any possibility to return home. Plus most german aces had the majority of their kills on eastern front, where generally, at least in early years, they confronted inferior pilots and aircrafts.
