Also in 2024 for Dupont : olympic gold with the 7 (killed the final alone, 2 tries 1 assist) + rugby 15 winning the TOP 14 (french championship recognized as the most competitive in the world) + winning the "European" champions cup (including SA teams, where are the terrific SA teams btw ? You guys boasted that you would win everything when you joint 2 years ago. We didn't even see you make it to the final 😂) + beating the All Blacks and Argentina during Autumn series. The problem is not Dupont being player of the year in rugby 7. The problem is that World Rugby does not have an award for "player of the year all categories" to accommodate Dupont's performance. 😉

What most haters don't understand is how Dupont did changed the level of that French 7s team. France hadn't won anything since 2005. With Dupont's arrival, they've won their first tour victory in LA in March, they won the SVNS 2023-2024 final in Madrid in June, and they won the gold medal at the Olympics (Dupont's main goal) in August. Vini, Vidi, Vici. If a lot of 7s players have played more than him this year, none had such an impact.

Any objective rugby supporter has to admit that Dupont is one of the greatest of all time, and probably the best scrum half of all time. Every year he just keeps getting better. Sure he didn't win the World Cup, but was injured for most of it, and he has won basically everything else that he possibly could, Six nations, Grand slam, Champions cup and top 14 on several occasions, Olympics... Not to mention, Rugby is a team sport, he won't be able to win the WC by himself if many of his teammates are not performing on par, so we cant use that as an excuse for not being an all time great.

Must say an amazing player , 15s and 7s but wouldn’t say he was the best in the series , understandably why he got it. He bought an aura and confidence into the 7s team which they were lacking, France finished the year strong .Still can’t believe Argentina weren’t World Series champs ,France finishing 5th . Silly grand final thing world rugby put in takes away from the series, Fiji could’ve won the whole thing and they were below average this year .

That being said, as a French dude I don't like that national teams reflect the national championship, instead of the nation like in other sports, but it's how it is. It's up to all national federations to pressure World Rugby to change it, instead of accusing this or this other federation of doing what is simply allowed. And the worse in it is that World Rugby is for the most part an Anglo-saxon structure, which has always favored its owns, british or old members of Commonwealth, rather than the others which includes France.
