Hey Dave, I'm another Dave and once was a Pontiac guy. When building a Pontiac motor ( especially for performance ) be sure that the bearings get PLENTY of oil. Pontiac motors seem to wipe out # 5 main this is the last to get oil. We had to tap into the main oil supply and run a tube straight to #5.

Cutting Edge Engineering Australia has welded cast iron several times. None of them were engine blocks, but he used a puck gun or flame spray welding. Would flame spray welding be suitable for this kind of repair all things considered?
@benlayton501811 ай бұрын
No, spray welding is only used to buildup surface area to remove gouges or scratches there is no penetration or very little.

Of her, reminds me of the 455 in my 68 GTO with milk in the pan. Bought it from a friend who says it was in his garage in the winter with water for coolant. It was north of Seattle when I bought it so it doesn’t get too cold there but hey any thing below freezing with break things. I bought it in 1990, still haven’t had time to tear it apart. Retired USN in 2004, working in the Middle East for another year or so. Maybe I can find time to play after that.

Dave watching your shorts reminds me of a guy that I knew 20 some years ago. Sidney a master engine and drivetrain builder if he liked you and you would listen to him he would teach you how to build a solid engine for racing or off-roading. But damn sure you didn't want to be on his bad side. That I heard from quite a few people. His shop Forman flat out said that he was an a-hole to work for. He always carried himself like you do in videos. He talked me through a few spots rebuilding a automatic transmission over the phone and few other projects.

Hello Mr. Dave! It has been bugging me for a long time and I would really like to hear your take on this. Been reading a Wikipedia article about classic Cadillac cars and noticed that in the 50s they often equipped them with super powerful V8s, like, 350+ HP powerful. But a decade later it all changed, displacement increased but the horsepower was halved. There is no explanation in the article why this had happened and I'd love to find out.
