To get differant color tails do like you do with worms. Make a tube the tail color. Cut the top portion off an put the tail portion back on the rod. Dip the other color up to the tail section then cut the tails.

I honestly think that this is the best video you've ever done......it made me feel like I was the one dipping, figuring out temp, how much glitter and color and on and on.... Without a mentor, you have to just "jump right in and start somewhere". I absorbed more information watching this video because it shows the process of trying, make adjustments, trying again, make adjustments, etc., until you get "acceptable results", at which point you can then perfect the bait to whatever you envisioned!! Absolutely a great way to teach, it's not the obstacles.... it's how to think around the obstacles as your experience grows. A+

a few months late, and from someone with even less experience, heres my thought: i see that you dip and hold them in. im thinking maybe holding them in the hot plastic may be starting to remelt some of what is already on the mandrel. im thinking that possibly faster dipping, ir. not dwelling in the cup may turn out better?????

Gravel, lots and lots of gravel (will help with drainage in low points). Granted unrelated to this but it's becoming far more common when they build new homes as water will pool but it hates to so more often than not the soil around the gravel will absorb it.

When you were doing the first ones, I thought it would be cool too do full laminates, then cut the tails. Then you were like, "Hey, now I'm gonna do that exact thing you were about to make a comment about." Big fan of those ones. I'd say getcha a rubber mallet or a dead blow hammer for hitting that thing. I'm assuming it's aluminum, and using those softer faced hammers will keep it from mushrooming/deforming over time.
@jefburns8322
@jefburns8322 4 жыл бұрын
In my experience 290-300 degrees gives best dips. Get nice thick coats and a great finish. And please use a rubber mallet when cutting your tails, iit won't hurt the cutter and it's saves your hand. Thanks for the great videos that gave me the confidence to use injection molds after hand pouring for more than a decade!

Please go buy a cheap mallet for cutting those brother. I say this because you are a musician man. I have wrecked my wrists over the years beating on wrenches as a mechanic and I play guitar. I can still play but with pain and numbness and it's not carpel tunnel it's a different damage from exactly what you were doing there with your palms. Just want you to be able to play drums for many more years and give us those big drum rolls still when you make new bait colors. :) Thanks for this video. Never knew I could make tubes like this. I don't sale I just tournament fish and need to keep things cheap so I do a lot of remelts. Love your site, it's how I have learned everything.

You might want to try only dipping sections of the body instead of the whole thing at once and build up a taper. When the plastic starts to set you can turn the mandrill upright and let it try and slide back on itself then turn it back down and do that a few times until it sets and it makes a nice rounded tip.
