Waldner attacks Timo's backhand consistently - often a weak area for left handers. If you play intelligently, you don't have to work that hard. Find your opponents weaknesses, and attack to those areas. It's why Waldner had such a long career - good all round technique, and no serious injuries.

@@rjari8578 it seems there are new players like the French brothers Lebrun that are bringing back the 90s touch with more spin, transitions between slow/fast pace, near/far from the table... I never understood why all spin rubbers were always validated but as soon as a new curl or antispin is effective, it s banned

@4:10 then reprimanded @4:15 , am I right? Waldner is very talented and capable but I've never liked his attitude on court. Cocky and too much self centered. His trade mark, as you say, is hiding to serve. What a low a act by a professional. On the other end, Timo is so gentle and polite, even after so many years playing/winning at the top level. Wish there were more players like him in future. (I am Chinese but only believe in facts, never biased).

Tried head phone many times. The ref cautioned about "returning shots ON table but NOT UNDER the table". Followed those 3 scores from @3:51 to @4:37. Waldner's serve was OK (legit at the time). No penalty issued. Can't understand the caution, may be some rule before my TT era. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I am a penholder with a couple of Donic rubbers in my 10+ blades collection. Not bad combo but still experimenting. Happy TT and thanks for sharing.
