For years I was as guilty as anyone of going at 16s with 80 left. In my defense, back in the 90s I read Leighton Rees' autobiography, the only one I ever read until last year, and he wrote that you should always strive to leave 32 whenever possible. and I spent two decades aiming for exactly that. Thanks to you I now know better.

I remember going that way myself. Hell, most everyone went that way back in the day. Just goes to show us all how the game has advanced in the past 20 years :)

Great video. Really happy you continued the series WWD! Seems that the 80's have very straightforward options. 3/5 = great checkout percentage.

Thanks Jeff. I think I got a bit lucky on the bulls for the last 2 shots :)

80 - Tops Tops is the way to go for me as well. It leaves you much room to adjust after failing the 1st dart.

Found it very interesting that one of your biggest pet peeves is going for treble 16 when sitting on 80. But I'd like to make a case for it, first of all I use the treble 16 constantly on my set up shots. I'll go for treble 16 when on, 56, 64, 72, 76. It's one of my most reliable trebles, also I'm very good on double 16, it's my best double. I understand why you don't think it's a good idea when on 80, play the percentages, guarantee a shot at tops over a possibility of winding up at a shot at bull. But I always believe play to your strengths, playing the percentages can be a negative mindset. If you're fantastic on double 16 you should play to your strengths. Bristow when on 56 would go treble 8 for double 16, on 80 he'd go treble 16 for double 16. He did this because he was the best double 16 hitter that's ever lived. What I'm saying is, if you're great on tops and it's your banker by all means play the percentages but if you're fantastic on 16s then play to your strengths, problems only arise when people not great on 16s go that route.

Saying all that doesn't make it right. It's not a pet peeve of mine or even what I "think" is right or wrong. Going 16's with 80 left and the opponent is on a one dart out is simply wrong. Even MvG can't guarantee a T16 all the time. Look at it this way... the best players in the world have more skill than you or I right? Yet they go the easier route of 20's with 80 left. What chances does a lesser skilled played have going the harder route? It just makes no sense. If we could all hit trebles at any given time then it wouldn't matter what way we go. You might like 16's and that's fine. But it certainly doesn't make it right. Not by a long shot. Going 20's is overwhelmingly easier and the comparison wouldn't even be close.

Any plans to continue the series, 85 and up? These were well received!!
80 - T20 D10 81 - T15 D18 82 - Bull D16 or even T18 D14 depending on where my opponent is 83 - T17 D16 84 - T16 D18

80- Treble 16, Double 16 81- Treble 19, Double 12 82- Bullseye, Double 16 83- Treble 19, Double 13 84- Treble 16, Double 18 That's my way of going for those shots.
@WorldwideDarts6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, those aren't good at all. 3 out of the 5 are so bad that I'm not even sure if you're serious or not.
@XavierMarciano6 жыл бұрын
Worldwide Darts 3 of the 5? I'd only consider one unusual, the way I go for 83. I go that way incase I miss the treble and get single 19, I still have 64, a preferred checkout of mine. The way I go for 81 and 82 are standard. My way of going for 84 is also pretty common, a lot of people go that route, even if you hit single 16, get value on it and have a marker, so you've 68 left and a great chance at hitting treble 16 to leave double 10. I'm not sure how you think 3 of those are odd.
@WorldwideDarts6 жыл бұрын
81 and 82 are the only ones I'd recommend. The other ones... you're just making things a lot harder then they need to be. Don't take this the wrong way but it's just silly going the ways you typed. 84 the way you described it doesn't even make sense at all. 16 and then you stay there if you hit a single? What? You'd have 68 left. The ONLY option there is 18, bull. And then purposely leaving D13 when there are far more better options? I don't get it man. You need to rethink the way you play. Or maybe you don't? Those outs might work against the people the play with but I can 100% guarantee they won't work against better players.
@XavierMarciano6 жыл бұрын
Worldwide Darts Well obviously on the 84 you still have the single 18, bull option if you're opponent has an easy out. My point was if they weren't you've made it easier for yourself going that way. The 83 I'll grant you is unusual but the others are fairly alright. There's no such thing as a right or wrong way in darts, if you take it out you've done it right. Did John Lowe when he hit the first ever televised nine darter do it wrong because he didn't go one of the standard ways when he'd 141 left? He went treble 17, treble 18, double 18. He still hit that nine darter. I play darts regularly against quality players. All I know is for the first half of our league season I tried doing it the percentage way and it went dismal, since I reverted back to playing to my strengths I've played fantastic. Haven't lost a game where I've left double 16. Each to their own. But guaranteeing a shot at bull can be a negative way of playing sometimes. Still respect your way and great channel.
@WorldwideDarts6 жыл бұрын
There are right ways and wrong ways. But it's very common for people to say that there isn't without giving it much thought. Don't you find it odd that you'd NEVER see a high level professional player go at t19 with 83 left? Why is that? Because it's wrong. Same thing with 80 left and going 16's. It's fine if the opponent is back in the 200's or you're playing in an area where there's nobody to pressure you and you're going to win anyway but the percentages don't lie. Play in a way to give yourself the most chances at a double. Also be mindful of where the opponent is. But if you're honestly playing the way you indicate then it's absolutely impossible for you to be successful against better players. They will punish those mistakes.

Wonder if you ever go S19-T12-D13. I'm always aiming towards the treble bed of the 12 because either it leaves me a shot at the bull or at D13. I'm always a fan of S6 because of my height. Your thoughts?
@jaygreenfield24387 жыл бұрын
This is for the 81.
@Izboy1127 жыл бұрын
Yes you can go that way that checkout would work also
@Izboy1127 жыл бұрын
You could go S15-D16-D17. I go the double double route now. D8 leaves Bull as well as 16. D16 leaves D17.
@jaygreenfield24387 жыл бұрын
That's a really good idea!!! Never thought about that.
@benyus997 жыл бұрын
What about going Bull on 81,83,84? I don't do that myself but it leaves a dart at a double rather than the bull should you hit a 25.
@WorldwideDarts7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think it's a definite option for a stronger player with a bit of breathing room. I'm not sure if its the best option under pressure though. A miss with the 1st dart and you could be screwed.
@themons5137 жыл бұрын
I think it's worth considering the bull with one dart left in hand at 81-85. Bag yourself a guaranteed two-dart chance at a double when you return. With three darts in hand I find it a negative route.
@Izboy1127 жыл бұрын
Going Bull on 81-85 is not a decent option. Also you can waste a dart at a double. The exception on 82 is that the Bull leaves a D16 which is the best double. S14 leaves 68 and you are forced to go 18 Bull. 25 leaves 57 which is 17 D20.
@Izboy1127 жыл бұрын
On 84 Bull D17 is not the best way. I recommend going Bull 6/10 D14/D12. I have to split now. T20 D12 or T16 D18 are the options.
@fanvisuals97244 жыл бұрын
Yes! If your average is 60 or higher then Bull is the statistically correct target if you have 3 darts in hand.
Great to see part 4 of your checkout series! Thank you for your helpful videos! Quick question: would you consider going at the bull with 1 dart in hand and 84 left, so that you get below 60 for your next shot? I think i saw Adrian Lewis do that in a match, and it seemed odd at first, but made sense afterwards cause he left himself 59.
@WorldwideDarts5 жыл бұрын
Yes! Absolutely the bull is a great last dart. 59 is a way better checkout compared to 64
@idi0tdetectioninprogress4 жыл бұрын
I don’t get the logic of that shot, hit the bull and leave D17???? T20 to come back for D12. That’s what we throw at the most. 64 is an easy enough out with T8 and T16 together. I think the pros sometimes go bull to refocus if two darts have gone a little off.
@robg.76815 жыл бұрын
Why do double 14's get avoided?, like with 82. Also with 88, 85, 79, ect. Love throwing at that one
@WorldwideDarts5 жыл бұрын
14's aren't the best choice because it doesn't break down well. But on the other hand Mensur has done well with it.
@d4ve195 жыл бұрын
D14 is an OK route in all but 79. Going T17 D14 on 79 leaves 62 if you miss the T. This is why pros go T19 D11. The double isn't ideal but missing and hitting S19 means only another single required for tops. Being on 60 with 2 darts left is far preferable to being on 62.
@robg.76815 жыл бұрын
yup, I can see that
