Yep. I have no idea what some of my compost worms are. They mostly came from aged manure piles and the garden in general. They all do their job pretty well. Some are active in the cool times others in the warm. I can identify red wigglers and Indian blues but others, well your guess is as good as mine.

@ausfoodgarden I'm with you on identifying. I bought Red Wigglers for my Can-O-Worms back in 2009. Over the years I've noticed a few worms without the yellow tail. Is it a blue Worm? I don't know And I have loads of Earthworms in my compost and garden. As long as they are happy, healthy and productive, I'm good 👍 🪱👍

I prefer the red wigglers but as long as the food scraps get eaten and I get castings. It really doesn’t matter. I think I had some blues from the northeast worms.

Hello AJ. I just received my red wiggler "mix" from your affiliate link on Uncle Jim's. I think that means there are Indian Blue's mixed in there. They seem to like my bin well enough, only a few climbing up to the top. How long does it take for them to start eating? I put a little bit of Uncle Jim's worm chow on the top, but I haven't seen it disappear yet. Prior to their arrival, I blended a few food scraps and added that to the bedding along with a small amount of compost from my compost barrel. I agree with your comment and those of someone else here - so long as they eat, reproduce and poop, I'm happy. I think the only reason to get exclusively red wigglers or night crawlers is if you want to sell them as bait. Thanks for your channel! I have to be honest. Part of me wants just pure red wigglers, but that may be an excuse for my own failure in my experience. I never liked how pueny they were. But again, I could have fixed that too with medicinal worm chow.. lol. Do the Blue worms die off sooner than Red worms?

Tiger worms and red wigglers are two separate worms. They are not the same. I am actually doing a research project on earthworm identification and I have found through research that they are two different types of worms. I have red wigglers, tigers, red marsh worms, European nightcrawlers, Indian Blues and an unknown species. However, I prefer Indian Blues and tigers because the compost quicker in my experience. Hey, by 'tiger worms' you probably mean Eisenia Andrei? In Europe we don't really get any blue worms in our mixes. Usually mixed reds and ENC. I collected some compost worms from my dad's yard compost heap years ago (in Paris, 🇫🇷 for reference), which I added to some flower pots & terrariums. My dad never added worms to his compost heap, so they are indigenous and spontaneously appearing. These look much darker than the reds I bought online (from Austria 🇦🇹) are generally slightly smaller and don't have a yellow tail, so I assume the ones I bought are indeed true reds (and bigger ENC, obviously, as per the seller's information). I separated 2 of these dark worms in a tiny bin (1 litre ice cream box with holes on top) to check if they reproduce true to their bloodline. Is this a proper way of identification, you reckon? I'm really interested in your research. Feel free to share more info. ;-)

Blues are good for composting but. I find when there not happy with weather ect they will take off on u more then the reds would ,and blues breeding quicker then some reds do in the right climate also 🇳🇿🪱
