WORST 1957 Chevy Hard Top IS BACK! It's Better Than I Remember...

The 1957 Chevy Hardtop is back!
We've done so much work on this car over the past few months, I don't even remember why I stopped wrenching on it. It's a "runner driver" but jus barely. Today we give it a good once over and start putting all the quintessential 1957 parts on the front end.

Actually, it makes more sense not to put a nice, shiny paint job on a car you intend to frequently drive. A nice expensive paint job is like putting a giant bullseye on it for people who drive like idiots or cant open their doors properly , birds that have the runs, and thieves.

Geez, you showed this old dog some new tricks. From using the angle iron to weld the pins, to using the grease to locate the holes in the hood. You took an actually tough job & made it quick & simple. I am impressed. 🥸🤓😎

Don’t forget to add the most important option to the 57 that was always added, The case of beer in front of the radiator. A perfect fit to get past security at the drive in or lake.

Or a tool bag to help distribute some weight on road trips. I had a friend that had a 1967 Corvette and his buddy had a 1968. They would put bricks in the front for better handling back in the day. "Do it in vett if you can" was a license plate holder he had hanging in his garage.😂

Good to see the old girl back! Although you flung them off into the far corners of your shop (to never be seen again) Those little chrome circles did have a good reason to be. Like you I didn't like the chrome showing so I scuffed them up and painted them black, the whole reason being to keep from scratching up my paint job, plus it was easy to touch them up. Another thing you could do is paint them the same color as the car, or close to it, still easy touch them up. Oh well have a great day, I really enjoy your videos!

Nice to see another old car coming back together. As for your excess car problem. How about getting a dealer license and opening up D+D Used car sales. Just row upon row of Classic 1950's Chevy's. Gus it up with a crap-ton of pennant banners and gaudy signs and a couple of inflatable tube men to bring in the hordes of quality used car shoppers. As is, Were is. Bring your own financing cuz we DON'T!

If it runs and it's safe to drive that's good enough in my way of thinking. It don't need to be pretty to "Drive it". Could just cut off the top of 1 & weld the threaded parts together. A Little trick cut a piece of 5/8 or 3/4 rubber hose from the mounting point (radiator support) to the top of the pin hole on the hood pin then slip it on the hood pin.

Dan just drill two holes in one of the 57's hood hinges when it's in the up position and put a removable Muffler clamp U bolt that's wide enough to pin both pivot henge bars so you won't need any hood springs.

I'm a fan of hood pins after the frame twist in a Nova sent the hood thru the windshield on a 1/4 mile run. Love your videos and especially these daily renditions of DD Speedshop. I'd love to help you thin the herd, but its a long way from Canada to Texas and I really don't like dealing with customs at the boarder (they really don't like Texans) been a long time since I was cruising the 401 getting Tim Horton's coffee, afraid my Spanish is better than my French nowadays. Love western Canada spent plenty of time in Quebec and Newfyland

BTW I am a retired OTR driver, 30 years hauling automotive parts from Laredo to Canada and back had to deal with brokers and customs both ways
