Fiero means "pride" in Italian. It does not mean fire. Fieros also never got bad gas mileage. They could easily get 35 mpg if driven correctly. They did have manual steering, but due to them being very light cars and having the engine in the rear, you didn't need power steering. You are correct in that they are very slow.

I owned a b5 s4 for a while. They are great cars, and honestly most of the major components are pretty stout but absolutely everything else isn't They eat bushings, plastics, weird sensors. You absolutely have to do the timing and eventually turbos but once you go ko4 they are pretty good. A lot of them are 200k+ mileage and I've seen some 300k+ on original motors which says something for their build quality. The interiors, engines, and paint hold up pretty well. I currently own and have owned multiple DSM's. Both 2g eclipse gsx's. I love them too death and my current one is never leaving my ownership. I submitted it but for some reason it never built the profile. You have to learn them but they aren't that difficult to work on but they do break often.

@Jez4prez1 Жыл бұрын
hey, don't park it outside either. Put it in garage if possible when not using it. So the paint stays in good condition. Also do regular services and regular oil and filter changes (more oil and filter changes the better). Replace mechanical / engine parts per the proper mileage intervals as stated in the service / repair book. And never rev it high on cold engine. Let it warm up fully before you drive it even remotely hard. Bugeyes are going to become rarer and rarer moving forward. They're old cars now. So look after it so it lasts. What phantom said is correct also. If it's high mileage and burning oil then always top up the oil regularly (but never overfill it either). Check the levels once a week.

BMW E46s love seeing them modded but they have wayyy more problems than make them worth while. Same with the B4 A4 I have one and I’m keeping it stock because lowering it creates problems with alignment, the knuckles ware out faster etc. The cars pretty expensive to maintain if you don’t want to do the work yourself. I do love working the A4 b7 but there are definitely a lot more cons to working on them like the engine mount sits in the way of the starter and the starter’s burried, after 80k you need timing, to do a lot of jobs on the motor contains you needing to pull the motor or whole front end apart, the list goes on. There’s just things in places that could’ve been better thought out. From B7 to modern day a,s,RS Audis

I'm not sure if the Pontiac Fiero is really that bad to work on. Granted all the modded ones I've ever seen that we're really crazy where second generation, but I've seen them with later-model 60-degree V6 in place of the 2.8, running a 3.9 out of a Impala or lacrosse which while they don't have much potential for modding specifically they have a lot more power out of the box and even something that doesn't have much modification capability but has more power is still a good place to start. Some of the others I've seen have late model 3800 V6 mounted in the back and compared to the 60-degree V6 there is a crap ton of modification potential for those. I am not likely to go for a Fiero simply because I prefer sedans and coupes, but if I was I would consider one or the other as a good option because although I love speed and fast cars and will handling cars have a condition where it's very difficult for me to pop the clutch and one person I know nearby that I take some inspiration from that has a Fiero has this sort of set-up specifically having started with a automatic car. However they have even worse issues than I do in terms of left foot for popping clutch. Nowadays one of the best cars out there to modify is any GM G-Body from 81 through 88. You can go from a V6 to a large V8 in those very easily with minimal hassle other than swapping appropriate supporting components such as A-frame mounts. Built my dream car starting with a V6 powered 83 Cutlass and dropped a 455 Rocket under the hood. Even with keeping the 455 relatively stock from how it was built originally, roughly 275 to 290 horsepower, still a massive upgrade considering that the 3.8 V6 had only 110 horsepower... certainly a great many guys have done similar with other engines or even other Oldsmobile engines and got a lot more power than even I have. But not so worried about power because it meets my objectives
@38tech Жыл бұрын
As a Hyundai guy I'm going to say the 3rd gen tiburon. When it popped off in 2003 it was insane and how did Hyundai do a V6 6spd. It was great, but.....176 HP and with any type of boost the ringlands failed. The suspension geometry was def not the greatest and they were heavy for what they were. The aisin 6 spd actually failed at some point and the V6 5 spd or even the 2.0 beta motor was a better choice to modify. Those 2.0 beta motors were closed deck, iron bottom and you could boost the shit out of. 😮

My Volvo V50 1.6D isn’t fun to work on. For those who don’t know the Volvo P12 V50 is built on a Ford platform (Focus) and the 1.6D is a “Peugeot engine”. The hood is small, the engine bay is tight, you need to take the headlights out to change a bulb or power steering fluid (the headlights are easily removable though, but it is hard to fill up the power steering fluid), the French have a different way of doing this so a lot of things are backwards and you have to disassemble the intake to get to the oil filter (same on the 2.4 N/A and D2).

The SVX is one of the nicest cars i have ever driven, yeah this is about modifying but the fact its as cheap as it is with the history it has is criminal, i suppose it filters some because its one of the rare mixes of Japanese Italian and German, sounds like some sort of bad alternate wwii ending but its a really nice car, one of the best examples out of even worse idea Jaguars that is exciting yet comfortable at same time, too rare a thing honestly. The transmissions fail but there are plenty of manual swaps to go off, honestly my biggest gripe is how important the presence of the interior is to the whole experience and the fact not fwd vs awd, but if the interior is the right shade of sandy beige that sells giugiaro intent, or a grey/white version that betrays it, that matters more then anything on them in my humble opinion. Fiero, way more of a MR2 guy, and following that more of a second gen Corvair guy if i had to think of something similar, but the Fiero has no issues with performance credentials if you crack into it, its just not a car anyone will want for so long that investing in one as anything other then a engineering product or toy makes sense. Alex is at least the later the better with them but anything V6 and you are good. If you want to make a 350-400+hp garage built and reliable enough near 1 tonne Mid Engine demon its probably easiest way besides 2GR swaps on MR2s....Or if you are a wizard blow all that out the water with V8 Corvairs that stick velocity stacks in your ears, but those aren't even in modern scene so who cares besides my boomer butt. The Audi cope is always Cope just stop trying to make Audis from later then 1990 that aren't on lease relevant. 3000GT is alright DSM more like understeer into a tree.

True. But those sometimes are the best to modify. Cause no one sees you coming in one of those. Of course the car would need a lot of work. But I think it would be an amazing car if done rite.

It was designed out of passion but developed 100% out of compromise and parts bin. Great attempt on paper but GM hated how much it was going to cost so they slashed the budget to absolutely nothing essentially.

I'm curious as to why you didn't include the Dodge Stealth with the 3000GT, but lumped the Talon and Eclipse together after.

What sucks is all the clout chasers buying a VR4 or four wheel steer prelude or any other high tech JDM car they can’t fix driving up the cost way high for the people who can/would fix them.

The MK3 Focus ST. I own one of these piles and i must say, been the worst financial decision ive ever made lol. Almost every single one will be plagued with Ringland failure in Cylinder 4 because of their weak ass pistons from Ford. Once you go FBO and try boosting with it, you're in for a terrible time. Oh, and also, they eat spark plugs. Every oil change to second oil change, check your sparkies, theyre always usually burnt. 🙃

There is an old saying. If you want a reliable Audi buy a Volvo but if you want a fast Volvo buy an Audi. Although Volvos aren't as reliable as they once were but the saying is still probably true.

Simple formula really, unpopular cars are hard to modify, cause no one knows anything about them, and luxury german cars are tedious, cause to make these complex vehicles profitable they shorted on quality components. Frankly powertrain modification is a rich mans game anyhow. Even if you got the easiest powertrain to make power still costs thousands and hours of work to do “right”, and you still can fkkk it up and blow an engine
