Being a big character makes him the worst... But from "normal" characters in TTT Paul is definitely Top 3 the worsts characters. - no side step - semi big( all comon juggles works well on him) - low life bar - enormously high recovery time, on miss-hit even worse - no more 50/50 with "demoman" falling leaf. - the easiest char to sidestep in any direction -no DMG potential at all. Ps. So he can shake a hand with P.Jack XD

Not all the big characters were crap. Most obviously, True Ogre was one of the strongest characters in the game. Also, Gunjack wasn't bad (not amazingly strong, but a solid mid tier).

Regarding Paul, he didn't have Demolition Man (he gained that in T4), but he did have an at least viable 50/50 from his d+1 between Falling Leaf and Deathfist (in games prior to T6, the first hit of Falling Leaf would always trip the opponent on hit when done as an extension of d+1). The problem with this, aside from both the low and mid options being very risky, is that (in T3 and TTT1 especially) the 50/50 could easily be neutralised by backdashing, and this was a major problem as it was just about the only halfway viable means that Paul had of racking up damage.

Newer players will struggle to comprehend how bad the "big slow" characters were in early Tekkens. (Compared to how well the characters are balanced by today's standards), Also Tekken 1, 2 and 3 were released within two years of each other, and had maybe 8 ~10 characters and 8 ~10 clone characters. There is more work, animation, programming, hours-of-labour, design and balancing in a single row of characters in Tekken 7, than there is in every single 3D fighter released in the '90s combined.

By Tekken 2 some of the clones were branching out and had bit more unique stuff going on but it actually had more than 10 unique movesets. Kuma and Roger are kinda mixed bags as they have unique moves but also have some shared with Jack and King respectively. Tekken 3 on the other hand didn't have clone characters at all. (well Anna but she was still somewhat different from Nina, Tiger is just a bonus "costume" so it doesn't count)

I actually always got some good usage out of P.Jack and was able to do good fairly high level play due to him more or less having almost all the best Jack move(not having f, 1+2, 1+2, and f, 1+2, 2 was a big ouchie though as that is one of Jack's most devastating combos) and Paul/heihachi's hammer fist to power fist, sidestep, 2 sidestep, 1, roughly the same juggling potential as nearly any other Jack(which isn't saying much lmao) and a super grapple for his normal 2+4.
