I unfortunately have played it...for about three hours. I was in Paris (I think) on a cobbled street killing trash mobs when I got to a corner, went left and walked into a huge fucking mob built like three brick shithouses who instakilled me in one shot and as I lay dying my AI sister ran around goofing off stupid verbal vomit and finally came across to res me where she was killed. reloaded, took it carefully, reached the same corner, got ready with some stupid shout/buff mechanic the game uses. Got my biggest gun ready, turned the corner...and there were three of the big bastards waiting for me. I then read that each map is random and respawns happen a lot and I never touched the pile of shit again.

I picked up “Castle Wolfenstein [Shareware]” for free at the tender age of 30, when the game was released. I'd already been gaming for many years, when Adventure games were text-based and even flights sims were text driven, but this game had me playing for hours on end. I played this game until I saw brick corridors every time I closed my eyes. I like to remember way back when, and would hate to my fond memories with this version.

I got my first PC in 1997 and didn't get another one until 2003 because we weren't well off. That first PC didn't even have a 3D graphics card for the longest time. Anyway, along comes 2002 and I'm over at a friend's house. He fires up Alien vs. Predator 2. I'm looking at the cut-scene and suddenly it hits me: the cut-scene is rendered in the friggin engine!!! My mind was blown away. Then We started playing as the predator and went through the first alien world. The friend had a surround system setup so we could hear predator's heart pounding throughout the whole room. It was surreal.

I too remember when `Escape From Castle Wolfenstein' (EFCW) came out and was the very beginning of..... everything in gaming. I also had bought a 386dx40, and yes it had the turbo button. I had actually forgotten about that button. I don't remember how much RAM it had but I do remember paying $50 USD for a stick of 1MB, that's with an "M" guys, to upgrade it to be able to play anything that came out about a year or so later. I still remember walking into that local PC shop and seeing them playing this game on a PC they had on the floor just for this demo purpose. I don't think anyone that walked in ever saw anything else, let alone bought anything, because they just spent about 3 hours watching some other guy play this game and even over those little speakers and sound card, probably a Turtle Beach as I don't think CL Sound Blaster was out yet, the sounds of everything echoing off the walls was amazing. What the graphics lacked the sound made up for as simply mind blowing. To see how it all has developed, or not in some cases, has been quite fun yet disappointing. Just like Mack says the ability and tech is there to do so much better but they are all so twisted in their priorities of SJW and other PC BS over what anyone actually wants in a gaming experience. I'll bet even these rainbow panzies directing the creation of these games prefer to play the older stuff that wasn't like this.

Wolfenstein 3D wasn’t actually 3D, pretty interesting story actually. It’s a top down shooter that is rendered in 3D. The same applies to Doom, which is why you didn’t aim up/down and none of the floors overlapped.

A friend knows that I love FPS games and got me Youngblood on Steam so eventually I'll be playing it but not looking forward to it at all. When we have all these awesome shooters out between last year and this year; Dusk, Project:Warlock, Ion Fury (Maiden), Amid Evil, and then on top of that being able to use stuff like GZDoom to play Heretic, Hexen, Doom, and a ton of free mods that are actually better than AAA games, I hope to avoid actually playing Youngblood for a very long time. Great list Mack! Death Stranding looked like the fetch quests we hate from MMOs as the central concept and people saying it's 'deep' are deluding themselves. If I want deep I have Stellaris, Dominions 5, and other games that have actual depth. If it wasn't from Kojima I'd doubt it would even be a published game.

Apparently finding Death Stranding boring equals the game being bad for some reason. I get that we all have different tastes, and far from me trying to imply DS doesn't have it's share of flaws, but saying it belongs on a worst games of the year list is such an abomination of a claim. It makes no sense. It was a triple A title that actually tried something new for a change, that delivered a unique gameplay loop with a rewarding progression system in a somewhat unique setting, not to mention it wasn't broken on launch unlike many of it's contemporaries. This and saying Heat is bad because of cringy characters is pretty silly to me, my brother actually really enjoyed playing Heat. He finished it and said it improved upon several things from the previous title in the series. From what I played, it's not even close to some of the awful entries we've had in the series.
