How can this place even stay open though? Isn’t there a health inspector? You can be a cheap motel, but why not just wash things properly and put good covers on the mattresses?
@komrademoses5 ай бұрын
To address that last point: Bedbugs are excellent at hiding. If you do find them, they usually stay within a few feet of where their hosts sleep, but hide in cracks/creases quite a bit. Excess blood spots are sometimes an indicator of them (you can also find eggs/droppings with bad enough infestations). Only takes one female with babies to cause an infestation, unfortunately. That's why it's important to do an inspection before you set your bag down in the room.
@chapstickaddict4355 ай бұрын
True very true. My husband and I travel sometimes to different places because we do medieval events for the sca society of creative anachronism. So when we stay in hotels/motels, we inspect the room first and then bring our baggage in when we've seen it's clean and doesn't have bed bugs. The most disgusting room we stayed in was kinda similar to this minus the bugs and blood. It did have a musty smell though, the sheets had cigarette holes in it and no one cleaned under the bed. It was 3:00 am and felt like we had no other choices due to it being so late. We were exhausted so we grabbed our blankets and slept on those. I washed them immediately when we got home. We decided from then on we would be very picky in terms of reviews and ratings.
@crawdadlando40535 ай бұрын
Don’t set your bag in the room. They come out generally 1am-3:30am. The only room you’ll never find them in is the bathroom. If you stay in a motel you think might have them, leave your luggage in the bathtub.

Their carpets steam cleaned or bathrooms fumigated? diseases are rarely visible and just because something looks clean , it really isn't but that doesn't make it harmful if you are unfortunate enough to find some parasites have jumped on , they are easily dealt with with the application of a lotion. Most very serious diseases are blood borne and die after a few seconds exposure to air or vector borne for which most people have been inoculated and don't exist unless your somewhere really off the beaten track in remote foreign countries. There is a Super 8 in Rocky Mount North Carolina that blows this place out of the water. Fridge didn't work and had cock roaches in it, towel rack ripped out of the wall, no shower head, mold in the shower, stains and burn holes in the sheets, used needles on the floor and when you open the curtains a beautiful view of a broken down washing machine surrounded by weeds. My family was just looking for a cheap place to stay while we were passing through... We wound up just sleeping in my truck... It was horrific.

I stayed at a super 8 like that in Long Beach once. Door frame was busted it looked like someone kicked it in, same with the bathroom door frame and there was blood smeared on the bathroom wall. I inadvertently rented literal freaking crime scene.

Those are the type of rooms drug dealers and junkies constantly rent out....as I was leaving this comment, they literally found a crack rock. Amazing. I know that because I used to be a dealer and stop by spots like that almost every day. I've been sober and stopped selling drugs since 2015. Haven't touched anything since. Lost too many friends to it. Became fed up to the point where the addiction no longer had a hold on me. It was strange. But it worked

Can confirm about bed bugs. You'll never see a-one until you get a serious infestation. Not quite a 'omg this house needs to be burned down' level of infestation, but a 'you really outta just get rid of this mattress and disinfect this whole room' type infestation
@KunoichiJigglypuff5 ай бұрын
Bed bugs will hide in other spots besides the mattress. Gotta check cabinets, wallpaper if there is any small rips. inside the outlets covers, and headboards. They're so gross and have no reason to be on this planet. They benefit nothing but themselves.

You can definitely see bedbugs without there being a big infestation. They just hide in crevices and you really gotta look for them. Like pulling back the tabs that go around the bed, if that makes sense? Idk what they're called. But if there's tiny blood spots on the bed like there was in that hotel, they're definitely there. You guys just didn't fully look for them.

My husband and I learned our lesson to comb through reviews and ratings. We stayed in a place fairly similar. When we first got there we went into our first room which had stained sheets, cigarette holes and dirt in the back of the bed. It was 3:00 am. We drove from Pennsylvania to Connecticut. We had booked this hotel. I did comb through the reviews thoroughly. Anyways, our second room was a bit better but it still had cigarette holes, under the bed was dirty and you couldn't use the jacuzzi because it would apparently flood the downstairs. Probably wouldn't want to use it anyways. We used our own blankets that night and I thoroughly washed them when we got home. From that day forward we comb through reviews and won't stay anywhere rated below a 4 star review. Another thing we do is after check in, we always inspect the room before we bring our luggage in. We inspect for bugs and anything else dirty or suspicious (Cameras) then we'll bring our luggage in if it passes inspection.
@Mr.Bimgus5 ай бұрын
I always check the 1 star reviews to see what they say. If all the bad ratings are people saying "The bed wasn't soft enough" or "I didn't like the breakfast choices", then odds are the place is fine. But if you see people talking about bed bugs or anything of that nature, that's when you know to skip.

Best thing to do is stick to chain hotels, like Hilton or Marriott.
@chapstickaddict4355 ай бұрын
@@lennyk878 True. I've also found that certain motels are safe. Now that we've been travelling and finding places to stay, we've figured out the motels/hotels we like and try to stick with those. My husband and I do medieval events (Society for Creative Anachronism) and usually we go to the same events yearly. Which means we are beginning to book the same motel on our way either to or from the event that we used last year if we liked their service and cleanliness. When we come back home from Pennsic (An event in Pennsylvania) we like to stop at Niagra falls. So we know now that a certain motel we stay at, we may always book that one yearly. Unfortunately money can be a factor for us. I've personally started liking motels a little better. I find they are cleaner, have better service and obviously are more private (Despite rooms being next to each other). You are right though, chain hotels do tend to be safe as well.
@chapstickaddict4355 ай бұрын
@@lennyk878 We actually have pretty good luck with motels. Still name brand hotels are good but sometimes out of budget. I've found some pretty clean and private motels for a good price. Now that we travel around yearly to Pennsylvania and NJ. We are now renting from motels that we've used before because we know they are clean. Granted we still check before we bring our stuff in just in case because places and owners change. My husband and I are part of a medieval group called the society of creative anachronism so we do usually the same events yearly, so now that we've done that, we've been more familiar with the areas. We like going to Niagra falls when we head back home from Pennsylvania so we've found a motel we like that we plan on going to every year. This year we found a nice motel on our way to Pennsylvania that I may consider us booking again now that I know it's clean and safe. Unfortunately not everyone is as lucky as we are to find places along our travels that we'd trust to use yearly. I do check the reviews again before we book again just in case things have changed. I'll never just trust on a few good reviews and to save money only to find out that the hotel was disgusting. Not again. Definitely picky now.

I actually worked on this "Hotel" years ago to redo some of the plumbing. The owners (at that time at least) were some Indian guys that honestly couldn't care less about the conditions of the place. To my understanding, most of the money they made was through a government program that permanently housed the less financially able... if you will. It felt like most of the people there did nothing but sleep and do drugs. If Law Enforcement walked in there I am convinced they could arrest 90% of the residents for one reason or other. It felt immoral to be there, even if it was to work on "fixing it". I wish I had never stepped into that place.
