Funny how Kid Icarus Uprising tries to fix that concept in its multiplayer. Key word: tries. For reference, when a player is KOed, 2/3 of the points go to whoever dealt the finishing blow, and the remaining 1/3 to whoever dealt the most damage to that player.

That's also because Nintendo always tried to reinvent the wheel for Star Fox, instead of doing what made Star Fox 64 so good, they did things like making Zelda clones (Adventures), Adding awkward touchscreen controls with terrible fan fiction storytelling (Command), or making the story too linear for its own good (Assault). And even now they continue to add stuff that Star Fox doesn't need, like Gyro-controls from Zero or that weird crossover with Starlink. What I mean is, why don't they just take the formula, simple controls, branching paths, etc, from 64 and the original SNES game, and just make a new conflict, a new setting, a new villain, and gorgeous graphics and art style. Even Zelda and Mario do the same thing almost every game and it works for those franchises flawlessly, so just do the same for Star Fox, but without being just a direct copy of Star Fox 64. You know what I mean?

Nintendo themselves don't care about Starfox anymore, they give the job of new games to other developers (Rare, Namco, Platinum Games). By this point Super Smash Bros represents Starfox better than Starfox itself.

Funny how 64 itself was already a rehash of the first game for the SNES, just like Zero was a rehash of 64. Why won't anyone do a remake of Star Fox 2, huh? Maybe add in levels with Corridor Mode, keeping the real-time map and the different stats, which I think is a pretty stellar idea, and not attaching useless gizmos to the Walkers, that would make for a nice change of pace!

I somehow got a glitched clear on Sector Z in the 3DS remake where Missile 3 hit the Great Fox and was destroyed at the same time, triggering the success cutscene with a sparking Great Fox.

This game just has something going on with it's 5th stages. Titania is slow, difficult, locks you into the bad ending and you're only there because Slippy decided to do something incredibly stupid. Heck, Wouldn't it have suited Falco better to thoughtlessly rush into a boss and trying to take the kill? Slippy is just the technician! As for Sector Z, a very unique level that either helps you into the best ending, or manages to make the bad ending even more depressing by damaging the Great Fox. And it's so stressful too, thank god I never even attempted to get many medals in this game, the missilies are already enough to deal with. And then, somehow, magically, Macbeth manages to be one of the best, If not THE BEST stage in the entire game. It takes advantage of the Landmaster's slow movement by putting a huge train in front of you that you can destroy piece by piece as you roll by, and all the wagons even react differently. How did they manage to screw up Titania as the only other Landmaster stage so badly? Not to mention the most satisfying hidden route in the entire game, with all those explosions. And 50 extra points, feels well worth it with how much it takes to get that (pretty easy to miss any of the 8 switches, even with Katt helping you). But the regular boss fight is fun too.

Falco wouldn't make such a reckless error due to his higher skill. It suits Slippy since he sees himself better than he really is, and likes to fly headfirst into battles without much thought; he does that at the very start of the game, even! Still, at least he tries to actually help you fight the boss. Can't really say that for the other two...

What makes the level a real pain is the high amount of hits needed to get the medal. You have to make sure you destroy ALL six missiles yourself and shoot down an insane number of enemy ships as well.

So here we go: an episode long time coming. The most annoying aspect about this Medal is that it punishes you for troop care. That's a cardinal sin. It's even more glaring when Zoness's spotlights do count for you if your teammates are the ones to take them out. Of course, Sector Z in general is a shitty stage in this game. Considering in the original Star Fox it had an actual full-on enemy base, the stealth excuse falls flat on its face, especially considering you're supposed to be escorting your freaking battleship/aircraft carrier hybrid.

Ironically, this medal becomes easier on 3DS as teammate kills count towards your score, including missiles. I’m not sure if the Hit +10 missile bonus applies to them, but they still at least will get you points for killing enemy ships

If we're being real this medal actually isn't that hard, you just need to use the brake function (and maybe try to have upgrades on your lasers). The challenge is that you fly by the missiles fast enough it's hard to DPS them. But if you can stall in the air for an extra couple seconds the challenge becomes trivial.

There are some enemies/objects that give you the bonus Hit points (no pun intended) regardless if you get the finishing blow on them; the force field pylons in the Bolse Satellite are an example. I really do think the missiles in Sector Z should be the same. Sure it'd make the medal a lot easier to get, but I mean, your teammates are helping you defend Great Fox. They're trying to actually be helpful! Yet you feel discouraged and sour from them doing so since they threaten your medal and your money! Speaking of money, since all the kills you earn end up giving Star Fox more money from General Pepper, you have to wonder why Fox only includes his OWN kills in the bill...

Area 6 is my favorite level on Star Fox 64, but for the beginner, it is not so easy, same thing goes to warp zone in Meteo to Katina. All it need is practice to get use to it. I have collected 14 medal out of 15 missions, except for Sector Z which is the most hardest medal to earn for the entire game. In order to get a medal in Area 6 by scoring 300 points or more which is the highest score for a medal, you must save Slippy near the end of the level before challenging Gorgon, the toughest boss in Area 6. Slippy is being chased by only one butterfly shaped enemy, and if you don't take out that enemy, then Slippy will have to leave the mission for the rest of the game, since Slippy cannot escape nor fight back of that enemy, like Falco did in the early part of Area 6. When Slippy quoted, "Venom's right there!", the. Slippy's health gauge shows that his health is half depleted, then Fox must either used the booster to speed up and take care of the butterfly shaped enemy who is chasing Slippy and use a charged up lasers to destroy that enemy and save Slippy from leaving the mission. You can also use one of the bombs to destroy all the enemies that are appeared on the screen to get many points in needed for a medal. Remember bomb does not damage any wingman, such as Slippy when they appeared on the screen, only enemies will be destroyed by using this method.

It's definitely possible to miss one because I've seen a score of 116 before. Minus one missile, and that would be 105. 2 is probably theoretically possible, but is unfeasible without extraordinarily good luck in getting enemies to bunch up for charge shots

I think Z and Katina are the hardest medals in the game. Because on expert, getting the Katina medal is a chore. You have to leave the hatches alone for a while to allow more ships to deploy so you can rack up kills, but that’s more craft that can shear off a wing and less time to blow the hatches before the core emerges.

Star Fox Zero. The level were you first meet Wolf and to get to a "secret" level you have to kill him before he kills Peppy. Good thing is, you don't lose a life for retrying. Bad thing is, it's like this but you don't have the others stealing your kill to worry about. I spent hours on that. Several times, I got him super close, nearly no damage done and then he killed Peppy. Going the long way round would of been quicker XD (Also killed was the best thing I could think of)

You know what the next Star Fox game needs? Something to make you value your teammates' presence that isn't just penalties for getting them downed. Reward the player for their wingmates doing well, and offer some way to manage them so that you can have some influence on their success to justify it. If it's still a rail-shooter, have splits in the path, and let the player decide who takes which direction, and stuff, and have different bonuses or penalties depending on who goes together, or who takes what path. If it's All-Range Mode, extend the field of operation, and take some notes from the various Warriors Spinoffs and let the player direct where each teammate goes and maybe even let the player swap between them on the fly, and count *all* their kills for the player. It's a team effort, and it's time for the gameplay to reflect that. I liked Fox's pilot ability in Starlink; call down one of the wingmates to fly around and help fight for a while. Their effectiveness aside, if you coordinate it by providing them an initial target, their opening barrage is *devastating* to utterly silly degrees if you upgrade the ability. And because Starlink doesn't have any real points system that tracks kills, there's no penalty for having your Wingmate kill something instead of doing it yourself.

The thing with this stage is I find it quite fun if you are just playing it casually and the boss fight makes for a real tense sequence of taking out the Copperheads (That's really what they are called) before they ram into the Great Fox. It only becomes dreadful if you are trying to 100% the game by getting all the medals. It doesn't help that for true completion you have to do this again on a hard mode.

Personally, I had more trouble with the Katina medal. It's more annoying finding the groups of enemies tailing the Husky and Bulldog unit fighters and making sure your charged shot hits the one in front and takes out the rest of the fighters in the blast. You also have to avoid the temptation to destroy all four of the Saucerer's hatches, knowing that they give out bonus points, because that's the key to getting the score necessary to get the medal (150). It you destroyed the hatches, the core would open and start a countdown, ending the mission either because the boss goes Independence Day on the base or by you destroying the core.

Yay, more Star Fox 64, this time with the side characters. Sector Z is tough, but Katina was always the bane of my quest for medals. You have to get 150 and on a time limit, but this time there's no high-point targets around like the missiles, merely a piddly 6 points for destroying the energy core quickly. The rest has to come from shooting down endless swarms of enemy fighters, which are bad for your team's health. Expert mode doesn't ramp up the enemy numbers here either- just the damage they do.

Titania is much harder than McBeth for me. I absolutely hate that level. I pretty much always shoot for medals and the worst thing is thinking you’re about to medal sector Z only to realize one of your team got the finishing blow on the last missile. You should do best levels for this game. So many great ones. Absolutely love Zoness, Area 6, Macbeth, and others.

I never cared about medals but I still hate this stage with a passion bc I never made it the hard route till I had the game for a few years bc I got it when I was like 4. I could never do the search lights on zoness or navigate the gates at Sector X. So my first introduction to Sector Z was Smash Bros. And it was the one level I never got to play for so long. I wondered whyy they chose it and this was before I had regular internet access so I assumed Sector Z was chosen for Smash bc it was like the fan favorite level. It's also one of three maps in multi-player further making me think it was special. God was I disappointed.

That said, how much better/less bad do you think the medal is if you start with Hyper lasers, many bombs, and all allies in perfect shape? The medal is actually really simple to get, if you follow a strategy that by now I think you’ll welcome. Just gun down your allies in the previous mission, or ensure they’re downed somehow. They wont spawn in Sector Z and you can get all of the kills without breaking a sweat. You can shoot Kat away, too, during the ocean level beforehand and she wont show up.

I always hated this stage cuz even if you don't go for the medal, it's just extremely fucking annoying. Like you're trying to hurry up and destroy the missiles, you don't have much time and so naturally you're stressed. And then you constantly hear "get this guy off me" "what's taking you so long fox" etc every five seconds. Even without the stress of destroying the missiles, it's still just plain annoying to hear the same 3 sentences on repeat for minutes on end.

If you are looking for a unforgiving game, Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge for genesis is the one to go, when you start there's a spiderman level, then you can chose willingly, but if you lose all lives you'll have to do the spiderman level again, it's unforgiving because of two character's levels, storm and gambito, they're unfairly hard (even with saveslots), i had the thing on the genesis and could only beat (the intro level and) wolverine's first level (everyone has two).

Eh, titania being harder than macbeth is nothing when IMO fichina was harder than katina was . Fortuna wasn’t even the easiest medal in the game IMO, that would be sector x. Seriously for a level which only requires 150 kills for the medal, they sure are generous with enemies . Its even possible to get upwards of 200 kills on that level.

I may as well bring up Battalion Wars' notion of troop care to contrast with what happens in Sector Z in SF64. See, in both BW1 and BW2, there is a ranking system to worry about, where you can score up to 100% in 3 categories: Power, Technique, and Speed. Yep, similar to in Advance Wars, though Power works differently in that it's based on how much of the enemy you took out--fortunately, if the game expects you aren't meant to take out a given target, it won't count missing the kill on that target against you. Otherwise, Power is basically achieved by full rout, as opposed to the KO 10% of the total enemies in 1 Day requirement in AW1/2/DS, or the average 50% per attack and KO per 2 attacks in DoR for 100 points. If you can't tell, your allies are not a hindrance to the Power score, as it doesn't matter who defeats which enemies, as long as you take them out. They're helpful in that regard if you can make use of the expanded stack to send surplus units to eliminate out of the way enemies without sacrificing Speed. Of course, this doesn't mean your allies' presence can't make things more challenging, because there is still Technique to consider. Battalion Wars has plenty of ways to punish clustered infantry, and add to it that your allies are going to be AI controlled, though at least you can issue them some commands to get them around, providing they're not NPCs. Even when they're not, they're not going to have the human player's creativity backing them directly, so mismanaging them can very easily make them target practice against anything they're vulnerable against. Even so, they do actually fight back, so you're rewarded for efficient play and especially troop care with capable support making headway even if you don't care about rank. Suffice to say that having your soldiers go into hotzones by your own potentially calculated command where you can trust things would go well enough is better than having to worry about killsteals to the point where it becomes better to leave enemy pursuers alone. Although then again, Star Fox 64 was made a decade prior to the Battalion Wars games.

I'm sorry, did you call this level easy when not going for gold? Are you fricken insane!? Those allies of yours are VITAL to destroying every missile in time! You need at least 2 free from danger to get the final 3 done, MAYBE just one if you you're ready to murder your hand! And they usually get a few bogeys on their tails Katt is almost mandatory but sometimes even she gets chased In that sense the gold is almost even more demonic, as you need at least one potential thief helping you at the end Welcome to hell, I say
