Because of Shenanigans(TM) he ends up inside one of these games Using his unrivaled ability of…. Common sense he uses his knowledge of tropes to save the world And like banish the greedy corporations from games and have all games be full of good design and artistic passion and whatever The premise is a great set up to just make a parody about all the over the top flashy fantasy stories where the player character is only one who does anything. Im just imagining Not-Josh, the savior of the realm scream in frustration at having to give an NPC a glass of water from the spring thats right in-front of them

"Remember when the player actually mattered" This is the reason I still play mmos from the 90's. For actual games I keep on the single player story driven, cRPGs and aRPGs. I gave up on mmos long time ago. I remember when playing the 4th coming for the first time... there were no tutorial, but it was easy to identify that clicking on an npc would make him talk to you... thing is: there was no quest screen, no quest log, no quest dialog screen. You would receive "quests" by talking to the npcs (by talking I mean REALLy typing the words and talking it on overhead chat, to the npc), using keywords that most of the time would be highlighted on their spead. But you had to actually pay attention to what they said, as the npc words were all the info you'd get on what to do, where to go, who to speak with... and since there were NO quest log, well... you had to write ir down. Okay, after some time ppl who played enough and wrote down every quest they did, made a website with a collection of all quests, who to speak, where to go... but even following those "tutorials" that felt like the 90's and 90's game guides on magazines, you still had to play, read, find easter eggs and so on.

I wonder what kind of person chooses this kind of game over literally any other free MMO. What are its draws? I can see why someone would play, for example, Life is Feudal or Raid even if they are aware that it is a flawed or outright bad game. Maybe they really want a hardcore survival experience or want to play something familiar and don't care at all about finding the perfect experience. But what does Rebirth have that others don't? Based on your video there is no well-written or at least unique worldbuilding nor stories, no unique or challenging PVE mechanics, not much of a community, not particularly expansive world to explore, nothing that encourages role playing, and the skilling and crafting systems are basic. So what the hells keeps the servers afloat?

I think it's because it's also on mobile. Ever since the release of games on mobile, there are a lot of people who didn't use to ever game, who explore and try out games on it. Considering how, this game, would seem epic to me back when I didn't know much about games, and I thought games on my Commodore were exciting... I can see how people may think it's good when they're not really gamers in general.
