I reread a lot of books in February. I read 16 books and dnf 2 books. Both books I dnf were most anticipated reads. They were The Kindred by Alechia Dow and Twisted Hate by Ana Huang. 8 out of the 16 were rereads. I gave 1 book 2 stars the lowest rating of the year so far. 2 were like 3.5 but I rounded them up too 4 stars, but thinking about lower them to 3 stars. Because I can't remember what they were about. 3 books were six stars, which means favorite of the year. And I can't remember what I gave the rest that weren't rereads. I did give House Of Sky and Breath 6 stars, because I just love Sarah's characters and I just know I am going to get what I love out of her writing. I know she's not for everyone but I just having the time of my life with her characters. Plus I am more character driven than plot driven. And I freaking am in love with Ruhn and Ithan, my Wolfe!!!!! Now to go and watch the video.

I watched this video only to hear your thoughts on MYOF&R, I also read it in February and had high expectations for it. I agree that it’s difficult to read a book where there are no likable characters but I also think it makes it interesting, I got bored at times and ended up going for the audiobook to make it easier but I finished it because Ottessa’s writing is really special, the way she described things and emotions and everything made me want to keep going and finish it. THE ENDING THOUGH, I could see it coming from a mile away (and I’m not great at guessing what’s gonna happen in books). I knew what was going to happen but I wanted to see HOW she was going to integrate it in the story, and yeah it was kinda disappointing, but it would have been better (or worse?) if you actually cared about this people, and I didn’t care about a single one of them.

I have a thing with Colleen Hoover novels in which I really want to like them when I pick them but but I remember why I can't read the first few chapters. I enjoy your rant videos. I also gave 3 stars to House of Earth and Blood. I strongly believe that SJM's books are 300 pages too long. I am 350 pages into House of Sky and Breath and think the first 200 pages could be edited...heavily. Also, how are each of these books exactly 800 pages? It must be a requirement from the publisher. In my humble opinion, there is no reason for this genre of book to be 800 pages long. I agree with you that it's trying to be epic fantasy--but it's not. I think it's to justify the page count. I'm going to say this is urban fantasy romance.

I think you might at least give Sky and Breath 3 stars, maybe 4 stars. But I could be totally wrong and you might give it 2 stars. I actually liked it more than Earth and Blood, even though I loved them both. I would say if I would go by plot, it wouldn't get as high of a rating from me. I rate by enjoyment and characters. If it kind of has a plot but I love the characters, I usually give at least a 4 star rating. But if I don't love the characters, I usually can't rate above a 3, to a 3.5 star rating.

My Year of Rest and Relaxation is on my list of books that shouldn’t exist. Like wtf is the point? And as someone who has been depressed and tried to sleep as much as possible to avoid the pain, IT DOES NOT WORK!!! If sleeping off depression worked, people wouldn’t be depressed, as sleeping more is one of the major side effects!! And the cheap twist at the end is just insulting.

Of the books you’ve read this month, I have only read November 9, and I also did not like it. It wasn’t for me. I didn’t agree with a lot that happened.

My Year of Rest and Relaxation is my least favourite book of all time. This isn't literary fiction. It's a shock value novel masquerading as satire. Oh my god yes. I HATED that ending too. And it's not even that that's what happens to Reva. It's what the unnamed narrator imagines happens to her. I was a ball of rage by the end of this book. And I was volcanic by the Whoopi line.

November 9 was probably the worst book I've read in a while. It was definitely a hate read. 0 stars lol

I just bought November 9 and Verity by Colleen Hoover, so will see. She's a bit or miss for me. I read about 6 books in February as COVID has struck Perth hard this month. My mind set is all over the place. Currently reading Slingshot by Mercedes Someone and wished I didn't.

I am going to try Crescent City again, because I am JMass-trash, but I am BEGGING her to get a better editor!! Her books are getting so bloated and repetitive, and I am convinced you could cut Crescent City by 200 pages and still tell the same story! A Court of Silver Flames is just as bad, if not worse, in that regard. I think I am officially DNFing it, because Cassian is my favorite from ACOTAR, and that book is ruining him.

I am in the same boat exactly!!! Really like her stories but where is the editor!!!! At least 200-300 pages could be cut and the book would be better for it!

I didn’t like Reminders of Him 🥴 she’s a great writer but the plot wasn’t it for me and the ending was so lackluster

I loooved crescent city but was so disappointed with the second book - the romance fell flat for me, the plot was even more direction-less, the ending felt like a cop out. Excited to see your review!
