I ran that same supercharger on my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 because it was the only supercharger kit I could find that would fit my Jeep. It really woke up the stock engine. As people have pointed out it can't compete with other superchargers for racing but adds a ton of usable torque starting immediately off idle. The problem I found was the bearings need to be replaced too often because they don't get oil. Instead they are sealed with grease and can't handle the rpm needed to make power. So you either have to keep the rpm way down for reliability which limits power. Or you change the pulley to spin them faster in order to make power which causes premature bearing failure and more frequent bearing replacement. I finally removed the kit because i got tired of replacing the bearings every year.

People who are unhappy with technical and background conversation should consider going back to WRC Crash Videos. Much more mindless action of the kind I must admit I often watch too, but Mr. Banks is such a goldmine of knowledge, I can’t resist! 😄 😀😀. In another video, Mr. Banks said he was looking forward to 20 additional years on the planet (I predict more than that, considering that flat midsection 😀), and I know he will be around to see (and perhaps contribute to) developments in electric propulsion that will make us shake our heads over the mechanical complexity of IC we have lived with for so long. Also hope he lives long enough for technology to develop a technique to upload his magnificent brain to a solid state memory device! 👍👍👍 You rock, Carl Banks!

I have a '93 Cobra that I bought new and started modifying at two days old. It still has the stock short block with ported Edelbrock heads and port matched intake, custom ground cam, and headers - and a Powerdyne supercharger that I added around 1996. This was a kit put out by Powerdyne specifically for the '93 Cobra that had a one piece billet lower pulley that combined the Cobra underdrive serpentine pulley with the blower drive pulley. It was a BD10 as delivered, but I sent it back in to Powerdyne for a BD11 upgrade when the BD10s started having bearing trouble. My experience with this blower is different than on this Lightning, the Cobra made 429 HP at the wheels on a Superflow dynamometer. Other 5.0 Mustangs at the time running the various Vortech blowers were putting out more HP and torque, but usually not that much more. My best time at the strip was an 11.81 at 119 mph. The car is still a lot of fun, even if the newer muscle cars can show it taillights.

Not to pick on you or the car. But even new diesel trucks can give it a run for its money now 400 horse power and 1,000 ft of torque just the weight holds them back. Btw is your cars color that mysti chrome ford had? love that color.

That looks like a Powerdyne BD-11a supercharger. I had one of these on a 92 mustang and it was an internal belt driven supercharger. They had advantages in that they had a considerably cooler inlet charge than an oil cooled centrifugal. They were really bad about belt slip - I suspect that may be the issue here. I had to tighten the belt down so much the blower bracket was bending. Once you got them dialed in, though, they were fantastic. I made 512rwhp at 9psi on a h/c/i 302ci motor. Another great thing is you could rebuild them for fairly cheap. I did mine twice.

Dunno, is this really a bad supercharger? I mean it picked up 70ft-lbs tq. in the mid-range, which makes sense because the heads don't flow a ton up high and the cam isn't ground for top end power. It's only a 6lb pully and there's some timing pulled out of it. It really makes sense to me, this isn't a high flowing engine. I wouldn't really say this was a bad supercharger, I'd say that this isn't a supercharger / engine / tune combination for somebody who likes to brag about peak numbers on a dyno sheet as if they mean something. This definitely would be felt if you were pulling a load - not that this was really designed to do so. I would say this could be modified in a reasonable manner to breathe a little better up-top and get those numbers a little more respectable. Not going to be a power-house, but still.

Back then the vortec was the best choice for these vehicles I don't know why anybody would install that piece of crap from Ford Motorsports. Using a mathematical formula were you take the weight of the truck some other factors and what it runs in the quarter mile and it factored out that the truck was making approximately 425 horsepower.

Ford Marketing: "How much power we got?" Engineering: "Some" Marketing: "OK, WE'LL SELL THAT!"

LOL! I know, right? Jeez....what a turd... I'd REALLY like to think the "engineers" knew what they were doing when designing this but, whew! NOW I don't know.

For the day it was ok. Compared to today the old Windsor motors are dogs.the 4.2 v6 Ford released in late 96 for the new body f150 has the same power as the outgoing 5.0 v8 in these body trucks

@@thefordmaniac We'd have to wait for the next part to know better. Was the power underated? Might be a case of needing a freshen.

@@thefordmaniac You know buddy you can pickup so really good power by adding GT40X Aluminium heads with an E303 with a Mass air conversion kit.

How did you get the Banks iDash to work without OBD2 on that truck? Ir is it a matter of just adding sensors?
@bankspower Жыл бұрын
Correct, we have a suite of sensors that can be added to any vehicle, even if they do not have OBD-II. We have a page that shows the possibilities here: official.bankspower.com/tech_article/whats-going-on-in-my-engine-and-how-do-i-know/

I think if you took the charger off you find the engine is smoked and needs a rebuild

Thats a Powerdyne blower. They were belt driven instead of gear drive. They never made much boost especially on a 351. Put a Vortech YSI on it. See if it makes any power.
