My yellow lab was obsessed with balls. Anything round and ball looking, like a cantaloupe and it was game on! But her sweet and goofy playfulness always brought laughter. She had an exuberance for life that was unmatched. I miss her dearly! RIP Sadie Belle 1999-2014.💕

At what age? If your Lab is at least 18 months or more, it should have outgrown that naughty phase. If it is older than 18 months, lots of physical activity curbs much of that anxiety. My Lab goes for a run at the park each and every day....rain or shine. If I happen to miss an occasional day, she is a completely different dog. A tired Lab is a happy Lab.

Our first Lab did the rolling in and eating poop thing once or twice. He especially loved horse apples, which can be dangerous for a dog if the horse is on medications. Our current Lab seems to actually grossed out by poop. His ball once landed on a turd while playing, and he refused to pich it up. Just stood there with one paw raised. I had to get it, and rinse it off. 😂

As a non-labrador owner, I'd also like to add that they don't seem to understand dog social cues. I have a greyhound that is pretty patient and polite, but not particularly interested in other dogs. Most dogs can read the room and leave him alone after a quick hello, but labradors always seem to barrel over, completely oblivious to his multiple "leave me alone, please" signals and get way too up in his space. Lovely dogs, but they are basically just oblivious children that don't realise not everyone wants to play all the time.

This video focuses on problems but no solutions. I currently have and had Labs for a number of years. MOST of these issues can be easily be remedied. Yes, they are high energy. That energy must be burned off. EXERCISE: My Lab goes to the park each and every day and I run her for at least an hour or more. Her nails have never been clipped (except for dew claws) because she wears them down naturally from being so physically active. When we get back home, I have a very tired and happy dog....she eats her dinner and goes to bed for the night. The two Vets who see her have told us she is a prime example of an athlete with amazing muscle tone and her age/weight/size ratios are right on mark. TRAINING: A well trained dog (any breed) is almost always happier and healthier, beside being well behaved. ROUTINE: We humans have routines, and so should dogs. They can quickly learn what to expect and when to expect it. At the same time every day, my Lab comes into my office with her leash and says, "Let's Go!" Not all of us have a schedule or enough time to provide these basics. If you cannot provide one or more of these requirements, a Lab might not be a good pet for you.

Agree with the energy. I'm on my 5th black lab now. None of them eat shit other than a bit of bunny poop. And never roll in it. I've heard it has a lot to do with neutering, but don't know for sure. That was just in an article I found when a friend had trouble with her lab.

I can’t tell you the disgusting thing Mavis has been into! Disgusting. Sometimes the Velcro action can be a bit too much. She is the best companion and I swear she knows how I am feeling.

Still don’t know what’s wrong, he’s 11, probably just confused them with whatever teen girls resemble, not figured out what that is yet though. He doesn’t go for children, teen boys or adults. 🤭

It’s not just eating that, labs eat everything they can, even if it doesn’t quite fit in their mouth, they’ll still try. I once heard someone describe a Labrador as “a stomach with legs” and it’s definitely very accurate! I’ve had several labs and lab mixes over the years and every single lab I’ve ever seen has tried to eat everything. They love to eat, love to chew, love to grab things with their mouths, and it’s the thing I’ve heard new lab owners complain about the most. They truly are wonderful dogs to own, especially for beginners, but it’s definitely something a lot of people aren’t quite aware of. Still, I’m glad you mentioned it!

Look at what you are feeding your dog. If it is a kibble then that is likely the reason. Most kibble is a hideous concoction of cereal and 'derivatives'. Once the diet is sorted then the need to pay ludicrous amounts of money on vets, allergy and infection medications go. So invest in good dog food.

So what's up with this "working line" you've mentioned? 🤔 I'm thinking about getting a golden retriever labrador mix as my first dog and got a little scared when I heard that they are that energetic. I lived together with a German shepherd border collie mix for two years but I always felt that I couldn't satisfy his need for exercising. Is a golden retriever labrador mix on the same level or is there a way to train them otherwise (mind exercise etc.)?🤔
@AlBundyy
@AlBundyy 11 ай бұрын
Bred for hunting/police work. Working line = energetic, ready to go work, and waiting on you. They are energetic and require a lot of mental stimulation, but are they easy to train. It's like they came out of the box trained. I have a working line (hunting) labrador, and he's the most intelligent dog I've ever owned. He's always ready to go always by your side for every task. Great dog. The big plus is that he likes to keep clean & I love it! Don't be afraid to get stern with them and correct them. They are animals, after all. They will always try to push their boundaries around you to see how much they can get away with. Set your boundaries and hold them to it. You'll have the perfect dog. 😊

My labrador does not like stuff coming out the back end of other animals. LOL. He even steps very far around the area of his own poo. I seriously think my labrador is OCD. He expects only clean things. If his ball has dirt or grass. He will go drop it in his water bowl and roll it around until clean. If his toy lands in an area where there is pee or poo. He ain't touching it. If his bumper has sand or dirt, he's trying his best not to put that part in his mouth.

They are the worst for eating anything and everything in sight, including their own poop sometimes ... or other dog's poop!

They are stupidly greedy and will find a way to steal food from kitchen counters, fridges & so on, even though you have done your best to put that item out of the way, we still managed to find a way to have it for themselves. Also the fact that I cannot put anything down anywhere in my lap or just have it even though she knows, it’s something she’s not supposed to have do it, she has cost me an absolute fortune where she has destroyed my expensive prescription glasses that I had up on my mantelpiece for thought she couldn’t get it and then the next thing you know when I looked at the camera. She climbed up on the sofa and then got it from climbing up onto the battle. Please what are pause and then proceeded to eat the glasses, which may be funny to some person reading this, but it’s not for me because I can’t afford to replace said glasses. I now have to use Poundland reading glasses that aren’t anywhere near suitable for my eyes, but I’ve got no choice.

So true! I recently learned that my black lab will literally jump up onto the counter to get food I’ve deliberately moved away from the edge lol. He also is an avid sock collector and will take our socks and hide them in various places 😐🤣

It's a lack of training, consistency, and structure on your part. As puppies, the behavior is expected b/c they are animals. But it is up to you to train your dog to be able to live with you. Some dogs take longer than others to train. But ultimately, it's you.
