Hi, I’m glad to hear no stories of nurses being mean to trainee docs, though I know that happens too. I’m retired, but was a paediatric surgical nurse for 43 years. We always tried to help the first year docs, especially in their first rotation, by telling them to always ask the older nurses questions if they needed to know stuff. Less intimidating than asking a tired grumpy senior doc! Keep up the good work, and keep being nice to your juniors.....no need to eat your young!

Hi guys it’s Michael G (camo scrub hats)scrub nurse from the General. I remember many of those comments, I was there during some of those cases. I am so grateful that you are way beyond that and are able to share those stories. Some people don’t believe it when I tell them that there is staff who treat residents that way. So glad to see how successful and respected you both are. Great job bros. Michael G. General Hospital

When I was I'm podiatric medical school, we had a nurse that we called nurse Rackman who terrified every medical student. When you screwed up, she would scream at you and humiliate you. I had usually been working in the nonsterile field, but on this day I was on the sterile side. At one point I grabbed for something that was not sterile and that screwed up the area. She started yelling at me, but I just redid everything to make sure that I wouldn't screw up again. Then nurse Rackman did something that was unheard of.....She apologized to me and said she understood why I screwed up. Every surgical student in the room was shocked because she had never apologised to a med student before. After that any question that any med student wanted to ask nurse Rackman, they had me do it.

😂 The rookie break-in period. It's tough. (For the new guy). Few years back, my business partner (construction) was on a job giving similar degrading chirps to a new hire. Somewhat relentless. and later that day this guy climbed out of a bedroom window of house they were working on, walked to town, called his Mom to pick hum up, and we never seen him again. Everybody's wondering: "Where'd he go?" We found out the details of the escape years later. That guy is now running his own construction company. 👍 Even the OR is not immune to this. Thanks for the vid.

If you do concussions I would love to hear your take on chewing gum to help with the poor communication after a bad concussion. My niece was talking about her mother's problem with saying whole sentences and a coworker from France (I think) said to chew gum, that it was done back home. My sister started to do it and after a few days was able to talk way smoother. Maybe the chewing muscles helped the blood flow!? I tried it but with TMJ I couldn't keep it up.

On the other side of the coin the one thing a patient under a local doesn't want to hear is the surgeon saying "Oops" (courtesy of Bill Cosby in his better days). Reminds me of some Army Officer Efficiency Reports over the years - "This officer is tall", This officer's men follow him only out of an idle sense of curiosity", "This officer has never made the same mistake twice, but he's made them all once" and many more! ;-)

I trained at one of the largest County Hospitals in the US. The chief of ortho was a legendary misanthrope and I was on his service as medical student. One day in the OR he asked the senior resident who was operating a question about some aspect of the case. When the resident could not give him the 'right' answer, he stopped the surgery and told him that if he did not know, he had better start praying. And he made him go into the corner of the OR, face to the wall, kneel down and start praying. Then he had to come back and finish the case. I cannot remember what the case was, or what the the question was, but I will remember that poor resident's name til my dying day.

Glad that you both survived the bullying! Mean girls and boys abound. The medical profession has its share of horses asses just like every other profession does. I had a loved one in hospital and overheard one of his nurses berating a student nurse. I looked at the berater and said “didn’t you have to learn once too”? Probably should have kept my mouth shut for my loved ones’ sake but the nurse’s face went red and the student smirked at me and that was that. ;-)

I'm so sorry that you went through this! Many years ago, I was in a pretty serious car accident and had broken toes, ankle, compound femur fracture that came out through my knee and ulna snapped in two places. The attending ortho docs were all at a conference, so the residents had to basically keep everything stable for nearly a week. My youngest sis (who is a VERY pretty girl) came and stayed with me at the hospital and we'd crack jokes with the nurses and docs. The docs wanted to change my room to put me on the ortho floor but we really liked the nurses where I was. So I told these young residents and med students that we couldn't move because my sister had been stripping in the halls to help pay the hospital bills and she'd already made $4.38. I'm sure you can imagine their reactions! 🤣🤣🤣

So. I’m getting a 12 core biopsy of my prostate. I’m on a table. My butt sticking up, on my elbows. He’s got this Howitzer up my tucas. The urologist say’s: how you doing? Me: fine. You? He says: I’m a little behind. (A short pause). I say: is that a pun? And his assistant nearly collapses in laughter 😂😂😂

There is always someone that gives negative vibes but thank God you both will not be doing this. Already in the medical field their short staffed because of this. I am one that walked out of my job working on a very busy floor in the hospital. Head supervisor & Dr. followed me to the locker room trying to only say you're not really leaving instead of supervisor saying I am sorry. My supervisor wanted me to write a accident report on a patient that I never saw it happen and wasn't my patient! She 2as so messed up. She embarrassed me at nurses station which then I said good-bye. We need Drs; nurses and people in the medical field badly so those of you that are negative stop this!!!!

There are obviously a lot of very sharp knives in the OR. Surely a little malicious wounding is OK sometimes? Of the surgeon. But only the really damaged and needy ones.
