Interesting subject!!......a litre of diesel at the carfuel station costs around 2 Euro’s....plus 10 % if on the Autosnelweg/Autobahn/Autoroute....our interstates....I believe your US gallons is around 3.5 litres???....I bet you turn quiet by now?? By the way... I suppose if filling up with lower grade ‘diesel’ in harbours it can be (a lot) cheaper....like the big ships do......the price will be lower,but I am not sure your high-end supercruisers will run on that.....without cr***ing out...I suppose it’s less suitable for pleasure craft.... NO PUN intended!!!....love to hear your opinion!! Greetings from the Netherlands!! (finally you know why we drive tiny cars,,,,,)

Their weight makes the ride smoother, as a wave that can toss around say a little Whaler boat with a 110 hp outboard, will not do much to a 45 ton or more boat with 3,000 hp marine diesels powering it. Plus their hull is designed to cut through waves and plain at speed.

Fueling up a yacht is the cheap part as the toys and everything else cost way more. People that don’t have yachts think the fuel cost matter as it’s a lot of money all at once but what you don’t realize you don’t fuel up that often relatively speaking compared to the toys. Insurance and boat slips cost way more then fuel cost. Owning a boat is very expensive and always has been but more now then ever. Try to find someone to work on it that you can trust forget it. They almost always will rip you off as you are cornered and sometimes forced to fix it yourself.

I’m surprised how some of these huge/expensive yachts bounce around in the waves. Some of them plowed right through like the seas were calm, and some really did some rockin’ and rollin’. Why is that? Is it stabilizers that makes the difference? (Thank you in advance from a novice who knows almost nothing about boating).
@richardpadberg15572 жыл бұрын
Appears mostly from the speed at which different yachts were cruising, higher speed=more cutting and less bobbing
@surferdad2 жыл бұрын
Hull design (deeper sharper vee entry = much less bouncing up and down), weight of boat (more weight, say heavier fuel load, more water, food drinks, etc on board equals more stable, less bounce), speed (correct speed for conditions so not vee at front of hull cuts through water rather than boat bounce up and down) and trim if motors (if bow up too much, wrong trim, front of hull deep vee doesn't cut through the water, waves as well)
@karaDee23632 жыл бұрын
Many different factors affect that.. such as hull design, gross weight, length, speed, trim angle. etc.

This vid illustrates why boats like Midnight Express Beast and Vitesse will probably do well. They have decent live aboard space if needed, can carry a good group of people, are relatively light, and cruise fast enough to get you to your destination quickly. Plus if you know how to trim properly can handle pretty rough chop and you don't need a crew. I get the larger yachts serve many functions such as a place to impress clients or a place to socialize whether docked or going for a short ride
@DanielC__2 жыл бұрын
ME's are all show. They're meant for the "big wallet-little wee wee" crowd. If you're going to throw a few mil at a boat buy a Nor-Tech or SeaVee. Vastly superior boats with almost as much flash that can handle sea conditions that would crush an ME. ME's have a horrid ride in even minor sea's. They're dock boats, bay boats or sandbar boats at best. A party barge with nice finishes.
@Abebe3452 жыл бұрын
@@DanielC__ I haven't been in one, but I like the way the ME's handle. I've seen another Vitesse video and i like the way it handles seas, more than the 43 or 60 versions. The MEs will stuff the bow if you don't trim them for the conditions, but with someone who knows what they are doing, I like how they ride. They are definitely popular with show offs. But I like the Vitesse especiially, and the 43. The 60 looks underpowered and probably needs inboards.

Maintenance Slip rent insurance property tax all on one vessel. I learned quickly that anyone can sign up to buy one. But to keep it. Is a whole other issue. Because I did it. I would not do it again. One time is enough to own a hole in the water to through money away. Plus add depreciation value each year it gets older and loses value worst than anything. All in all a poor investment. Just because you can afford it doesn't mean it's worth the money. My boat was on a fresh water lake. It is much worse when the boat is on salt water. Much worse.
