I also watch a super yacht channel! They were talking about one of the Russian yachts that ran from the Caribbean to Mexico to Fuji! The fuel cost to fill up this yacht was approx $300,000! Dang! I b*tch about the $40 to fill up my little Cobalt! 😂

Interesting subject!!......a litre of diesel at the carfuel station costs around 2 Euro’s....plus 10 % if on the Autosnelweg/Autobahn/Autoroute....our interstates....I believe your US gallons is around 3.5 litres???....I bet you turn quiet by now?? By the way... I suppose if filling up with lower grade ‘diesel’ in harbours it can be (a lot) cheaper....like the big ships do......the price will be lower,but I am not sure your high-end supercruisers will run on that.....without cr***ing out...I suppose it’s less suitable for pleasure craft.... NO PUN intended!!!....love to hear your opinion!! Greetings from the Netherlands!! (finally you know why we drive tiny cars,,,,,)

For some reason I don't think people who can afford these boats are really the kind of people who worry about gas prices. I doubt they're juggling groceries or gas to get to work. These are likely the people who put others in those situations.

True, the fortunate folks who own these yachts are by great majority of the super wealthy 1%. However, even though I myself am firmly entrenched among the lower 99%, I enjoy these beautiful yachts and dreaming of sailing the seas in one while not having to fret about the insane price of the fuel being expended is a lot of fun. BTW your post prematurely popped my little fantasy bubble while offering only "duh" common sense those at the bottom 1% could have effortlessly figured out. Despite all this, I'm finding the fuel costs very interesting!

If you can afford a 2 million $$$ yacht, pretty sure you can afford to fuel it up. The smaller new boats that are on credit is a different story. Your paying month to month because you cant afford the boat and that means you are more likely using a credit card to fuel up the boat, and thats just insane really. I would never get into long term debt over a day out.

Fueling up a yacht is the cheap part as the toys and everything else cost way more. People that don’t have yachts think the fuel cost matter as it’s a lot of money all at once but what you don’t realize you don’t fuel up that often relatively speaking compared to the toys. Insurance and boat slips cost way more then fuel cost. Owning a boat is very expensive and always has been but more now then ever. Try to find someone to work on it that you can trust forget it. They almost always will rip you off as you are cornered and sometimes forced to fix it yourself.

I owned a 40 foot Sea Ray Sundancer from 2007 to 2012. The thing would melt a credit card at the gasoline pump then. Now I have no idea how these people do it. Maintenance Slip rent insurance property tax all on one vessel. I learned quickly that anyone can sign up to buy one. But to keep it. Is a whole other issue. Because I did it. I would not do it again. One time is enough to own a hole in the water to through money away. Plus add depreciation value each year it gets older and loses value worst than anything. All in all a poor investment. Just because you can afford it doesn't mean it's worth the money. My boat was on a fresh water lake. It is much worse when the boat is on salt water. Much worse. We had a saying on our dock we would say to each other. " are we having fun yet"

I’m surprised how some of these huge/expensive yachts bounce around in the waves. Some of them plowed right through like the seas were calm, and some really did some rockin’ and rollin’. Why is that? Is it stabilizers that makes the difference? (Thank you in advance from a novice who knows almost nothing about boating).

Appears mostly from the speed at which different yachts were cruising, higher speed=more cutting and less bobbing
@surferdad
@surferdad 2 жыл бұрын
Hull design (deeper sharper vee entry = much less bouncing up and down), weight of boat (more weight, say heavier fuel load, more water, food drinks, etc on board equals more stable, less bounce), speed (correct speed for conditions so not vee at front of hull cuts through water rather than boat bounce up and down) and trim if motors (if bow up too much, wrong trim, front of hull deep vee doesn't cut through the water, waves as well)
@karenfyhr2363

When something goes wrong at this inlet, I’m so impressed at how fast help arrives on-scene. And the number of agencies involved. From what I counted, they have the USCG, Police, Sheriff, Sea Patrol I think is what it was called, and towing services. Plus those guys on the jet skis have helped so many people! I will be visiting Southern Florida in a few months, and I will find this on a map and go check it out. I can’t believe all of the action from this one location!

If I could afford one of those big yachts, I sure wouldn't worry about how much it cost to fill up the tanks.... if you do, then you can't afford it

I am safe to say that the people that own these Yachts are more than capable of covering the cost of fuel! Doctors, CEOs etc. rarely run out of money, if they can afford the Yacht the fuel is the very least of their overhead..........

'To fill up capacity.' What does that mean? You mean, 'To fill up to the tanks capacity?'

Money can't buy common sense! Interesting to see how the different shapes hull handle the waves though.

if they can afford new boats over 45' they wouldn't need to worry about cost of fuel, or do they all run on Coke or is that used for the purchase

No they are not worried at all, I bet some of them write it off as taxes for business or corporate expenses.

So many of these yachts look fantastic and then you see that awful unsightly flybridge slapped on top! Or just a chunk on the back calved out for the aft decking area with a couple of poles holding up roof overhang grrrrrr...!
