Bit unfair on Rad Mobile saying it had nothing going for it - it had a lot of things that you didn't see elsewhere such as controls for windscreen wipers and headlights, cross roads with traffic going side to side, oncoming traffic, police that chase you and pull you over, secret shortcuts where you drive along a railway complete with the approaching train in your rear view mirror, banked corners, etc. And the cabinet was a full on hydraulic jobbie.

there's actually one miner difference in the sound hardware between the megadrive/genesis and cystem c/c2. the YM2612 is replaced with a CMOS version (ym3438) and is accompenied by a NEC UPD7110 dac for digitised sounds instead of the ym3438/2612's internal dac, which explains the clearer voice samples in Thunder Force AC over TF3.

Kim - I actually love Rad Mobile and its sequel. I think the big thing you are missing is a steering wheel. With a wheel, they are both a really fun time. Great list, Kim! Revenge of Death Adder needs a Sega Ages rerelease as ASAP as possible! My only issue... Puyo Puyo Tsuu and Columns should exchange places. In Japan, at least, Puyo Puyo Tsuu is the gold standard of competitive puzzlers, rivalling Street Fighter 2 in player count during the 90s. More sequels, tons of spinoffs, and a legacy leading to amazing competitors like Panel de Pon and Super Puzzle Fighter. There's a very good reason we never got "Ichidant-R Tetris" or "Columns Tetris".

The Puzzle & Action games were very popular in Spain. It seemed like every arcade had one of those sitting alongside an old Puzzle Bobble cabinet. They were not localized, though, so people kinda muscled through the Japanese instructions to figure out what to do. I have no idea if they were all bootlegs or if arcades were importing them from Sega, but they were definitely there.

What you may not know about Title Fight is the coolest thing about it. The cabinet had glove controllers for both hands, and the directions you move your hands would determine what actions your character would do Now unfortunately you had to do things like pull both hands forward to block, so it wasn't very sim like. Punch-Out Wii feels more like real boxing. Wii Sports Boxing feels more like real boxing. But it's still quite a novelty, more so if you can actually find a cabinet

As usual, this was enjoyable to watch. I've always liked the Spider-Man beat-em-up game. It has some issues and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to everyone, but I still enjoy that one. I've always had issues with Alien Storm. I actually found some of the voice samples in the arcade annoying. Can't win them all, I guess. Good to hear your take on all these games. Recently, there was news regarding the release of a lost game from Westone, Aquario of the Clockwork. It was apparently running on System 18 when it was location tested, so it's an interesting detail that corresponds with this topic. It's kind of cool to think of a lost System 18 game coming out, hopefully, soon. I don't know if there was ever more uncovered, but I remember reading some years ago that Desert Breaker may not have ever received an official arcade release. It does feel like it lacks a little something as if it's an unfinished game.

Slipstream is proof that we went through an era where things had to be 3d for 3d's sake to get by. I mean, even though it's 2d trickery, by rights it's so close to a proper 3d game it barely matters and given the tech of the day arguably looks better than some of the early 3d racers... But no, it's not using the cool new tech, so people didn't care...

Poto Poto is one I found myself spending a lot of time with too, definitely overlooked. I think the only thing that really lets it down is that the high scores are entirely 'complete time' based, there's no other scoring system, which seems odd for a puzzle game where there's often a secondary focus on getting big sores - actually clearing it takes a while.

The Where's Waldo and Segasonic games really SHOULD have been localized in the West. They would have been massive hits, especially if they were altered to be ticket redemption machines, Waldo especially, and released them to Chuck E. Cheese type places. There were certainly worse games they had in said kid friendly type arcades that got an audience with that demographic.

You really need a proper steering wheel to enjoy Hot Rod, it's obvious from the gameplay video that you're not going to have a good time. On the real deal you drift all over place with ease. System C didn't use the internal color encoder hardware and color RAM on the Megadrive VDP. Instead it used the external pixel buss and CRAM address lines on the VDP with an external color encoder (the same used in system 16) and an external color RAM so it had more available colors and color pallets than a Megadrive. Those pins on the VDP were left unconnected on the Megadrive mainboad, who knows why they went to the trouble to design the VDP to be expandable like that and then removed that ability by not connecting the pins to anything.
