This tripod gets it done. You are so right it does have some limitations, but for the price you cannot beat it. It is held up for me for more than three years.

Agreed. I use this tripod in a dedicated interview studio where it never needs to move. It's fine for that but: 1. The leg latches are a cheap brittle plastic. I wouldn't expect them to survive a lot of handling. 2. The head is not smooth at all and can't counter balance much if any weight. PS. I have a Manfrotto combo that has lasted me over 20 years! The Sachtler FlowTec system sure looks sick, though.

Thanks for sharing! Pretty much confirmed my theories lol. Maybe I’ll review the sachtler one day

I have had to tension the latches about 2 years into using it. A small allen wrench does the trick.

I actually just picked up one of these because it wasn't in my budget to get more expensive legs for each of my setups. I would have to say that, in 2 years, the price has dropped significantly ($120 reg, $99 with coupon), so the price is absolutely impossible to beat for the value of what you get. The tripod head, seems to be upgraded too, as in your video the pan and tilt are of poor tension, and they clearly listen to their customers, because I am using a MUCH heavier ENG rig just shy of the max weight for this setup, and when i adjust the pan/tilt, they are smooth as butter, with the tension at about what I would normally set it too for cameras within that weight range. So for being a cheap system, it's impressive to say how well it works in a professional setting. As for a head replacement with tension controls, they now make a "professional" version of the head that can hold more weight and has both pan/tilt tension controls for $89. So if you get this tripod at the $99 mark when it comes up and the head doesn't work to you, at least spending another $89 isn't breaking the bank.

Thanks for this video bud, I was thinking of picking this one up as a cheap fluid head option for the time being, but might as well just save up and bite the bullet. I need some tension in the head and this video basically answered all my questions.

I bought the same tripod and the pan is very smooth, not loose at all and you can adjust the tightness. I love it!! I don’t know why anyone would not like it!! Maybe the one I bought was a newer model.

I bought this tripod a few weeks back with the same head, and gave it a go with tracking aircraft at about 800mm with a Nikon Coolpix P1000. I could not get a smooth pan on the X-axis due to the lack of damping. I'm going to bite the bullet and upgrade the head on it and see how it goes. I can't fault the rest of it however.

This will be perfect for shooting gigs at venues. Because it can get a bit rough at these places, so an expensive tripod is ruled out. And 200cm, looks over the crowds heads too. Thanks :)

Thanks for the review. I recently saw someone with this tall tripod, and I had to find out if it could replace my Vinten Pro Touch ones, that I've had for over a decade... They are great but I need something really tall to get over the heads of crowds. This Newer one (pun) looks like it will fit the bill. I will just swap the heads over with my Vinten, so the weaknesses you found on the Newer head will not affect me. I also have that Manfrotto head that you showed in your video, and you can get an adapter to use it on your Newer legs, as it is a really smooth panning head… 🙏🏿

Hey is it normal for this tripod to basically bounce back to straight on the tilt angle? Once you un-tighten the knob?

Personally, if I'm gonna have a tripod that's only useful for locked-off shots, I'd rather it at least be lighter and less bulky than this beast. There's no reason to haul around the weight of the crutch-style legs and the bulky head; something with photo-style single legs and a photo ballhead would be lighter, smaller, and simpler to get set up.
@NatesFilmTutorials3 жыл бұрын
True! It does hold weight well and performs smooth tilts. But if you don’t need that their are definitely smaller options

HOHOHO introducing "the professional....." was a big statement.... 😳 I kept looking for a professional tripod for 2 month & still hard to find even considering Sachtler in 2nd hand for "reasonable pricepoint"... My advise it to be more concise in details such as weight, bounce & other details. For sure it's not for me, as I'm sure you have the potential to create more informative content. Filmed alright, music too loud, need more information. But the effort is noted 😉 (sorry for the dushy comment it really isn't written with bad heart)

want smooth pans on a basic tripod? put a rubber band on the grip arm of the tripod and pull the band with the tip of your finger. shots will be smooth as butter.
