WORTH IT?! 🤯 UNEXPECTED Cost of My FORD GT Tour!

Let's break down the costs of the road trip in my Ford GT! Two weeks and nearly 3,000 miles around France, Monaco and Spain come to an end with a mega voyage back to The Shmuseum. Let's calculate the total cost of hotels, fuel, tolls, insurance and more for this adventure!
Having set off from the UK and crossed the Eurotunnel before driving the Route Napoleon down to Monaco, it was then onwards to Spain and a very long drive down to Marbella to join Supercar Owners Circle. After some brilliant downs in Andalucia, it's back via Madrid towards Santander for the 30+ hour ferry sailing to Portsmouth and onwards to home base.
However, it's always interesting to look back at these things and add up what it has actually totalled in terms of outlay on night stays, crossing, road costs like tolls and fuel, and what else is involved in making it all happen. I've owned the Ford GT for nearly 5 years now and while it doesn't come out all the time, doing a trip like this is certainly a big part of the lifetime memories it brings.

It helps greatly if you have multiple supercars. Then each one only has a few miles put on it a year. Same with Harry’s Garage - 5 great cars and each one only does one big trip every 5 years

The Ford GT has anti-lag on constantly, hence the low fuel economy. That being said, the GT is rated at 11 mpg city and 18 mpg highway, 14 combined, US mpg. So you basically met the highway rating doing combined driving, that's not bad!

@@Shmee150 Thanks Shmee! I just read over some Ford documents, seems the anti-lag is active is Sport mode and above. "Activating the Ford GT’s Sport mode adjusts throttle settings to sharpen responses from the car’s twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine and anti-lag system. Developed on the Le Mans-winning Ford GT race car, the anti-lag system keeps the turbochargers spinning to provide boost on demand."

Road trips in an unusual vehicle are fun. I just did 4000 km in eight days on a backroad road trip through Washington State and Oregon on my Burgman 400 scooter. Hwy 20 through the Cascades was a highlight, as was Hwy 66 from Hwy 89 to I 5 in southern Oregon. Hwy 66 was the greatest motorcycle ( or sportscar ) road I've ever been on. Remote, no traffic, and twists so tight I couldn't look at my speedo to see how fast I was going. When I got back to Canada Customs, he said" Why would anyone do such a thing?" We know.

I did the Bilbao ferry years back. They put me & my Mondeo mk4 in the tiny bottom compartment of the ferry. A squeeze but a good ferry journey. The Iceland ferry is tighter...packed like sardines and almost had to climb out of the window, Dukes of Hazzard style 😂😂

The ferry is great, the new Santona is a huge improvement on the old ones You clearly upgraded to Commodore class though! I just recently did a return trip Portsmouth-Santander and it cost me less than £1k for car +2 The 1800 miles saved to/from Calais and tunnel/hotel/fuel costs make it excellent value for money

I did a four day trip to York from Glasgow taking one of the days touring around Scarborough, Filey etc that I holidayed as a kid with my late Dad. I used points from my Sister for holiday inn so the three nights were free. I was £80 fuel getting well over 50mpg ( hay it’s a MINI COOPER) and I was thinking that’s nuts 😅think all in spent a few hundred. Tim’s road trips are different level 😂

I thought that SOC was a little bit longer, you did a drive, a track parade, and some drag races, which is amazing to do with those cars don't get me wrong, but all that time/driving for only 2/3 days and no more driving stuff organized by them, is it worth the time/effort?

The fuel is expensive in Europe. Here in Australia, that would be over 3 dollars a litre FUCK. Here it's like 2 dollars a litre and that's expensive by Australian standards.

If £420 is about 5% of the car's insurance premium, you double that to give 10% - that's £840 - and add a nought to give 100%, which is a total of (gulp) around £8,400 a year. 😲 Blimey. As my total annual income is only £800 [eight hundred quid] these days, I'm SO glad I ride a grotty old bicycle. There's a further financial bonus: a bike doesn't need an air freshener [although the Shmoo-cow one is adorable], so that's a few more bob saved...
