@@RobsRemixes this might be chaotic post. So 6 months in with XSX, I also own PS3 and PS4 (and a laptop which can be used to playing games). I do not care about platform but to find enjoyment in gaming. With that said let's get into the subject. XSX and UI I needed some time to adjust to it, but after like a few weeks it I leaned it and have no problems. PS has PS Now but I find XGP better offer for me, even though it is more expensive. Fist PS Now seems not to know what it what's to be, so far games available for DL are only PS4 versions, while on Xbox you will get the X/S version in XGP. You pay, you download you play. Simple easy and works. The quick resume with the update mentioned in the video is a nice feature - especially for games you play regularly (for me it is Wreckfest with its daily challenges). It is not perfect as there were a couple of games that did not work properly when using this feature, but most worked like a charm. Another thing is the approach to delivery of digital content (less important if you prefer physical media) the smart delivery system sounded to me like a cheap marketing gimmick. But again it works and imo better than what PS5 had to offer. Example - you buy a cross gen title which has current gen version on xbox you get version optimized for your console. While on PS5 you have to choose which version to DL. If I was about to name one disadvantage it will be the online DRM system. So far I had only one case where it pissed me off. But it is something to keep in mind. On PS5 if you have a digital or physical game which can be played offline you will be able to play it. On Xbox not always sadly. To me it happened when there was an MS Live outage and I was unable to play games. This can be addressed imo and MS should do something about this. How it works is if you're offline and try to install older game from disk it still needs to get config from MS servers without this it does not allow you to play, same might happen with already downloaded digital game. MS apply some type of patch for account which have the console set to home console. But it is not great. Why I believe this can be fixed? MS already has an offline mode - but this one is not turned automatically when the network is down you have to enable it while being online. This allows you to play any game (game pass games included) for 30 days, after this period you need to connect to the internet. So except for the DRM, I really like the console, I might have not notice the DRM issue if not for MS Live outage which was for like 4h I had for gaming. With XSX even though Game Pass is main way of getting games still have disc drive and I can buy games if I wish to.

PS5/series S is a great combo. You get your next gen 4K graphically impressive games on the 5 while you get your game pass, FPS boost, and Microsoft exclusives on the S.

Don't have alot of time to game and I do think the PS has better exclusives than Xbox but that may change with ms buying studios like Bethesda, also planning a week away and definitely gona pack this little machine into my bag. Been great to take it with me on previous trips, it's a huge plus

I'm a dad of 3 and I was walking in Wal-Mart In the electronics and spotted 2 sitting in the glass case. I immediately grabbed 1, especially because my job travels. Love the Size for easy carry and the fact u don't have to carry a bunch of CDs. Just console and controller.

Yeah, even if the install is on an external storage, it still requires the disc to authorize the game to play. That's a great idea and wish they did that.

Absolutely love my Series S, covid restrictions have been lifting where I'm at and I was able to bring my Xbox in a small backpack and play so next gen stuff with my friends at their place, since their xbox one controllers are compatible with my Series S we had no issues, it was a fun day

@@Mike._s - It really depends on the game. Fifa can technically be played offline, but you won't be able to update rosters, land things of that nature. You will need to connect your console online at least once every 30 days however. There are many games out there that require an online connection so something to take a look at.

@@keepmymindpreoccupied2892 - it depends on the game. If it can be played offline, you can do so for up to 30 days before the console needs to validate the game again. If the game requires an online connection, you most likely wouldn't be able to play fully offline.

Had the Xbox Series S for 6 months until I finally sourced a Xbox Series X recently. I have to say I was blown away by almost everything after upgrading from a Xbox One S. Huge graphical improvements over last gen, FPS to 60 is a much bigger deal than i thought it would be (Buttery smooth 60 on most games) but by far the best is the SSD load times. No more jumping to the toilet for a pee while your game loads, Loads almost instantly and i loved it. slight downside is no disc drive but it was only prevelant for me in one game (GTA IV Complete edition as its not available digitally) biggest downside was storage space, kinda OCD about storage space but still found the 364GB fill up super fast. You just need to be very aware of what games you are planning to play and dont have those clutter games. Now while I would recommend the Series X first just purely for that extra storage and the better graphics, I really did love the Series S, didnt struggle to play any high end games, super fast loading, graphics are great and its a tiny little machine thats completley silent. highly recommend it if you're still on last gen and dont want to wait for Series X stock or pay a premium.

Totally agree. I love my Series S and with the stupid expensive Seagate SSD expansion storage, it really helped. For more than a 3rd of the cost of the console, wouldn't recommend that, lol.

Just bought Series S, time for a little upgrade from my old Xbox One. Main reason of that was long loading time, fps drops and visual quality of some games, Xbox one show me its age... Most of my library is digital so i decided to go all digital, the physical games i care about will be bought again in digital format after i sell physical ones so there is no problem for me. The main problem for sure will be disc drive but i plan to buy some 2tb drive in near future.

It all depends on the TV/Monitor that you have whether it will make any difference. On the proper TV/Monitor, it def can make a difference at the higher end, but most people don't need that in the near-term from what I've seen.

Also depends on what kind of 4k TV you have, if it's not a high-end HDR with a high refresh rate, it's not worth it, you need an OLED (which is more than 1k $) to really see the difference. I have an older gen of Samsung 4K TV and it didn't have all of that so I chose the Series S, it upscales to 4K and it looks just fine.

The Series S is pretty awesome. I have it in a bedroom that doesn't have HDMI 2.1 where as I have the PS5 and Series X on a TV that does. The nice thing about the S tho, it can get up to 120hz on some games where support, but it's not even close to 4k at this point.

The Series S looks good on the few 4k TVs that I've played it on (including HDMI 2.1 enabled TVs). The graphics, you'd have to go right up to the TV to see the pixels.

I have a Sony PS4 slim which I love and also a Nintendo switch which I love. I have not played on Xbox since the old days on 360 but I’m seriously considering moving over just for the game pass. The Series S is a great option into the Xbox ecosystem. Couple with Game Pass and it's an even better value. It can upsample to 4k, so you'd be fine there. It always gives you the option to move up to the Series X if you want more.

Can anyone answer me this, the games that are stored on a USB external drive, will they update on that drive or do I need to copy them over to the internal drive and have them update? I want to be able to keep most of my library on my USB external drive but I don’t want to have to keep moving them over if I need to update them. When I want to play, I move the updated game onto the SSD and go. Hopefully that makes sense.

Games stored on a USB, as long as the USB drive is connected and the setting it to keep things up-to-date, they will be. You don't need to move them from internal to external storage for them to be updated. Hope that helps.

A Series S would work fine for the 720p TV. You most likely won't be able to take advantage of the higher resolutions or the higher framerates, but it'll do the job.

I wouldn't get a One X if you can avoid it. It can provide better resolution, but lower framerates. If you're looking to get into the Xbox ecosystem, the Series S is a great introduction along with Game Pass. If you find yourself enjoying it, then move up to the Series X.

I am a student in university and i definitely think about bying series s considering that i am not the hardcore game who spends 30 and 40 hours per week. 10 hours during a week are completely fine for me. I dont want to play 10 or 20 games per year,but just the exclusives like forza,gears of war,halo etc and some sport games. Yeah, if you have physical games, the Series S doesn't make a ton of sense as a main console. Maybe a secondary one, but the Series X would make more sense.

That's a good point. Having a FOV is such a big deal in FPS games. Having it on PC I tend to forget about it on Xbox.

The Series S can technically get up to 4k, but that's a lot of upsampling. It's sweet spot will sit around the 1440p range, with graphically intensive games dropping in resolution. The Series S I'd say is a good buy if you want to get into the Xbox ecosystem or want Game Pass. Those would be the two main reasons until more exclusives start to come to the console.

@@Scarface1982G FPS is only more important if you’re gonna play competitive gaming online that requires you to be quicker than your opponents IMO If you’re just just a causal online gamer and mostly play story based games, I much rather have the best looking experience which 120fps will not improve. If 120fps is most important than you should strongly consider paying a little more for the x or ps5. Currently the only games that the s can do are last gen games that got upgraded. I’m not an expert on specs but a lot of angry people that purchased the s to play Cold War are saying the Xbox s isn’t powerful enough for newer games to do 120fps. I’m hearing that the developer has to take extra steps if they want their games that do 120fps on the ps5 and Xbox x to also be 120 on the s. If this true, I don’t see why developers would do that just for people that bought an s.

well i'm coming off of PS4 Pro and have invested heavily in its simulator accessories so as you can tell I'm a PlayStation guy and very interested in racing and flight games . . . for me the benchmark was and still it Gran Turismo and the only reason i would get PS5 was GT7 however once it was available on PS4 it was done for me no PS5 for now, however i recently purchased a Nintendo Switch to enjoy a family fun with Mario party because no one does it better than Nintendo, this was an eye opener for me, i was missing out on a whole lot of gaming due to brand loyalty. i started think about great titles Xbox has like Forza and Microsoft Flight sim and i was sold on the S series, i have a 4K 60 FPS Samsung TV, i'm still not sure should i go with S or just save up and get the X ?

Brand loyalty really does block you off from enjoying gaming as a whole. As you mentioned, getting a Switch showed you what you had been missing in Nintendo's walled garden. With Xbox, what size TV do you have?

Buying one in 2 weeks. As long as there is storage for forza horizon 5, need for speed unbound (releases december 2nd), and dragon quest 11, im happy. Good way to get into next gen without giving money to scalpers

Ey..is important to mention that if you have a external HDD with games from your xbox one. You can connect it to your series S and it will let you play those games right away (after a little update that takes like 3 seconds). Awesome.

The main caveat is that Sony hasn't been very transparent in what future games will be coming to the system or not. Expect, at most, an additional 2 years of support and that is probably being generous. If there's anything next-gen specific, this will highly impact your choice. The other point is the price, it's $100 more than the Series S, so you're def paying for the higher fidelity. With chip shortages winding down, you'll start to see the Series X and PS5 become more widely available too. Something to keep in mind.

The s was my only option because that's what the store had at the time. It's impossible to find either or. I just got lucky with the S. One was on the Walmart shelf just sitting there. Just picked it up. 300 dollars. Not too bad of a deal for next generation.

It all comes down to use case and what will make the most sense for you. My One X I didn't play much after getting either the Series X or the S. Personally, I'd rather have higher frame rates than higher fidelity when it comes to FPS games and higher fidelity for other games.

I originally bought the Series S (my first foray into the Xbox ecosystem), but I sold it a short time later because I was suffering from FOMO. :/ I then bought the Series X and hooked it up to my spare TV...(get this) a 1080p system. After a while, I decided I didn't need the optical drive and I was never going to use the full power of the Series X, so it when bye bye. I picked up another Series S a couple of hours ago at my local Target (dumb luck) and will just enjoy what I have. Less IS sometimes more.

Very true. It really does depend on what you plan to use the console for. If you're staying on 1080p (regardless of TV refresh rate), the Series X is like using a bazooka on a fly. Complete overkill.

The primary challenge you're going to run into isn't the console, but rather the games and if they are purely offline or not. It sounds like a digital console wouldn't make the most sense for you. You'll for sure want a physical disc drive on the console. You're also going to need to buy the physical discs (digital games require validation at least every 30 days via internet). Lastly, it depends on what games you actually want to play that are exclusive to that console that will determine which console to go with. What exclusive games are you looking for?

On Xbox, you would need Xbox Gold to play online with friends for that game. The only games you wouldn't need to pay for Xbox Gold would be games that are free to play. PES21 would require Xbox Gold to play. Game Pass itself doesn't have Xbox Gold in it, but the Ultimate version does. It's cheaper in the long run to go Ultimate ($14.99 per month) than it would be just to buy Xbox Gold ($9.99 by itself).

No worries, and thanks for the question. The Series S can go up to 120hz, but of course the resolution is going to drop as a result. Will you notice a difference? Possibly, depending on how good your TV's processing is. I have a Sony X90J that uses AI to upscale on top of the upscaling that the console does and it does an amazing job. I can't speak for the Samsung TV. The only other thing is in the Xbox video settings, making sure to enable the 120hz option, but you should be able to get the higher framerate with the Series S.

That's especially true for newer games, even more so if they are tied to some kind of online component. Older games, there is more leeway for offline games that don't require online connections. Meaning that it's not a big enough generational leap between the two systems to really make a ton of difference. Even more so if you have physical games that you won't be able to use. The main difference between the two systems come in resolution (1440p generally speaking), potential higher framerates, and faster loading. That will be a personal preference, but I wouldn't spend $300 for those things (especially if I don't have a TV that goes up to 120Hz to take advantage of the higher framerates).

That's really the big decider that many miss. If you don't have a TV that can take advantage of the Series X, there's very little point to get the Series X. Might as well do the Series S until ready to make a bigger investment.

I was a Sony Ps fanboy. Had the psx, ps2 fat, psp (fat,go,slim), ps3 slim and stopped.. didnt bought ps4. I started peeking over xbox fr a distance. Never got to buy a last gen console. Personally, I am in both ecosystems and if I have anything older than PS4, it's not gaurenteed to play on my PS5. With the Series S being a digital system, if you're not adverse to it, you'd be buying it all digitally and can play clear back to the Xbox era in many cases. If you want a lot of older games, I'd check out the backwards compat list to see if the games you want are on it. Series S is a great starting point to see if you want to jump into it fully or not.

Thanks Tom, I appreciate it! Xbox thru the Xbox One X era games can be played off of a HDD/SSD via USB. Some Series S and X games can also be played off of them, but I haven't dug into which ones. The main drawback is the loading and visuals (visuals in that textures and assets would potentially load slower). Hope that helps!

You shouldn’t buy the series S for these following reasons look if you have playable disc at your house that you paid good money for or if you go to game stop to buy used games just to try them out and return them. Also this is a less powerful system than the X you end up spending twice as much money in the long run. Be patient

You're right that if you have a lot of physical games, getting a Series S wouldn't be the most ideal option and possibly be a bigger investment over time. This is also based on an assumption of getting rid of what you had prior (which isn't always the case and is case specific). If you plan to get a Series X anyway, getting a Series S is again, very case specific and requires less hardware to work at full capacity (whereas the Series X requires HDMI 2.1, which is pricy at this point). Great points to be mindful of!

I hear what you're saying. However, Game Pass is an added cost not associated with the hardware. So regardless of which console you get, it will be in addition to the cost so 6 month's worth of cost would have the same effect. In relation to the console, it really comes down to the use case of the person and what makes sense for them.

Here’s the main problem with your argument though: for every day that you spend trying to play whackamole with scalpers for the *very* limited supplies of the PS5 & Series X you could already be enjoying tons of games on a Series S. Gamepass Ultimate is only an additional $5 on top of what you would normally be paying for Xbox Gold anyways, and there are several tricks you can use to accumulate tons of Gamepass Ultimate subscription time for relatively cheap. The “Series X is only $200 more” idea only works when both consoles are at their MSRP’s and are in regular stock. Until that day, the Series X is often several hundred dollars more than the Series S, which lowers its comparable value quite extensively.

You can get other storage options besides the Seagate storage. The Seagate storage is specifically for storing S|X games. Besides that, you can use a USB device to play Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games, they just won't have the fast loading times.

I got mine from walmart $299. I never owned previous xbox consoles, no xbox game disks, no fancy 4k tv, have an extra 1T external hard drive layin around, and a regular sony bravia tv. So the series S is perfect for me. Game pass was only a dollar for the first month which was great, i downloaded as much games as i can to try them out. I installed netflix, hulu, hbo max to watch movies and ufc. Bought a xbox brand battery and headset. So far i'm happy with it.

Bro, please try the series s on a 1080P gaming monitor, not 4K, and you will be amazed! Nothing is soft, all is tac sharp! Also a 50 inch 4K TV has 88 pixels per inch, but a 24 inch 1080P monitor has 92 pixels per inch, so my 1080P 24 inch monitor is actually sharper than a 4K at 50 inches. It`s all about the distance you sit, and if you are playing at native resolution with the series s, then wow it will impress you! Try it :)

Totally agree. I have a 1440p 165hz monitor, a couple 1080p 120hz monitors, and then the TV for the Series X and PS5. The Series S on that 1440p screen is fantastic and considering I'm only sitting about 3 feet away, you can def see it.

Makes sense. It's why I mention that if you have a One X, unless there's a Series only game, stick with it and you'll be fine. I'm sorry you have buyer's remorse, that really sucks and know how you feel. At least you can move to a Series X at some point.

I'm coming from the Xbox One and I can only afford the S at the moment so this is a big decision (don't want to waste my money). I have watched dozens of videos and this one makes me lean towards purchasing it. However, the most annoying thing is saying Game Pass is what makes it worth it. EVERY video I have seen said that Game Pass is the main reason to push you to buy it. As an Xbox One owner, I have had Game Pass since its launch so it incredibly annoys me when I see people mention Game Pass as a/the definitive reason.

Makes sense and I hear what you're saying. Perceived value and perceived benefit come into play here. Buying the console just for 3rd party titles is an option, but potentially decreases the value proposition of it. In your position, it depends on what you value more. Graphics or frame rates.

@@BusyDadGaming Here are all the reasons I'm looking to buy the S. 1) My Xbox One officially broke down and decided to may as well get the next gen console instead of buying a last gen. 2) Cant afford an X. 3) All I REALLY care about is load times. The main game I play takes roughly 5+ minutes to get into game from launching the title (hoping with the SSD, the S would be faster). So, ya....all I really care about with the S is if it has faster load times. As long as the graphic quality isn't WORSE, I should be fine (shouldn't be worse). And if the graphics are better, it's a bonus (Although, 1 video showed that the textures in certain games ARE worse in the S than the X which is disappointing but I'll accept it. Still better or the same as the Xbox One) I'm not one to nit pick with the specs as long as its at least 60fps, better than 720p, and doesn't look like its from a PS3/Xbox 360 or worse.

Why focus on exclusives? That shouldn't even be a thing IMO. Get your customers by making great hardware/UI/gaming experience - not by paying for exclusives. Would be better for ALL gamers, if all games were available on all platforms.

I would love that, but all companies do that as part of their USPs. It's what differentiates them from their competitors. I don't see it going away any time soon so as long as exclusives exists and it's on a specific platform, then I will generally go to that platform.

By that same thinking, Mac and PC shouldn't exist and should be combined. Mac and PC make each other better because of competition. It is also up to other companies to determine whether one platform is the best option for them based on what outcomes they are aiming for. This gets more into a business discussion though.

Thats why they would never open crossplay for the majority of games, cuz people who can plsy with their playstation friends and doesnt need the exclusives would never buy a playstation again

The Series S really is a great way to get into the Xbox ecosystem. For my S, I did All Access (I wanted to test that process) so I pay monthly for the box and Game Pass Ultimate.

Great video, I'm kinda interested in the Series S since my household is primary Playstation and Nintendo, we have the Switch and PS5, PS4 but I'm very interested in the Series S primary for Gamepass games. Would you recommend it to a person like myself in that situation?

If you're thinking about getting into the Xbox ecosystem, the Series S is a great entry point. Add Game Pass to it and that will keep you busy for quite some time. After Xbox's E3 presentation, there are quite a few games coming to game pass this year as well. Another thing to keep in mind, the Series S does not need the same level of TV as the PS5 does.

That's awesome, glad you're enjoying. My PS5 I'm only playing Ratchet on. Granted, cool game, but currently the only thing PlayStation that I'm currently playing. Everything else is PC or Xbox.

Agreed. Great platformer and the sequel is really good too. If you enjoy that, to a lesser extend, you may like Yarny if you have Game Pass Ultimate (it includes EA Play).
