I’d love to see a video where you react to garments without knowing the brand. Like joe could pull some options and you react to them and then it’s revealed to you the brand or designer.

I got my winter coat (vintage wool Laura Ashley riding coat--forest green, ankle-lenth, full skirt, my edwardian-style dream) for approx. $150 on ebay in early 2021. It was probably one of the most expensive things I'd ever bought at that time, but it does its job so wonderfully well--like wearing a wool blanket that manages to flatter while leaving room for extensive layering beneath. And rather than feeling drawn to shopping for new coats, every winter I am filled with excitement to bring it out once again. Having the money to invest in a beautiful winter coat that keeps me warm and brings me joy is such a privilege!

I have had my perfect coat for something like ten years. It is starting to break down - I've replaced the zipper and repaired the pocket linings more than once over the years, and there's a wee hole somewhere on the outside. My mother has been trying to get me to get a new one for long enough that she's exited that phase and given up. I'm not unwilling to consider a new coat; even I am annoyed at how the pockets inevitably develop holes every time I fix them and I have to fish things out of the hem between the outside and the lining, and ten years is a respectable run! I just never find anything I like enough to replace what was a very discounted Marc Jacobs wool coat with an olive green body, black sleeves, and plum-brown lining. It's the most me coat that could possibly exist and it's frankly offensive that I can't make it immortal.

As a Canadian, I can fully attest that Aritzia jackets (even their puffiest duvet shrouds) are NOT winter-proof. They're fashionable, and okay if you're going from the office straight to the underground metro/subway... if the weather is mild in * autumn *. But realistically, they're worn by people who are okay with suffering in the cold so long as they look like a Pinterest model but no one in their right mind would even wait at a bus stop in an Aritizia jacket on a regular Quebec winter day. (Personally, I found Canada Goose to be the warmest winter jacket because they were made to be worn in the Arctic. BUT I wanted to get it secondhand and thankfully didn't have to wait long until one of their floor-length jackets came onto Facebook marketplace and snagged it for a fraction of the price. It's now my forever jacket and keeps me incredibly warm even when I've been out with my dogs on a two hours excursion.)

Just putting here that thrifting coats off season can get you some crazy deals. This year I randomly found an ankle length suede leather coat for 15€ and an ankle length 100% wool, viscose lined winter coat with a huge and kinda extra fur collar for 25€. Insane finds honestly I can’t believe I have them now lol they delight every time I wear them :D

Two more affordable brands that you could maybe react to for coats are Quince and Uniqlo! I know you're familiar with both, but I feel that Uniqlo especially falls in this weird place where some of their stuff is actual scratchy fall-apart-in-18-months garbage, and some of their stuff is BEAUTIFUL and super long-lasting (and thank god I've gotten better over time at spotting the difference before buying). Uniqlo also has more gorgeous desaturated color options than most brands out there. Just speaking as someone who can't afford the other options you mentioned but still got quality coats within my budget :)

These coats are beautiful, and I appreciate the thought you put into your wardrobe a lot. It inspires me to do the same. I hope that you love your puffer coat for a long time and that it lasts as long as you need it to. For me, my body changes a lot. This is partly genetics and medical for me. I exercise regularly and eat healthily, and if I did not, it would still be ok. I would like to hold space here in this comment for others whose bodies also may not stay the same size their entire adult life. I try to buy high quality, classic garments when I can find them that are adjustable or designed in such a way that they can accommodate the fluctuations in my size. Sometimes that is not possible, and depending on my size at that time, garments like that may be less available. I recently had to buy a new wool coat. I have mended and dry cleaned my old, smaller coat and carefully stored it away for the next time my hormones change again and it fits me better. I have come to believe that it is also ok if clothes are only for a season in your life, and then you choose to resell them or give them away. Not all of us can commit to one puffer coat for the rest of our lives, and that is ok.

The hood reminds me of medieval menswear, as in the hoods you see over the top of tunics in old tapestries of men working in fields. It’s not the exact same shape, but when I think of a detached hood that’s what I think of, except that those could be tied to a belt so you wouldn’t lose them, and I think this is the kind of thing you would take off and then completely forget about.

This is going to be my fifteenth year with my Uniqlo-J+ collab coat! I get it dry cleaned every fall and wear it all winter and it has not a single sign of age or wear and tear. It's navy blue, it has bell sleeves and a massive hood and I can't even express how warm it is. I went for a *day at the zoo* in twenty degree weather and I was great! All my friends with new, more expensive coats were shivering, but I was very happy. I can't be convinced that there's a better coat out there for me, and since it's seemingly indestructible, I don't think I need to worry!

About five years ago, I bought a wonderful, beautifully made, long, thick, cozy coat from Toast to celebrate a new job. It's still going strong. One of the [many] details that drew me to this coat was the lining - cotton/cotton blend, not polyester for the love! All of their products are made with such attention to detail, and in natural fibers. Highly recommend for an investment piece (and they do have excellent sales).

I loved this window shopping style video and watching you analyze all the different silhouettes and colors! I would gladly watch similar videos about more affordable options or different pieces of clothing. Personally, I love the shape of the Carrie Rose wool coat by IVY OAK (a supposedly sustainable, woman-founded, german brand). Their coats are quite expensive but seem to be of good quality (I just purchased my dream coat from them today that's been on my wishlist for over two years now). The draped style of the Carrie Rose is something I have seen before, but the details and proportions make it elevated compared to other versions from other brands in my opinion. They do loads of different styles of coats, though, more structured ones and ones with hoodies attached, and the colors are always sublime.

I would love to see you talk about winter boots/leather boots in this way. I'm finally getting ready to buy The Pair of black leather boots but would love to hear someone discuss different styles in this way
