I wanted to give you a little heads up on some of the English stuff that makes no sense. Chassis is another word for the main body of a car, and it is used as body towards women.
@dogwalker6663 ай бұрын
Exactly also the main body of trains and the metal frame of old valve radios and TVs.

Haha I love the passage from the text you chose as the title of this episode. I'm surprised it wasn't 'On Screen, She is Charming.'

Ingrid Bergmann sounds just as lovely as I thought she'd be. I do believe the reason she wore flats in private was that she was quite tall, at least for a women of her time, and towered over many men.

Yay, I actually knew all of these actresses and have seen many movies of each of them, except I think I’ve only seen Delores del Rio in “The Fugitive” with Henry Fonda. Very interesting podcast episode! I highly recommend seeing “Topper Returns” with Joan Blondell, it’s so good! Although the first Topper movie with Constance Bennett and Cary Grant is a must too. Also “Lydia” with Merle Oberon is great. “Love is News” with Loretta Young and Tyrone Power.

This prompted a bit of research Barbara Stanwyck's first husband died at age 31. She later had fertility problems, and a later husband was abusive. No wonder she was a bit forlorn. I can't believe the original Femme Fatale had such a difficult love life.
@M.Datura3 ай бұрын
I can believe that very well, the idea of a Femme Fatale is the darkness that attracts, no? Where else would a person get that darkness from than from knowing pain?

The contrast and conflict between Olivia de Haviland and Joan Fontaine was legendary. Joan Fontaine constantly tried to break up deHaviland's relationships. Fontaine wound up "stealing" de Haviland's husband.

Chassis would be more a slang for Ms. Grable's entire torso, not just what she was known for in her famous WWII pinup photo. But then I found her entirely pleasing in form - not just from the rear. 🙂 Ms. Stanwyck was married twice. Her second husband was the star, Robert Taylor. In spite of this, when she moved to acting in television, there would be someone introducing her in a voice over for her role on "The Big Valley" (1956) western as "Miss Barbara Stanwyck." It felt similar to me as if she was Elizabeth I, painting herself in white makeup and declaring to her court, "I have become a virgin."

This was such a great episode! I love 1930s hollywood movies and stars. I love Norma Shearer too! have you seen her in "The Last of Mrs Cheyney" (1929)? I simply adore her character in that movie / the movie in general. I also really like Claudette Colbert and Olivia de Havilland. And with male actors: Basil Rathbone, 10/10, I think he is absolutely amazing across all categories. Now I really feel like watching some old movies, "Confession" (1937) with Kay Francis is another of my favourites. Feel free to leave movie suggestions everyone, I'm really in the mood for some silverscreen now!

Do you know where I could try shopping for a Regency-style stay, like what type of shops to go to? I dont want to buy one online. I want to try them on and find one that provides support for my back and chest. I live in the US... and I don't even know where to begin. Thanks so much. I love watching your videos.
@ellaisplotting2 ай бұрын
Redthreaded are incredibly well regarded for their stays, and do both patterns and ready made stays of different eras. I don't believe they have a physical shop, but they are reliable and excellent value. If you can take your measurements/have someone take them for you they will be able to fit you with something supportive.

Haha, i struktura kostna twarzy Joan Crawford przypomina szpadel ogrodniczy, i nawet z najlepszym makijażem wygląda jak zła wiedźma z bajki, gdzie ci ludzi mieli oczy? XDDD
