I love it whenever she appears. And yeah, you're right, it would be perfect if there's Japanese rice to go with the natto cuz that's the perfect combination.

"Overpriced green onions, overpriced natto" Yeah, prices were much lower at Donki when they opened their first outlet at Orchard Central. For example, Frugra would cost $5.90-$7.90, now it goes for $9.90-$13.90. Same for other japanese snacks/food items. Donki's first 6 months lived up to it's reputation as a discount chain store, now it feels more like a japanese themed supermarket with similar pricing to CS/NTUC.

A useful suggestion for you. In future when you introduce more japanese foods to foreign audience, do research a bit on their health benefits or origins etc. For this episode on natto, you could tell us for example all the health benefits of eating natto e.g. promotes healthy skin, lowers cholesterol n blood pressure etc. This way, people will come to appreciate this Japanese breakfast staple even more.😘😘

You look much younger with your new hair cut. You should try Chinese fermented beancurd which is usually eaten together with porridge or used to fry Kang kong 空心菜( a type of common , cheap vegetables )Please try the century egg with pickled ginger. Century eggs are duck eggs preserved with some alkaline substances so they are usually eaten with pickled ginger to neutralise the alkalinity.

My dad's from Japan too, he really really likes Natto and eats it almost every week. One day he convinced me to try Natto for the first time, it's tasted super bitter to me lol. I thought it would taste something like cheese. Thanks for showing different ways to eat it I might try it again. He's likes to buy the kirei brand of Natto and Nyatto the one with a cat on it. For first timers eating natto, it may be easier if eaten together with Japanese rice. I ate natto for the first two breakfasts of my Hokkaido holiday last year. It's ok but not something I want everyday and skipped it for the rest of the trip 😁. Raw egg mixed with hot steaming gohan is oishi and I ate it whenever available 😋

As a Singaporean staying in Ibaraki, I actually love natto. First try was bad, but after the second and third, it was fantastic. However, I gotta avoid it in summer. The bacteria is too strong for my stomach. Also, I prefer to eat it at dinner than at breakfast... Something for you to try: tempeh it is a south-east asian fermented soya bean. you can get it in the markets!

From SG and love natto. I buy in bulk from Meidi Ya whenever I visit as they have a wide selection to choose from.
You should hit up places like Fish Mart Sakuraya or J-mart the next time you want to get natto as they actually sell natto at around $2.80 for a pack of 3 (albeit not okame natto). Also, Japanese veggies have actually gotten a lot more affordable as compared to the past as a bunch of veggie could go for as high as $10 at Isetan.

Actually natto feels very similar to Indonesian Tempeh, both fermented soya bean, it is very common food from Indian stall That is like a slab of natto fried in oil. Usually it is better taste to stir fry Tempeh in chilli sauce. Singaporean Chinese have habit of eating porridge with fermented foods like Fermented spicy black soya bean, fried with tofu or minced meat. Fermented tofu, salted duck egg, century egg with vinegar ginger, olive vegetables. Some feels a bit like Japanese pickled vegetables. The mixing in egg and spring onion really feels like dropping the mixture into frying pan And it will be a omelette that kind of resembles carrot cake dish.
