According to information supplied by Wouxun, this mobile radio requires a power supply of 20 amps at 13.8 volts. But, included in equipment that comes with the radio, is a cigarette lighter plug. A 10 amp 12 volt plug. Will the radio overload the 12 volt plug, or will the radio just operate at a lower wattage?

Sadly that's because Citizens Band is Amplitude Modulated (AM) and requires a 5 watt audio amplifier to modulate the 5 watt AM signal. That PA switch on your CB simply moves the connection of the audio amp from the transmitter to the speaker output jack. GMRS radios are Frequency Modulated and thus have no need for a powerful audio amplifier circut.

Hello Randy. I wonder if you would answer a question for me. I purchased a KG-XS 20G+ recently. I have a surecom swr meter and a 50w dummy load. I am unable to duplicate the 25 watt power output you showed. Trying to figure out why. Any suggestions. Im using it in the truck with engine running so proper voltage input is being used. Thanks!

Make sure you're transmitting on high-power and make sure you are using a short cable from the radio to the power meter. The radio is only supposed to output UP TO 20W, so anything in the 15W-20W range is to be expected.

I am conparing this radio to a btech 50v2 and trying to reach a repeater 30 plus miles away. Truth is i like the way the xs20 works over the btech. But i have been told i sound better through the repeater on the btech. Yesturday i was told u sounded perfectly clear through same repeater on the xs 20. I think location has more to do with things than power. What do you think.? Love your radio tests. I had to go buy the same gadgets to test and im glad i did. I discovered the first nagoya 200c antenna i had was giving me a horrible swr! . I have learned all knowledge from your videos. Thank you!. Keep up the good work!.

I have also tried out the small btech20 watt unit which was great except for the low output. Also tried a radioddity db25. That worked well. Was loud and easy to see display. Only issue was microphone was junk! It felt like i was going to crush it every time i handled it. !!

Depending on the vehicle, the 12V plug turns on/off with the key. If you have multiple 12V plugs, chances are that one of them is switch powered and not constantly hot.

at first I was confused then I reread my question and it is indeed poorly written. Then I laughed because its exactly what my buddy would have said. So to clarify, its not possible to expand the bands on this model. I was looking for a better version of the baofeng 50 watt mobile. Sadly, I returned my new rig (my Xmas present from wife and kids!) after a few days because it kept shutting down when operating at 20 watts. The radio got very hot, very fast. Ran as base into commercial J-pole with 13.8 v 30 amp power supply. Like receiving lump of coal for Xmas. Boo hoo.
