Jimmy Barnes is the guy you mentioned with the crazy range. F2-B5, basically four octaves and he belts them with vibrato and soul like few on this earth are capable of!! He puts 200% into every performance and what I love most about Jimmy and Cold Chisel is they sung to the people, for the people. Their songs are about the Aussie battler, the working class, the veteran.. relatable content with very clever lyrics and twists on the traditional songwriting verse/chorus form. Don Walker on keyboards is the bands genius, but they can all sing and write songs.

Mossy comes across as disciplined and serious, but damn if he didn’t keep Jimmy on track. Love these guys, seen them both live separately over the years and they are part of who I am. Welcome to Jimmy's world. Wild Thing was from their last concert before they broke up in '83, When the War is Over was performed when they reunited after '97. Jimmy Barnes is the lead singer, the ultimate Wild Thing before he gave up the booze and what not. Ian Moss on the guitar and vocals was always silky smooth. Many, many hits from the band and solo careers of both, Jimmy is still performing to this day, he has gone soul, blues and as ever is brilliant still.

John Farnham also has a great version of When the War is Over (live). It was written by Chisel's drummer Steve Prestwich who sadly passed about 12 years ago from brain cancer.
@kathyconway5327
@kathyconway5327 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate that Farnham is a superb singer, maybe the best singer and that he totally appreciated this song … but as he performed best when live he really needed music fans rather than Farnsey fans. He told them he wanted to slow it down a bit bit but they all went nuts like they do and the gravity of the song was lost. The gift of Chisels song is that they were able to express the lament with one voice and the anger with another. And that makes it a great song.

Jimmy banes and cold chisel were around for many years. He battled addiction and this is seen in the second video he truly is 'off his chops'. However, what i like about Jimmy as a human being, is that it doesn't matter where he is performing (and he used to to road trips into he remote areas), he would put his all into it, whether he was performing for a few hundred or a few thousand. i went to a concert with him at a little town in the Pilbara in 1989 (i think? maybe early 1990). really laid back - take your picnic chairs and your eskie with grog and just watch them perform. he definitely moves into the crowd.

There are a heap of great Chisel songs. My favourites, Flametrees, Forever Now, and then all the usuals, Khe Sanh, When The war is over, Bow River, Cheap Wine, no sense, Breakfast at Sweethearts, and Ita - although you have to be an Australian of a certain age to have any idea what Ita is all about. ps if you listen to Flametrees, a flametree is a native tree that usually flowers around christmas and they are all red. As a result - flametrees. Country road sides, fields, and forests are lined with them in summer. By the way, Chisel's live performances were wild and often got completely out of control. They were famous for that. When they called it a day they really did it with a bang.

Here's his daughter in the trials on the voice, with Keith Urban cutting sick on the guitar, then Jimmy bounces out and closes the song, unfortunately Mahalia didn't win (she was 'robbed!") :D.. but its a great clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mn3HfYWmpp6NeKs

Someone needs to organise two more Chisel songs as another request. Maybe Saturday Night (official video) and Goodbye (Astrid, Goodbye) live?

Nice and honest reaction as always 🫠 Do you know Entheos? They're so talented and Chaney's voice is overwhelming... Actually it's a tech-death band so she dosen't really sing (just a little bit) which maybe you don't prefer so much I think, but who knows 🙂 Anyway I love them♥️ the whole new album is so listenable for everyone. Have a nice day!

He was referring to the previous reaction he did of the 2003 live version of Bow River. So yes, The War is Over version he reacted to was from the same concert.

Did you see the crowd ? No third worlders ie True, Aussies before the traitors started destroying our nation. This is the Australia I grew up in, I no longer recognise my own nation. Bitter, sweet memories ! By the way, the main singer is called Jimmy Barnes, you should check out the barnstorming album it’s one of the albums of my youth - 50yr old true Aussie.

Jimmy Barnes turned down the offer to be Van Halen's lead singer...wanted to do his own thing.
