My sister got married in December, The Old Smithy van turned up & made fish & chips & the usual to order for the guests & I was bowled over. Best I have ever had. Ingenious idea, 10/10 I gave them. Like you though I anticipated the peas would need salt and also from my years spent living in Carlisle - I always have vinegar in my peas now. Makes them their very best. Great vlog Gareth. I had no idea that Furness was so scenic. And those are the best fish and chips I've seen for a *very* long time. I think you need to show more of Barrow and Furness. You'll have the tourists abandoning the Lakes and flocking there.

I think I'm going to start a Fish & Chip Friday tradition of my own - and another vote for mint sauce in the mushy peas. I'm not sure why but sneaking the tray into the car under the neighbours noses really made me laugh - the idea you're trying to keep all this secret from them just set me off😅😂🤣 A great end to the week!

great video! i live round the corner from the smithy at holbeck and i've been frequenting the place on and off for about 50 years! no kidding, i remember a bloke called clem from scotland who ran it in the 70's, always great fish and chips from there, haven't been in for a while though, in fact i haven't had fish and chips for ages, good lad runs it now and he's really branched out with his bistro operation so good luck to him, always massive queues whenever i go! they're popular though so there you go! glad you enjoyed them, next time i have them from the smithy i'll phone up for free delivery despite being within walking distance, apparently its free delivery to residents of holbeck and roose, i'm a lazy sod but what the heck! cheers pal

Hi Gareth, now & again I get fish, chips & a Wally for our local fish & chip shop, put far to much salt & vinegar on them and don’t let them close the box, I then sit on the wall near buy & eat them even if it’s cold etc. they taste different but like they did when I was a lad when fish & chips was a cheap dinner!!!

Hi Gareth from Spain. We were out of chips so, yesterday, since She Who Must Be Obeyed was going to a nearby town to teach in the afternoon, I suggested that she call in a shop there and see if they had frozen chips. My 92 year old mother in law piped up - "fish and chips!" So today (we have some of those fish steaks similar to the Aldi ones in the freezer) we had fish and chips. Those mushy peas look really anæmic but the fish and chips look great. I'm jealous. Mushy peas are a real con - they came about because somebody was once reconstituting some dried marrowfat peas and left them cooking too long and they turned to mush. Not wanting to lose the value of them 'mushy peas' were invented as a side dish.

Love fish and chips especially Haddock. They look so good. Here on Gran Canaria we can not get Haddock or Cod. Just a local white fish but seems tasteless. Last time I had fish and chips in the UK was over 15 years ago and think it was only £4.95 for Haddock and chips. Seems so expensive now. It use to be a cheap meal but seems to be luxury priced now. 😮

I love crispy batter. The chippy near to where I live well, its 8 miles away, they do a potato fritter, its huge they charge 60p for it but if you can't afford a fish and love batter then its a great option. That looked lovely, glad you enjoyed it. 🙋‍♀🙋‍♀🙋‍♀🙋‍♀

I don't sneak out when I carry my dinner plate, knife and fork to the car. The neighbours might think, ooh look! The OAP is off to the Legion again. Couldn't care less what the neighbours think. By the way, if you place the knife and fork on the plate and wrap with cling film, this stops the cutlery rattling while I'm driving.

That fish and chips was spot on. Haddock is my favorite, it's £6.95 for the Haddock £2.55 for chips, and small mushy peas or curry sauce £1.30 at my local chippy. It looks just like you're and is cooked to order, we have ours delivered, and it's usually piping hot to. Enjoy Gareth.

Just so much reminds me of yesterday. My local fish and chip shop in the Link reopened last week and I just had to give it a try. Just like you the fish was cooked fresh and so good. The chips were great. But since we are down south its cod and no mushy peas. Great to share the taste sensation with you-good fish and chips are so difficult to better. Cheers
