Brad, why did you feel you had to go? My god. Your voice brings this grown man to tears. The song is a mans anthem of not being able to live up to Your partners expectations of you Miss u Brad. Love Boston

You couldn't go wrong with any song off Boston's first two albums. This is classic Boston -- no introduction needed and so damn good!! Great song, selection and reaction -- thank you, Rob and Harri!

Boston is simply one of the greatest rock and roll band. Love these guys. Saw them 7 times

Brad Delp had arguably the best male rock voice ever with a range unmatched by many. All tracks off their first two albums stand on their own and you can just pick anyone and you will not be disappointed. However, this is my favorite Boston song of all. It is an extremely sad song especially as he realizes he will never be able to live up to his girlfriend's "idealized" version of who he is and the disappointment she will undoubtedly experience when she discovers that reality.

Thanks for doing this one. It has very special meaning to me while sitting for 3 weeks and 1 day with my 29 year old daughter in hospice care until she passed away on March 9, 2023. Ironically, Boston’s singer, Brad Delp, took his own life on the same day, March 9, but in 2007.

@@dougbodenhamer9391 thank you. My life just gets better every day. 🙄 My wife and I had our first date on her 16th Birthday in 1982. On August 9, 2024, she passed away from a catastrophic stroke and really was gone in an instant. 😞 She was just 58. I lost 1/2 my family in the past 17 months. I’m the oldest. I’m not supposed to live to bury my 29 year old daughter and my younger wife. 😢 My daughter’s passing was a Blessing as she suffered for 5 years. My wife was just completely out of the blue and totally unexpected. It’s hard to believe it still. She gave me everything that matters to me in life. Our kids of course, but if we both would’ve lived to 100, and I were Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk COMBINED, I could not repay her for what she has given to me. Her love was priceless. 🙂❤️💔

Thank you Rob & Harri, this one was a real treat! You reaction is right on IMO, because every girl wants a knight in shinning armor, makes it hard for any man to live up to...

I came from the same area north of Boston that all these guys did (except Tom). Pretty much everyone in that music community knew everyone else. They played in a lot of different bands and with a lot of different people as well as somtimes with one or two the others. I met them all but was closest to Sibby. We played a lot of the same bars and clubs, though being a solo performer I didn’t play the the large dance clubs they they did. I also managed a popular local band which happened to be Sibby's favorite band. One of the guitarists was his best friend from childhood, the other had been roomates with him, and the bass player also had been in bands with him. Of course we were all thrilled when they hit it big with Boston. They would all still occassionally show up at our gigs (except Tom who didn’t actually hang out with them often) and sit in with the band, much to the surprise and delight of the crowds. I sure do miss those days!

What a great ballad, always my favorite group growing up. Their first 2 albums are practically greatest hits albums.

The first album was created in a basement of an apartment building by Tom Scholz who wrote it, produced it, mixed it and played almost all the instruments. And Brad Delp was the singer.

Historically speaking "Goodbye To Love" from the Carpenters was the first power ballad. This is where the Richard and Karen infused a fuzz rock guitar solo into the track. Pissed off the fans of their traditional mellow sound..but the rest of us in the rock community were amazed. It was a huge step.

I've always felt this song has the most epic ending I've ever heard. It builds, and builds, and builds, and finally comes in with that huge pipe organ at the end and takes it up to it's absolute maximum level, then it just drops you off a cliff and comes full circle, ending the song how it started, with a soft piano. Absolute brilliance.

Oh brings back college memories I listened to those first two albums so many times. I was in a relationship at the time where I fit the person in the in the song to a T. Very frustrating but in the end it was better to break up and stay as friends then to stay broken hearted and not able to meet expectations. RIP Brad.

Pfft. Not better than any of the cuts on their debut album. In fact, I was overall pretty disappointed with their second release. I think they were forced to do it by the record label by contract. :-/ Could be wrong.

@livenhfree one of their best means out of all of their songs. I'm probably in agreement with you as far as the second album. It was slightly disappointing and not as good as the first one, but there are some good moments on it.
