I think the fact that the $600 model that gets 20 miles of range (and cells that are rated for way more cycles ) is something that should be mentioned. Most people with the Boosted XR are still only getting around 10 miles in real world (non-eco) riding. Also a good amount of people don't need blistering acceleration and prefer a smooth easy to ride acceleration curve. There's definitely a market for both, but it shouldn't be completely shut down for less acceleration, especially as most people would take the range and speed (double the range is no joke), especially at 1/2 the price. There are also other advantages such as less noise and less drivetrain friction that lets you push the board when it's dead. Unless you are in the city and need that acceleration to deal with traffic (or just Love hard acceleration) a board like the 2S offers a lot of real world advantages over Boosted for a fraction of the price. It gets even better if you deck swap it. Not saying there isn't a reason to buy a Boosted, but the competition is heating up.

Captain Clutch Thanks for pointing this out. We agree that the optional Sanyo battery could do great things for some commuters, and it would have been very nice to try out. That said, while the WowGo's control system is awesomely smooth, we don't like the implication that the board's lack of torque is a natural consequence of this feature. You can get the same mellow acceleration easily with the Boosted by going a little lighter on the throttle because power and 'smoothness' really aren't mutually exclusive with a quality control interface. Also, while it's definitely a matter of preference, we see the Boosted's satisfying high-pitched scream as a feature more than a flaw. It makes acceleration more thrilling, and alerts pedestrians to the rider's presence, which is really nice when riding on sidewalks.

SkateMetric Good response! I definitely hear that some riders want that boosted acceleration and that it is definitely user preference. I'm probably an outlier with wanting a nice slow acceleration curve. I'm all about carving and cruising and want it to feel like snowboarding. My Boosted always felt too aggressive on the top end mode and during carving I could accident get tossed if I tapped the throttle a bit too hard mid turn. I'd like to see custom curve options in the future with the app. Either way it's a good time to buy a board and I hope the competition only gets better so Boosted has to step it up even more (lowering prices would be nice too!).

Captain Clutch that's an interesting perspective. I can definitely see how hubs would offer some really great advantages for no-nonsense skaters who just want something to keep them moving.

So if anyone is looking to buy this board nowadays, today was my first day with this board and I have to say, SUPER impressed! Now first things first shipping for me took exactly 2 weeks from ordering online to it being in my hands. And i think waiting was the hardest part about getting the damn thing. But it was worth it after I rode the board. I live in Georgia, a few miles away from Atlanta, and I needed a board that could handle LONG distances and lots of fucking hills. And for 435$ this board did BEAUTIFULLY!!! I rode it on full charge, top speed for a few hours at least (I was planning on recording my distance but I was having too much fun riding it) never once did the board feel unresponsive or glitchy. Nor did It come across hills it couldn’t pass over. So far my only compliant has to be with the battery and distance. I think the only way to purchase this exact board is with the biggest battery they sell for it. The extra juice makes it completely fucking worth it but at that point the board would probably cost around 500$ which is close enough to buy the newest board they sell. If you’re thinking of buying an electric skateboard for cheap, the Wowgo 2s with the second battery option is probably your best bet. But if you have more money to spend I’d look into buying more higher end boards like the wowgo3 or other 600-900$ boards just because you can. But after looking though EVERY other company and their products, I can safely say you won’t be disappointed with this purchase. 100% worth it.

I feel as if belt driven boards should be placed on long boards like the boosted boards because if your on a long board, your most likely not going ride it around college campus trying to carring the heavy board class to class, instead, if Meepo are going to make electric boards with hub motors, they should focus on putting those motors on shorter decks like 24" ( yes, i know they have a 30" model on the website) where its much more useful and quiet for students going around college campuses and turn their attention to belt driven boards for their long board line up, but thats my 2 cents on the matter. Really enjoyed the video and level of production though!!!!! Keep up the good work!

Thank you for that excellent detailed comparison!! I wish I had found this review BEFORE I bought a Meepo, as your observations are bang-on with my experiences. In the end, the only way I could make my Meepo ridable was to modify the remote with a new control pot and wheel (like the Boosted) instead of the jerky thumb-lever. Found out the Meepo esc is far more capable than the stock remote allows it to be, but still not to be confused with a great ride.

Great presentation and video. Does seems a bit biased toward Boosted to me though.. harsh on Wowgo's lack of torque, while mentioning the additional top speed as a matter of fact instead of a great benefit. For me, living in SoCal, with long flat stretches, I care about smooth cruising speed way more then sudden acceleration for long boarding. Also quieter operation on Wowgo (or any hub motor) is great for me when I'm getting out of my neighborhood. Ability to be used as a kick skateboard when battery runs out, etc..

Good review, I own one and love it. It does struggle up some hills, but I think the range and voltage sag points are not as bad as mentioned. It really is a joy to take around town. I frequently get 8-10 miles in a hilly area. For those that live around flat land, it would really hold it's own against a boosted.

Good analysis, but comparing belt drives with hub motors is always a bit of a touch cookie in my opinion as belts will almost always outperform hubs when it comes to raw torque and instant power.
@skatemetric627
@skatemetric627 6 жыл бұрын
The notion that belt-driven systems provide more torque than direct drive alternatives is actually a common misconception, and you even experience slightly lower latency with hubs. We do much prefer belt-drives because they typically offer a better ride and lower weight, however.
@LiamMartens
@LiamMartens 6 жыл бұрын
I see, fair point then. I was always under the impression belt drives were able to deliver better torque than hub motors which is generally also the information you find on the internet. Though perhaps this is because most boards with belt drives are simply one with higher wattage than the typical hub motor that is shipped around creating the notion that hubs have less torque than belt drives. I suppose if you compare the boosted to something like a raptor it would be a different story perhaps.

That ending :D that was me this week but not so happy outcome.. tested the most budget electric skateboard that you can find on aliexpress.. total shitshow of a board, also died after a weeks use for no apparent reason.. made funny noises from the beginning. 250€ board.. But coming to the WowGo, I recently tested a slightly modified version.. 40KM\h top speed.. with 4 levels of speed adjustment... it was AMAZING.. such a smooth quiet ride, insane torque etc.. getting the same board very soon, will try to find out what mods were on that thing. Prior to these boards I rode a Yuneec EGO 1 for 2000KM over 1 year, through rain and ice, no problems, died a few times to wet circumctances but just needed to unhook the battery for a day or two and worked perfect again until a Taxi drove over it lol.. but didn´t bother to fix that cause it was pretty old already with wheels/trucks needing replacing soon, noisy electronics, battery was 40% of what it used to be and well top speed just 20KM\h was no fun after a while. Other then that, a great quality board to start.

I have the WowGo2s with the 6.4 LG battery. The first 50% of the battery will definitely haul me (95-97Kg) up hills no worries (approx 8-12km range in that first 50%). In fact when the battery is freshly charged I will keep accelerating up a long hill (500m) and it feels great. However, once that voltage sag hits hill climbing sucks, like really slow. So I'd say the battery has more to do with it's hill climb ability than anything. Very tempting to upgrade to the Sanyo, and if (when) I do I imagine hill climbs will be no worries. Just my experience so far.

Comparing a 1500$ board vs 440$ board in super stupid so I would say that the wowg is quote revolutionary at the price point because it offers a reliable entry level electric skateboard, why else would boosted be selling the boosted mini. Thats what you should be comparing it to
@skatemetric627
@skatemetric627 6 жыл бұрын
The V2+ cost $1,200 at the time of this video's creation, not $1500, and the Mini wasn't available. That said, you're missing the point of the comparison if you think the Mini ought to have been the subject. The question is how close the WowGo can come to the product it's very obviously attempting to mimic, and if the quality discrepancy between the two justifies the cost differential... and the 2S is not trying to mimic the Mini; they're very different board styles catering to very different preferences and needs.
6 жыл бұрын
SkateMetric In the video and in the comments you state that the wowgo2s performance in comparison to the boosted board is dissapointing yet I would say for a third of a price it is an amazing achievement and yet you never mentioned the price to performance ratio which you claim you wanted to evaluate and in my opinion the wowgo2s price to performance ratio is much better but of course if you want to get the best you should always go for boosted.... I was wrong to compare wowgo2s to the mini but they also have a short board which maybe you could compare the mini now that it is out ???
@skatemetric627
@skatemetric627 6 жыл бұрын
We said it was disappointing considering the performance of the Meepo 1.5 (a board that, at the time, retailed for the same price). Don't mind our editorializing though; the numbers speak for themselves. The comparison is to aid those with the means to buy either product in deciding if the price difference is justified, but that's a subjective evaluation and not one we can make for our viewers. I will say that, having review many more boards now, I think we were too hard on the WowGo, but I stand by the utility of the Boosted comparison.

Sorry to point this out but the lack of torque isnt due to the ESC its due to the fact that these are cheap hub motors, and the Boosted is using Belt driven motors which are known to put out more torque, look at Evolve if you want even more torque. Unfortunately, the only boards with good torque with hub motors are expensive, the Raptor 2 being the best example of this outpacing an Evolve carbon GT.
@skatemetric627
@skatemetric627 6 жыл бұрын
Mitz Metaxas That's not true. The WowGo's motors produce much more torque per amp than Boosted's or Evolved's, and they have to because they're not run through a reduction gearing system before they reach the wheels. As we can see from the Meepo plots, the motors can handle additional amperage (and the batteries will supply it) if the ESC is programmed to deliver.

Speeds are irrelevant. You do the low speed to learn, then you set it to higher speeds and it stays in that mode forever. This is not the Metroboard, where they have a huge number of levels with different speed and torque curves, where you can choose one that's perfect for your setup.

Thanks for the suggestion and feedback. We'll definitely keep that in mind when planning new videos, but for now, here's the quick summary: -The DIY kit uses the same controller/ESC found in the Meepo 1.5, so it's a bit touchy. -It's belt driven, which we generally prefer, but the lack of a belt-tensioning mechanism is an irritating drawback. -The range is excellent. Bottom line: If you can tolerate the remote/ESC, it has the most impressive specs for the price. Beyond that, you can find detailed performance info at our website (skatemetric.com/index.php/visualize-and-compare).

My board only worked for about 50 rides. Then it stopped working, Wowgo just told me that its my own problem and then ignored any emails. Even when I send them proof they kept telling me to just buy another one. The board was less then 1 year old. More and more flaws came up even when I did the right maintenance. So thanks Wowgo, for the waste of my money!

siiil21 For the WowGo, yes. They're not super expensive though, especially if you know where to look.

In my country anything above 15 mph (25 km/h) is illegal, so why not choose a wowgo board. Rules are there to be broken, heh ;D

any comments on ownboard? Verreal? 🤨
@skatemetric627
@skatemetric627 6 жыл бұрын
Ownboard's longboard is nearly identical to the WowGo 2S. The Verreal V1 appears to use the same ESC as the Meepo, which is disappointing, but its urethanes are swappable.

WOWGO customer service is terrible, they lie about shipping time, expect 3 weeks to a month. Then expect an email saying something is wrong with your address, a bunch of idiots, liars. If your lucky you'll get answered via email, the not so lucky ones are left hoping for an email or some sort of miracle voice telling them when they will receive their board.

@rustler08
@rustler08 6 жыл бұрын
That would be incorrect. The Verreal is practically a scammer company, with a hilariously-overpriced $110+ shipping charge that makes it seem cheap until you realize that it ends up costing only a few dollars less than a Meepo, WowGo 2, or Ownboard.
