I know this doesn’t sound important for surviving for 24 hours but I’d want something to read even if it’s a little pocket Bible to be able to read if it’s during the daylight hours. I wanted to see your 100 liters of water container🙏 Maybe you didn’t feel well enough to slow down a little bit because this is a really important video and it was hard to process so many items so quickly. Maybe it’s just me getting older and I need more time to think about what you are each item is and I was trying to memorize what you were showing us and memorize the brand as well? I know I can go back and watch it again just so I can make sure I don’t miss anything important. Another question on the compass does it have a battery? If you lose your glasses how could you see that small of an instrument? Is there an alternative for somebody that couldn’t see those dials? Thank you Cody for the reminder of how important it is to be prepared for an emergency ! 👍 Please don’t think I was being disrespectful because I hope you know I would never do that intentionally. Go easy on me I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night and I really am older than the bulk of Mr. Wranglerstar’s subscribers and in the 8% of women who watch these kind of videos. It's pricey, but does make excellent survival cord, it can be bought by the yard at a few different parachuting websites, like paragear and a few others. I keep the lighter Spectra 750 around and on several occasions have used it as cordage, it's strong, very thin and of course reliable, we literally trust our lives with it.

By the way, the stove still worked - I love MSR gear. I still have 2 other fuel bottles from that era that work fine. I don't have a "retrieval kit", but something very similar. In whitewater sports, we carry a "pin kit" to rescue a kayak or canoe that has been pinned against a rock.

My original Leatherman, which was my father’s, and which I had recently restored from a pretty well-worn state, was stolen right out of my car in a regular, middle-class neighborhood. I absolutely loved that thing, it was functionally and aesthetically one of the most pleasing objects I have ever used. A good friend of mine tried to do a kindness for me by sending me one of the new mid-tier Leatherman tools, which abruptly broke in multiple places. Makes me genuinely sad to know that I will never see that old tool back in my glove compartment.

Id personally suggest a few other items a pen flare gun. From personal experience my dad was treed by a bear and couldn't signal at night so it's a good idea for nighttime rescue. I would have suggested a small hatchet but the knife and saw well make up for it. A small tarp is wonders it flat packs on the side of the pack and it's great for keeping rain or snow off. And maybe just a mountain house or similar freeze meal just in case you need dinner because that always helps and they last like 4 years.
