Its funny cause for the animators it must have worked out well that most if not all japanese high schools have student uniforms. @@RustedBuddy5192 i think an american high school anime would be very sterile and would likely be the same as any american corny ass coming of age story about high schoolers. it's not inconceivable that they'd just replace school festivals with shit like sports events and prom and shit, especially if it's a genuine japanese production. also i dont think you want a 13 reasons why anime either because that's really the only other direction it feels like such a concept could take. just wouldn't be very anime either, japanese people dont give a shit about foreigners or their culture and have only started to care at the triple A big name level because they think itll get them more western eyes on their shit. their notions of stereotypes are way more entertaining anyways, i happen to like their depictions of westerners as tall blonde dummies that swear all the time
@RustedBuddy519211 ай бұрын
@logandunlap9156 Theres plenty of towns that have town fairs in the mid west and east coast that replace those. Just have it take place in the 2000s/2010s Before Tiktok took away anything interesting about people. Interesting field trips to places, I personally got to visit a prison for a Criminal Justice class. Students hanging out in the woods, the whole club culture...... Ahem... *Square Dancing* . You cant complain about 13 reasons why when you got shows like Death Note, Another, Higurashi, etc. Just takes some creativity taking the prominent arrogance of Americans, especially New York Arrogance, in consideration as opposed to the prominent Japanese social awkwardness. I'm sure a story could be made regarding vigilantism taking real life examples like Phoenix Jones. Theres a lot to be explored.

@@gardenagnostic Perhaps in art style, true, but characters in Lucky Star(both Manga and Anime) referenced and discussed real life quirks of living in Japan at the time, and reacted to and commented on events as they happened in real life during both their runs. The end result is that both Class of 09 and Lucky Star end up being really good period pieces - ironically with the C09 being the more artificial one as it was made to intentionally emulate a past time period, while LS simply tried to capture the spirit of its time and did it so fervently, it ended up dating itself without meaning to. Sure, Lucky Star looked inappropriately cute doing it, but so does Class of 09.

@@gardenagnostic I love Lucky Star because absolutely nothing happens and the girls talk about absolutely nothing. Not even Azumanga Daioh or Asobi Asobase can do that, they need setup and slapstick. Lucky Star is a show that's seriously about nothing at all but the moment, making the meaningless important. The three girls could be replaced by any rando and it wouldn't matter. It's genius. Co09 is goofy fun, but it wouldn't work if you would switch people in and out because the comedy is personality based and the personalities are over the top to make the comedy work in the first place. Change something and you ruin it. I would say that Co09 becomes way more dated than Lucky Star because in the latter it's just people interacting. I would say that Lucky Star is timeless, even.
