Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve lived around the San Gabriel mountains, my entire life, and I never knew that that wreckage was up there. It’s incredible how far the wreckage spread after the impact. What a horrible day for those young men.

Lots of aircraft wreckages in SoCal. I've never seen this one. Thanks for the great video Robert. Don't know if I could have done this hike. God rest their souls.

Thank you! There’s a twist to this story. 22 years before this crash happens, a C-46 USAF plane hit the north slope the same side just about 200-300 yards below. In fact, the wreckage is still there and I’ll do a story of that one too.

Thanks, Andrew. I believe the impact created forest fire but the forest service contained the fire fast enough from spreading.

These engines were too small for this aircraft, the ones I worked on was 4360 cubic inch, these engines in your video were 3350 cubic inch. Good engines but not enough horse power for the aircraft. The 4360 was called the Corn Cob Engine because there were 4 rows of cylinders, 28 cylinders in all making it sort of corn cob looking. I never seen a 3350 engine on a C119, they had 2 rows of cylinders. I enjoyed your video. Jim

Very cool, that yellow paint doesn’t look as old, I’m wondering if someone paints it every few years 🤔

Good observation. The website I checked for additional info was from 2016 I believe and the photo there seems the same as now.
