You know what's great about Keenan? He openly shows his techniques for everyone to see. Good guy Keenan.

It's called the wrecking ball pass due to its ability to wreck balls with one wrong step!

@@cfrancis I thought it was more like doing a roll-out over the person lol

it is pretty wicked concept. I've always been told that using your legs as ''hands'' is a key point in evolving in jiujitsu. This technique basically could be applied to many different games and passes

It's not a new pass, it's been around for decades, but it is a very good one to know. Thank you for the nice break down instructional Keenan!

holy guac I wasn't entering into a debate on it Holy, just advising people who thought it was new. I learnt these passing techniques and variations of them over 5 years ago from my coach who learnt them from his coach who learnt them from the Machado's. It's possible it's coming back into favour now in the competition scene because as Keenan points out, guys are trying to play certain guards now that this stops. As I said, great break down of it, Keenan always shows why he's one of the best.

When you break the grip, transfer it to your other arm. Then take a step . More efficient. This is the Mario Sperry pass from like 1988. Seize that loose arm. Step through to knee on solar plexus.

I'm a 1 stipe white, but I watched this video ONCE, and the first time I tried it, it worked on a BROWN belt. I don't know if he was going easy on me, but he seemed surprised as shit when I landed in side mount. I even stood there for a minute after I pinned his leg because I couldn't remember which side to pass to. He was trapped for sure. GREAT VIDEO.
@samsonmoses774710 жыл бұрын
No. I didn't "hold" him in side control, I "landed" in side control. He was out as soon as I went for the kimura
@letsgoletsgoletsgoletsgoletsgo9 жыл бұрын
most often than not, the brown belt probably felt you did everything techically correct and let you have to pass, its more beneficial for you to let you pass, than him win that roll :)
@samsonmoses77479 жыл бұрын
As soon as I put my weight on his thigh and smashed it to the ground, he didn't have a choice. After that day, when I went for it on him, he always let got of the spider guard with whatever leg I tried to trap, and wiggled it around furiously. I felt like I could've still trapped it, but it was like a fish covered in soap and I wanted to try something different anyway. If he let me have it, it's the only one I got.

The leg drag pass at 4:18 looks like it sets you up perfect to sit on an ankle lock instead of trying to pass or am I missing something there?
@daridp9 жыл бұрын

once you stomp the leg, cant you throw your other leg over and do a knee bar?
@reyg70289 жыл бұрын
+Flipper2425 i think you would be better served if you did the leg drag into an ouside heel hook ,ankle lock or toe hold . Just thinking out loud ,but i think that would be a nice set up to play around with .

Lemme keep this a secret for the time being while some of these guard recoverers (inverters) try n figure out what it is i'm doing. The best guard player at my gym only had me pass his guard once in every 20 atempts so far, i do pass his guard more than that, but he always recovers

Morgothhhh BrunoBJJ This is what is truly beautiful about BJJ! The fact that what works - works, and we will all figure out what works with enough time and practice. I never saw Keenan do this pass, and he started doing it before me, which means that the two of us (and probably many more people out there) have starting using our feet from top [like a standing spiderguard] simply because it is so damn effective.

+Matheus Then your in the wrong sport. Muscles getting munted are all part of the game, if your not doing it to others they're just gonna do it to you and make your life (training life) much harder. Making people uncomfortable is the aim of the game

I love BJJ but I think the names they come up for stuff is really daft - Japanese names in Japanese jujitsu are instructional if translated back to English they are rarely analogies. Still its a case of needs must and who cares about a name right
@brucecharlie86138 жыл бұрын
dauitsone I don't care what language its in as long as its not named after anaolgiers, like "wrecking ball pass" - I mean that name tells you nothing abot the technique at all, but say "shoulder wheel throw" which is a judo move English translation makes a bit more sence
@vinhit2nguyenitbjj8 жыл бұрын
If you practice long enough, you remember what the names mean. I have no idea what a shoulder wheel throw is because I've never used that name. If I did use that name more it will make sense to me, but the English names are made to be memorable.
@live2film138 жыл бұрын
It doesn''t bother me all that much but I can see your point. I think a lot of it is that these moves are so complicated that an english explanatory name would be cumbersome

man with all respect i think that is too hard to maintain that balance with 2 feet on leg .... do the first movent only steping the leg is hard imagine this passing on ankle ....i like cause is an beautiful movement but i think that is not effective to me .... you have giant legs so maybe this makes eazyest sir
@vinhit2nguyenitbjj8 жыл бұрын
How many times have you drilled it?
@sarevokirenicus75248 жыл бұрын
BRadvGames I agree. it's just an option. I really can't see this one being too effective. it leaves you open and imbalanced. on top of that, any decent practitioner will see where you're going with this from a mile away.

this is a high level pass designed for purple belt levels and up certain positions like this require great understandings of base and pressure like active posting ect which is why u see top guys having weird bases standing in matches at times
