So fun fact: Philips Arena (today known as State Farm Arena) in Atlanta was just 9 days old when it hosted this episode of Nitro. It was built on the site of the old Omni Coliseum, which longtime fans will remember as WCW's home venue, more or less; but even though the Omni was built in 1972, so it was just 25 years old when it was demolished, it had a design flaw that rendered it obsolete unusually fast: it was built with weathering steel, which was supposed to deliberately rust over and form a protective seal. But in Atlanta's humid climate, instead the building just never stopped rusting, to the point of holes forming in the structure. And so it was demolished in 1997, with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks playing at Georgia Tech's arena & WCW Nitro utilizing the Georgia Dome for its homecoming episodes for 2 years before Philips Arena opened on September 18, 1999 with an Elton John concert.

No problem on the stats! Here's a few more tidbits I've learned from going over the numbers: -12 of the last 16 Nitros before Bischoff was sent home in '99 had no finish. In that same 16 week time frame, Raw only had 7 and the last 5 weeks before his ousting all had a winner. -Nitro's longest streak of non-finishes (so far) is 8 which happened twice, in 1999 close to the end of Bischoff's first run (May 17 - July 5) and in 1997 during the lead up to Starrcade (Oct 20-Dec 15). -Shockingly, Raw's longest streak of non-finishes I can find was only 4 (Feb 23 - Mar 16, 1998) which only happened once. I'll keep tracking numbers as the show continues and hopefully have more to share later on! As always, keep the good word out on Wrestling Bios because I truly believe this channel and RTW is one of the best wrestling-related things on KZbin!

Honestly I think people are kinda misunderstanding the numbers....15% difference is a pretty damn big gap. Or to put it another way less than half of Nitro main events weren't DQ or countout. Whereas almost two thirds of Raws weren't. That means you are gonna to see them a LOT week to week and often getting them back to back and maybe even a third time in a row on WCW. But Raw will have them more evenly spaced so they don't draw your attention as much. 60% percent of your main events with a "regular" finish is a heckton better than only 45%. Especially with such an important match.
@Klontruppe6 ай бұрын
To be honest, I am not surprised both shows had a metric ton of false finishes. It's the "best" way to deliver PPV-tier matches without ruining PPV buyrates. One of the many things sacrificed in war is dignity, and thus the dignity of the TV main event went out the window.

There's an funny story when it comes to the "This is your life" segment. It's been told several times. Basically, Vince was initially frustrated that the segment was going on for too long. Then the ratings came out. That segment did a 8.4 rating, the highest rated non wrestling segment in WWF. Both Rock & Mick went to Vince and told him about the rating it got & he admitted that they proved him wrong & that they can go on for as long as they like.
