I think if you have seen Bret's "Wrestling with Shadows" you may also notice Bret had an entire creative circle of friends like Pat Patterson. Many wrestlers have said that at that time WCW was in a chaotic state of changes in storylines and direction. Many performers would become lost in the politics. Bret's situation was leaving a place where he had grown and had always known. Then in WCW he joined the younger talents that he knew. Those who he had trained with like Benoit and Malenko. The younger mid-card guys. It's unfortunate but almost obvious he fell into the whirl-wind that became WCW downfall. No one in charge (of WCW) at that time knew how to take the reigns. Those who tried to take charge did it for their own gains.

I don't understand honoring the no-compete clause. If Vince didn't honor his side of the contract doesn't that nullify the whole thing? The situation at WCW made it impossible to do business properly. Hogan wouldn't do business. Nash wouldn't do business. And Goldberg wouldn't do business. Then you have Kevin Sullivan who pushed Benoit because he didn't want to be accused of discriminating on him because he broke up his marriage. Flair gets to run things for a while because he was the only guy Ted Turner knew on the product. What to do with Brett Hart? You have him run through the whole NWO his contract vs the contract of every member. He beats a guy they're out of the company. Maybe give Brett a Stable of his own. Maybe a member of Brett's stable loses and gets thrown out of WCW. Members abandon the NWO rather than risk their contract. Then you finally get to Hogan and Hogan won't tap passes out and retires due to injury from refusing to tap. Belt declared vacant. Brett gets to pick match type and Hogan gets to pick a challenger for Brett. Brett picks I quit match Hogan picks Sting. Rick Flair interfere's for Sting win. Goldberg comes down and declares Sting is Next. Flar and Hart feud. Goldberg wins the belt from Sting. Hart vs Goldberg for the belt. Hart wins and Hogan comes back to claim Hart never made him tap out. DDP is sick of waiting in line so is sting. Sting and DDP for number one contender.

You forgot to mention that in May 1999 (shortly after storyline quitting WCW) Bret was scheduled to face champion Kevin Nash for the WCW world title on the Jay Leno Tonight show but Owen died the night before and the match was cancelled. I remember this cause i used to think that had Owen not died than the Hart-Nash match on Leno would've happened and given WCW the exposure from it to perhaps take over the Monday Night Ratings War and perhaps still be around now.

I was amused when Bret was a heel in WCW. He would overdo it when it came to covering his tracks. More than once, he won like this. Use the old foreign object punch, while the ref is down. Lay down, and put his limp opponent on top of him. The ref comes to, 1 2 kick out. Then his opponent doesn't get up, because he's already out. Then he puts on the sharpshooter. They're limp, so the ref checks their arm. It drops 3 times and Bret wins. To be fair, I think I saw him once put a DDT, or piledriver in between the kick out, and the sharpshooter. But it was funny because not all of that was necessary. What, was his opponent supposed to be knocked out by the kick out? Did he want the ref to think they knocked each other down, and his opponent landed on him unconscious? Or that the sharpshooter, could instantly k o an opponent? He would way overdo it. The ref can't call what he doesn't see. Just hide or toss the object, and go for the pin. Or hell, a sleeper is believable. If you wanna go the arm drop route.
