It's another landmark episode of WCW Nitro this week on Reliving The War. The date is 6.10.96, Nitro is live from Wheeling, WV while the WWF are still showing taped matches on the USA Network from Fayetteville, NC. This would be the very last time the WWF would win in the weekly television ratings until 1998, and this is the beginning of WCW's pure dominance over the WWF.
With only one week to go until The Great American Bash, WCW continue to turn up the heat with the arrival of Scott Hall's "big surprise". Kevin Nash shows up on Nitro, and he's siding with Scott Hall in a quest to take over World Championship Wrestling. This episode of Nitro also includes a WCW Championship match featuring The Giant and Scott Norton, and the Tag Team Championships are also on the line in this week's main event.
Over on the WWF channel things aren't looking so good. The company have been hyping the 1996 King of The Ring during their recent Raw episodes yet the WWF are also lacking the excitement that WCW currently brings. The overall nature of the WWF's shows aren't changing while WCW fires on all cylinders, but the King of the Ring will eventually give us a true Monday Night War game changing superstar.
00:00 - Nitro's unopposed hour
04:48 - Owen Hart vs Yokozuna / The Giant vs Scott Norton
08:45 - Marc Mero vs Skip / Steve Regal vs Billy Kidman
13:14 - Ultimate Warrior's baseball cap
15:02 - Public Enemy vs Nasty Boys
17:51 - The Main Events
25:14 - Kevin Nash shows up on WCW Nitro
27:19 - Final Results

We can't forget the existence of ECW. Them along with the nWo angle birth the attitude era which would start the 3rd boom in the professional wrestling world. We already know what the first 2 were. But yeah, the internet did mess everything up. Ease of access killed the mystery element.

I still can't forgive WCW for totally wasting Scott Norton.

Charisma was almost everything in the mid to late 90's and Norton had almost none. Guy was an absolute beast, though. They definitely could have figured something out for him beyond weekly schmoz run in beat downs with the NWO.

@@mikeabel7577that's why I had hopes when they teamed him with Bagwell. Should have revived the US tag title since the world tag belts were basically inactive.

He should have been US and Tag champion at least

How was he wasted? He was booked as a strong guy, had a decent team with Fire and Ice, was a good nWo enforcer, had a good tag team with Bagwell, was put over as an Arm wrestling champ, and overall just looked like a badass.

@@Smokey1419 in ways I get it, he could of done a little more than just being someone who was an enforcer but alas, it wasn’t as so there. Even I have to admit, they did miss some opportunities for him here especially this match with the Giant. Like that could of been a little bit more exciting than what seemed to be a squash. Alas, he did have a nice little run wrestling wise

I love that this episode is the early days of Davie Boy Smith's chin lock addiction gaining notice before they became a highlight.

It's so freaking crazy how we go from getting people like Skip vs Marc Mero on the midcard, to DX, the Nation of Domination, New Age Outlaws, Kane, Shamrock, etc. all in the matter of a year.

Man I love this series as a guy who was born in 2002 I was not around to see WCW or the attitude era do battle and watching this series is almost like experiencing the Monday Night War firsthand so a million thanks for this.

Agreed! I was born in 2000, and this series is great for our generation of fans that didn't grow up with it, cause we get to see it why it's so revered by people.

Man, I forgot that Undertaker could move like that at one point. Davey Boy Smith too, it's sometimes hard to remember he could make his stuff look great sometimes, but I always felt like he was never consistent, like he could really nail something now and again but the rest of the time it was all chinlocks, forearms, punches and clotheslines. I feel like half of the matches I ever saw as a kid were 50% chinlocks and other rest holds in general though.

This series is great because I couldn't watch both shows back then. I was a WCW guy and my older bro was a WWF guy, so we had to take turns. So we both missed matches on both shows.

At the time I saw it, I was in total shock to see Nash there and clearly he sounded so much better getting to be himself, than how th WWE made him when he was the babyface champion. The nwo angle being as groundbreaking as it was in 96 would've been nice if it was brought back during the 2001 invasion. Which to me is partly why the WWF/WCW invasion flopped along with other thing.
