Many consider 1997 to be the breakout year for DDP in WCW. Diamond Dallas Page would get involved in a rivalry with Macho Man Randy Savage that won both men the PWI feud of the year, spanning across multiple pay per views including Spring Stampede 97, The Great American Bash 97 and the 1997 Halloween Havoc event.
The year started off with a "BANG" for Dallas when he refused to join the nWo, dropping Scott Hall with a Diamond Cutter inside the New Orleans Superdome. From this point on DDP would rise up the ranks in WCW, becoming one of the company's most celebrated superstars.

@@MrCt40 Watching Randy savage put over DDP is pretty legendary. That video on here is definitely worth a watch. Randy savage had a lot of class coming to DDP and asking them how you wanted to do it. And then the whole story line with him joining the NWO just 2 defy all of them in the ring, gold. DDP was one of my favorites.

Like Savage vs DDP was just the more adult version of the Savage vs Flair 1992 angle (which worked tremendously more than this DDP angle because even as a heel, no one can believe Elizabeth as a heel).
