Who would have thought a channel that is covering some childhood nostalgia would help me through a really hard week? I've been watching for several years now, and every episode of RtW is impeccable. As I said in a previous video, I was in the hospital during this week following spinal fusion surgery. I was watching Heat and tried to convince my nurse to order this PPV. The next day, I used the internet in their library and glad I missed it. At least I got to see the Raw after from home. This month in wrestling is so vivid in my memory after all these years. It was therapeutic for me. ESPECIALLY when Austin won the WWE title back the night after. I got to watch the next three PPVs with my friends, it helped take my mind off the pain. Thanks for the trip!

I love Shamrock, but he arrived at the absolute worst time. He shows up two years earlier and he takes advantage of a fallow main event scene. He shows up two years later and MMA is a little more mainstream and he has excellent dance partners in Benoit, Angle, etc.

IIRC they did soft announce it on TV, not sure if it was on Raw or Heat but I think it was a small throwaway line like "Bossman obviously back in Vinces good books after that stunt he pulled" That's what I've heard at least, if it is on Raw it'll be interesting to see if it's picked up in next weeks upload.

"It's me, Austin!" as iconic as it is, was absolutely the shark jumping moment. as Corny has said about the Attitude Era, how do you follow any of this? you've booked yourself into a corner. personally, I'd have pushed Blackman, using his participation here as a jumping point, make him turn on Vince in a week, and keep the heat on him and Austin, once Austin got the title back. pushing Shane and Vince again here is no different than Bischoff and Russo constantly putting themselves over.

Very amusing how WCW & WWF both had "mystery assailant" storylines at the same time that were never truly, 100% answered. WCW had "Who drove the White Hummer?!" & WWF had "Who pulled up the briefcase at KOTR '99?!", and while both had likely answers (Hulk Hogan & Big Boss Man, respectively) neither promotion ever bit the bullet & gave a definitive finale. Just such a weird thing to do from both sides.

I heard Shane was actually not going to compete, but when they realized that Texas and Country Music go together, they managed to convince Blackman to follow the original script and put Shane back in, so Austin wouldnt of ended up a stain on the ring mat. They probably realized that, based on Ken's injuries. Anyone else woildve died, but since he lived but had internal injuries, Austin was in jeopardy if Blackman did that match. Totally true story!

I don't know if this is true but Chyna did break 2 records this night. 1 she became the 1st ever female to enter The King Of The Ring and 2 Her match with Road Dogg was the longest wrestling match a Female Wrestler had in North America for at least 20 years until the NXT Era or something like that If that is true *and considering what else she does this year* how can anyone not say 1999 was Chyna best year knocking down all these records for female Wrestlers as a whole

They were really trying to make Billy Gunn into a big star at this time. I remember the build to the KOTR tournament on how they were talking about how important winning KOTR was often showcasing Austin's '96 KOTR win as an example. Billy Gunn's push however went nowhere. After a disastrous feud with the Rock he'd get put back into tag team wrestling reunited with the Road Dogg and reforming the New Age Outlaws.

Fully agree a KOTR win for Chyna would have been a great launching pad for her as a singles performer in men’s competition. I am glad Chyna still got her singles push and ended up winning the IC title twice. As for Billy Gunn I think he was the type of mid card talent that could have benefited from a KOTR win. But it didn’t really make much of a difference for Billy Gunn who was never able to get past credible mid card status as a singles performer. I still wish they never got rid of the KOTR tournament. It was always a good launching pad for mid card talent. Although there were a few duds (Mabel, Ken Shamrock and Billy Gunn) but the following 3 KOTR winners were Kurt Angle, Edge and Brock Lesnar all three were helped by winning the KOTR. The previous two winners in 1997 and 1996 were HHH and Austin both benefited from the win.

It was supposed to be The Big Boss Man. He was 'fired' from the Corporate Ministry after he lost to Austin the week before KOTR so he wasn't officially part of the stable anymore and therefore could get involved in the match as it wasn't against the rules. He returned on RAW the night after the pay-per-view with his old theme and everyone thought he'd turned face and gone old school. But he came down to the ring, said "I love you guys" and they accepted him back into the Corporate Ministry.

I'm not saying it would be a good match but I'm shocked they didn't have a Road Dogg vs Billy Gunn final.

Vince and Shane did work good in the main event I laughed several times at the spots with Stone Cold going back and forth on them.

Funny how when I was 12 during the attitude era, every WWF show including this PPV was a 10/10 in my book. Nowadays with more mature and analytic eyes watching everything again, makes me thankful that I was a young kid during that time as it let me enjoy the product for what it was. My older self would have probably consider this era drag.

I was convinced a WCW guy was gonna debut, right up to the copyright notice I held hope. The 2 on 1 ladder, corporate team not allowed at ringside, Shane hurt, even the rising of the case, it was perfectly set up for an arrival to the company and a feud with stone cold.

When you compare the big 5 WWF PPV’S from 1998 to 1999 it’s like night & day . 98 will always be my favourite year in WWF history .
